Wolfgang was a Cerberus/wolf-based Sporix Beast and the seventh or eighth Sporix Beast from the Sporix Army to awaken. He was one of the two main antagonists in "Unexpected Guest" and one of the four secondary antagonists of "Old Foes", both from the first season of Power Rangers Dino Fury.
History[]
Past[]
Over 65 million years ago, Wolfgang and the other Sporix Beasts invaded Rafkon, the home planet of Zayto. Though he and his fellow Knights of Rafkon fought hard, the Sporix ravaged Rafkon and removed all traces of life from the planet. The Sporix then turned their attention to Earth but Zayto and the remaining Knights had managed to escape Rafkon and tracked the Sporix Beasts to Earth where they engaged them in battle with the help of the dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. Despite the Knights initially having the upper-hand against the Sporix, most of them grew enough in power over time to grow giant and force the Knights of Rafkon and their dinosaur allies to retreat. When all seemed lost however, the Morphin Masters arrived and bestowed the Morphin Grid's powers to Zayto and his followers, as the first Ancient Dino Fury Rangers which gave them the advantage they need to defeat the Sporix Beasts and seal them inside of their eggs.
Dino Fury[]

Sometime after he escaped, Wolfgang hatches off screen and allies with Void Knight without setting off the Ranger Hotline. Realizing his special ability, Void Knight decides to use him to neutralize the Rangers' Megazord by having another Sporix Beast distract them. After witnessing the Rangers defeat Doomsnake with the Dino Fury Megazord Blade Formation, Void Knight orders Wolfgang to "mark his territory" and he does this by emitting a powerful howl that disassembles the entire Megazord. After learning about the Ninja Nexus Prism from Mucus, Wolfgang teleports outside of BuzzBlast and confronts Mick Kanic by ordering him to come with him or else. However, Mick proves to be difficult for Wolfgang to capture as he transforms into a toy car and runs circles around him. The Rangers confront Wolfgang and morph but he proves to be a challenge, even using his howl to peel off the Boost Key armor that Amelia and Izzy summon. The fight ends when the Rangers teleport Mick back to Dinohenge and Wolfgang returns to Area 62 empty handed, apologizing to Void Knight in a begging position worrying about what punishment the Knight has in store for him. Luckily for him, Boomtower offers his services to grab the Prism for Void Knight and due to the latter's condition, the robotic general requests Wolfgang to serve as his back-up.
Wolfgang later accompanies Boomtower in his search for the Nexus Prism and finds it along with the Rangers at the waterfront. However, they cannot claim the Prism as it flies into the sea thus leaving them to face the Rangers. After Boomtower corners the Rangers below a cliff, he orders Wolfgang to use his howl to break the cliff apart and have it crash down onto the Rangers. Just before Wolfgang can completely destroy the cliff, Mick arrives and tosses a No-Howl Drop into his throat, making his voice shrill and preventing him from using his howl. With no other choice, Wolfgang grows giant sized and is followed by Boomtower but Wolfgang is not seen for a while after. When the Rangers overwhelm Boomtower with the Dino Fury Megazord Warrior Formation, Mucus orders Wolfgang to help out. Wolfgang tries to jump from behind but is impaled by the Megazord's lance and mortally wounded, slipping off of it before faceplanting and exploding. He reverts back into his Sporix Cell form which Mucus easily claims with a baseball glove, lamenting on how he would have sung at her birthday party and later delivers it to Void Knight, who places it into his machine. Reaghoul demonstrates his revival powers by reviving Wolfgang alongside Brineblast as remnant copies. Upon being being revived, Wolfgang gets into a brief argument with Brineblast after the former comments on something smelling fishy to which Brineblast retorts back with him being house-trained before being given to Reaghoul and Lord Zedd to use in a plan to capture all of the Rangers. He teleports in with Zedd and Reaghoul behind the morphed Rangers after Brineblast's distraction as Zedd throws the sleepy cuffs on the Rangers. Upon Reaghoul realizing Ollie was missing and