Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger (獣電戦隊キョウリュウジャー Jūden Sentai Kyōryūjā), is of the 37th entry in the Super Sentai series.

It replaced Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters and joined Kamen Rider WizardIcon-crosswiki as part of the Super Hero Time block on TV Asahi. On October 6, 2013, it was joined by Kamen Rider GaimIcon-crosswiki one week after Wizard's finale. On February 16, 2014 it was replaced by Ressha Sentai ToQger as part of the Super Hero Time block.

Kyoryuger's footage is used to create the American adaption, Power Rangers Dino Charge and Power Rangers Dino Super Charge (the 22nd and 23rd seasons of the Power Rangers franchise).

Kyoryuger was also dubbed in South Korea as Power Rangers Dino Force (파워레인저 다이노포스 Paworeinjeo Dainoposeu), which in turn spawned a Korean-made sequel season, Power Rangers Dino Force Brave.

The average ratings of the series was 3.9%.

Use in Power Rangers[]

After the finale of Power Rangers Super Megaforce, Saban announced an adaptation of Kyoryuger as Power Rangers Dino Charge and Power Rangers Dino Super Charge, which skips over Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters. An early teaser trailer for Dino Charge utilized footage from Kamen Rider × Super Sentai × Space Sheriff: Super Hero Taisen ZIcon-crosswiki.

Footage and rights of Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger: Gaburincho of Music was not given to Saban in time, resulting in the film's elements such as Deathryuger not being adapted for Dino Super Charge. Ferocious Knight D and Zyudenryu Tobaspino are exceptions, who appeared in an Episode 39 Kyoryuger and were adapted in Dino Super Charge as Badussa and the Spino Zord respectively. With similar reasons as the summer film, Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger vs. Go-Busters: Dinosaur Great Battle! Farewell, Eternal Friends was not licensed in time and was left un-adapted until almost five years later with the Power Rangers Beast Morphers episodes Finders Keepers, Making Bad and Grid Connection.

Deathryuger would later be adapted as the Dark Ranger for the Dino Charge character Heckyl in the Boom! Studios comics continuity starting with MMPR Issue #31. Heckyl would later transform into the Dark Ranger in the Power Rangers Cosmic Fury episode Operation Seasoning, though this version utilizes the helmet belonging to Kyoryu Navy, who originally debuted in Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger Returns: 100 YEARS AFTER.

Synopsis[]

"Dinosaurs plus humans. Crossing over billions of years to protect the world, History's strongest brave team has now appeared! You'll be surprised when you hear!"

Long ago, in the time of the dinosaurs, the Earth was invaded by an alien menace called Dark Species Deboth, the leader of an invasion army. On the verge of extinction, some of the dinosaurs are transformed into Zyudenryu and seal Deboth and his forces in ice.

Now, in the modern world, the Deboth Army have thawed and now intend to commence the mass extinction of humanity while thawing their still frozen leader. But having prepared for it, Wise God Torin gathers the only people capable of helping the Zyudenryu stop the Deboth Army: "the People of the Great and Mighty Lizards" (強き竜の者 Tsuyoki Ryū no Mono), which has been shortened to "Kyoryugers" (キョウリュウジャー（強・竜・者） Kyōryūjā (Kyō・Ryū・Sha)).

The Ten Great Zyudenryu & Zyudenryu Tobaspino

During the Deboth Army's centuries-long attack, twenty four prehistoric animals obtained the power to fight the invaders. Ten of them were the dinosaurs that were modified to become the Ten Great Zyudenryu (十大獣電竜 Jūdai Jūdenryū) while thirteen were modified to become the Guardians. However, in the aftermath of the Army's defeat, the Guardians were killed and half of the Ten Great Zyudenryu (Pteragordon, Ankydon, Bunpachy, Plezuon, and Bragigas) were lost, while the remaining members stood watch, should the Deboth Army return.

The Guardians[]

Stymero, Allomerus, and Deinochaser before they were killed.

The Guardians (ガーディアンズ Gādianzu) are lesser Zyudenryu who supported the Ten Great Zyudenryu during their fight against the Deboth Army. In a flashback from Torin, several forms of the Guardians were shown before they were killed by Gadoma and their spiritual forms was saved by Bragigas' tears. With their spiritual forms turned into small amber stones, their spirits continue to aid the Kyoryugers as part of their arsenal.

The fossilized remains of the thirteen Guardians, the Secret Stones, were revealed to be the key to obtain Bragigas.

The episodes in this Sentai season are called "Braves" (ブレイブ Bureibu) with the numberings in Japanese, and the titles are written in a combination of hiragana and katakana formatting, much in the same vein of Engine Sentai Go-Onger, which combined kanji and katakana formatting.

The first word in the episode title is a one word exclamation, similar in style to titles of Gorenger, J.A.K.Q., and Megaranger.

  • This is the first Sentai series to have warriors based off Auxiliary Mecha, a concept introduced by Power Rangers Jungle Fury and the Bandai America toy line.
    • This was subtly referenced by having two of the Auxiliary Rangers being called "Spirit Rangers".
  • The name "Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger" is almost a perfect anagram of the name of an earlier season Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger.
  • As of 2016, With an average rating of 3.9%, Kyoryuger had the third-worst viewing figures in the history of the Super Sentai franchise, after Ressha Sentai Toqger at 3.8% and Shuriken Sentai Ninninger with 3.6%. [2]
    • This continues the trend of declining numbers of average viewer's rate in Super Sentai series which has been occurring since GoGo Sentai Boukenger.
    • Unlike the latter two, however, it had very high toy sales which made the series financially successful.
  • Kyoryuger's Korean dub was called Power Rangers Dino Force. Due to High Toy Sales, it would eventually earn a sequel in Power Rangers Dino Force Brave, to bide enough time to skip Shuriken Sentai Ninninger

  • This is the first season to have the Red-Blue-Pink-Green-Black main team formation, the next being Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger, which also happened to have a Gold 6th ranger with Blue accents.