needing him, he commands Brineblast and Wolfgang to search the woods for him and bring him back to which they obey as they venture off to find him. Wolfgang would use his enhanced smell to pick up Ollie's scent and finds him leading Brineblast to them. He foreshadows to Ollie that his friends won't respond back to him. They confront Ollie before he morphs and comments on how they have a score to settle with Ollie before he uses his sonic howl on him, missing him but breaking apart the skeleton decoration. Ollie remembers his sonic howl abilities but the weakness as well so Solon throws a No-Howl drop which goes into Wolfgang's throat again and makes his voice high pitched once again, ending his sonic howl. With Wolfgang's sonic howl rendered useless, he is urged on by Brineblast to attack Ollie to which he does. Whilst they hold their own against Ollie, they weren't able to defeat him as Ollie destroys Wolfgang first with some slashes. However, thanks to Reaghoul's ability, he and Brineblast are revived once again with Wolfgang regenerating first. Ollie uses the Spin Key on Brineblast whilst Wolfgang is annoyed the Blue Ranger is spreading Brineblast's fish smell everywhere before his partner is thrown against him. Unfortunately for Wolfgang, when Ollie uses the Elasto Key Slash, the slash goes through Brineblast and him, destroying the two again.
Reaghoul revives him and Brineblast for a third time at Dinohenge, intending for Ollie to fight the four of them and be defeated. He laughs manically alongside his partner Brineblast, Reaghoul, and Zedd at Ollie being doomed fighting them all. He waits at Dinohenge for Ollie and goes to confront him with Zedd and Brineblast. However this does not happen as Ollie's Dino Dagger trick breaks Zedd's Compliance Collar which has him fuming in anger and going against Reaghoul. Reaghoul orders them to keep Zedd busy before teleporting away with Mucus and they obey, with Wolfgang making the first move and charging on Zedd but Zedd takes them on easily with him dodging the charge and kicking Wolfgang down. Wolfgang tries to take Zedd down only to be sent back by his shockwave. He is then shocked when Javi and Izzy help him while reacting in shock and then relief upon seeing the Rangers help him out. He and Brineblast spectate the Rangers fighting Zedd before the villainous overlord retreats away to retrieve his Z Staff from Ryjack's collection. Seeing Zedd retreat, Wolfgang follows Brineblast's call and grows giant, ending the temporary truce. He and Brineblast are surrounded by the T-Rex Champion, Tricera Blade, and Ankylo Hammer Zords before being attacked by them. The pair are then confronted by the Dino Fury Megazord Blade Formation and despite working together, they were dealt blows from the Megazord's blade before Zayto uses the finisher Double Mega Slash, making them fall onto their sides and explode for good. TV STORY-Old Foes
Even though he is not seen again, Wolfgang participates at the invasion of the Sporix during the final battle against the Rangers and the Rafkonians. He is defeated off-screen by the Rafkonians, his Sporix Egg was used by Void Queen to create Nemesis and after the Rangers' victory, he is imprisoned forever by Master Red, Blue and Green in a crystal.
Personality[]
Wolfgang was a rough monster who seemed proud of his sonic howl and was distraught when Mick neutralized it as his singing career was doomed. Wolfgang appeared to fear Void Knight as when he failed to grab Mick, it seemed he was on his feet begging the warrior for his forgiveness. However, he did seem nice enough to accept to sing at Mucus' birthday party, as stated by the latter. Once being revived, Wolfgang maintained his attitude with him behaving to that of a canid with his sense of smell and his vengefulness as he wanted revenge on Ollie for taking part in defeating him. He was shown to be grateful when the Rangers helped him and Brineblast take on Zedd, but was shown to be a double-crosser as he betrayed them after Zedd left.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Sonic Howl: Wolfgang could let out a howl that fires purple soundwaves which in addition to dealing damage can also disassemble and form of objects. This was his strongest attack as it was powerful enough to disassemble an entire Megazord in a few hits and peel off Boost Key armors.
- Teleportation: Wolfgang could teleport to any location in a vertical column of purple energy.
- Energy Pulses: Wolfgang could unleash dark purple energy pulses from his body which can push his foes away.
- Enlarging: Like all other Sporix Beasts, Wolfgang could enlarge himself through the energy he gains in battle over time.
- Regeneration: In the episode "Old Foes", due to being revived by Reaghoul, Wolfgang could regenerate himself whenever he was destroyed.
Abilities[]
- Sight: Wolfgang was able to see despite not having any visible eyes.
- Headbutt: Wolfgang can bash his foes with his own head(s).
- Canine Physiology: Wolfgang's body possessed canine attributes.
- Enhanced Smell: Wolfgang was able to pick up the Rangers' scent, which was how he and Boomtower found them alongside the Ninja Nexus Prism.
- Enhanced Agility: Wolfgang was agile enough to leap from a building as a giant for an attempted sneak-attack on the Dino Fury Megazord Warrior Formation.
Weaknesses[]
- Vulnerability to No-Howl Drop: Wolfgang could be affected by Mick's No-Howl Drop which caused his voice to become shrill and high-pitched while rendering his howl useless.
- Regeneration Limit: In the episode "Old Foes", there was a limit in how many times Wolfgang could regenerate himself as he and Brineblast were destroyed by the Dino Fury Megazord Blade Formation after doing so only twice.
Arsenal[]
- Claws: Being a canine-type monster, Wolfgang had clawed hands for combat.
- Jaws: Wolfgang could use his gaping jaws to chomp on his enemies.
- Sleepy-Cuffs: Wolfgang used these cuffs to put four of the Rangers to sleep since Ollie wasn't with them at the time.
Behind the Scenes[]
Portrayal[]
- Wolfgang was voiced by Guy Langford in his first Power Rangers role.
Design[]
- Wolfgang's design is based on a wolf and in addition to his Sentai counterpart's design, Cerberus, the three-headed dog of Hades from Greek mythology who guards the gateway to the Underworld.
- The design of Wolfgang's head made it similar to the Xenomorph and its secondary mouth from the Alien franchise.
Etymology[]
- The name Wolfgang originates from Old High German words meaning "wolf" and "path". It was first used by German nobility.
- Wolfgang was named after iconic composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose name was previously used for Wolfgang Amadeus Griller in Power Rangers Turbo twenty-four years before.
- It is also a pun, since the creature is a wolf.
- The name was also used for Wolfgang, nicknamed "Wolfie", one of the monsters of Hillhurst Mansion in Big Bad Beetleborgs'- a series produced by Saban Entertainment, the original company behind Power Rangers.
Notes[]
- In Ryusoulger, Wolfgang was two separate monsters (the Cerberus Minosaur and its elder brother) but they only adapted them as a single monster. This was most likely due to the fact that they destroyed the younger brother normal-sized, along with the fact that the elder brother was the only one of the two to grow giant-sized.
- The Cerberus Minosaur would grow alongside with the Kraken Minosaur/Brineblast as part of an illusion (said fight being used for "Old Foes") but it was unknown which brother had returned then.
- Wolfgang shares the same name as Wolfgang, an antagonist of the animated slice-of-life show that aired on Nickelodeon, Hey Arnold!.
- Wolfgang is the first Monster of Power Rangers Dino Fury to be fought by the Dino Fury Megazord Warrior Formation.
- With the exception of the short Sentai Megazord fight, Wolfgang was mostly used in original footage for his first appearance possibly for the fight to suit his sonic howl and for him to be around Mick. For his second appearance in Old Foes, he's used in a mix of original and Sentai footage as his sonic howl is disabled early on again to match up with the Sentai footage as he doesn't use this ability at all while against Ollie or as a giant with Brineblast.
- Wolfgang was the final Sporix Beast to work under Boomtower before the latter's initial defeat and the third Sporix Beast not to summon or work with Hengemen.
