Wishful Thinking is the sixteenth episode of Power Rangers Dino Fury Season 2, and the thirty-eighth episode overall. It marks the only appearance of the Dino Fury Megazord Warrior Spike Formation.

Synopsis

When a monster’s meddling gives Javi a big break, he must come to terms with the fact that the key to success is hard work, not shortcuts

Plot

Javi has released a new music video of a Pete Flash cover he performed and asks everyone at BuzzBlast to share it so he can get his view count up. It has gone on for a week but has only hit 165 views since this morning. To get his mind off the video, the group takes Javi outside for a walk.

In Area 62, Void Queen releases a Sporix Cell that hatches into Hexcurio. He gives Mucus a wish charm to grant any wish she wants, and she immediately asks for a hat that is fabulous as Hexcurio's. However, Hexcurio reveals that all his wishes come at a price as Mucus' charm dissolves, and she is transformed into a human. Mucus is disgusted by her new appearance, but Void Queen deems the transformation perfect for her latest plan.

At the park, Javi continues to obsess over his video as the Rangers spot Mucus, unaware that it is her, selling wishing charms. Amelia buys charms for herself, Ollie, and Javi, and each makes a wish. Javi wishes for his video to reach a million views, Amelia wishes to see her parents for a moment, and Ollie wishes for a hug from his mom. When the group returns to BuzzBlast, Anne shows Javi that his video has reached a million views. As the numbers keep rising, Jane makes herself Javi's manager while J-Borg gets a call from Pete Flash's manager. Ollie does not understand how this is happening, only to see Dr. Akana in the building. Although happy to see his mom again, Ollie and the rest of the team wonder how she returned from Japan as they never teleported her. They begin to suspect something is wrong, and Zayto suggests going back to the park to investigate the wish charms. Javi stays behind to do a photoshoot for a magazine cover and gives Izzy his charm.

Back at the park, the Rangers confront Mucus and demand answers. Amelia says her wish never came true like Javi and Ollie's and deems her charm faulty, but that causes Hexcurio to come out angry. Hexcurio reveals Mucus' was behind selling them, and she leaves before the Rangers confront the Sporix Beast. Zayto tries calling Javi but cannot because the latter is busy with his photoshoot. Then, Hexcurio activates the curses from his charms, turning Izzy into a small T-Rex Champion Zord, Amelia into a twelve-year-old, and Ollie into a Blue Ranger action figure. Aiyon brings out the Light Key to break the curses, but it is shot out of his hand by Void Queen and Void King. The two scold Hexcurio for revealing himself, as his defeat would cause all the curses to cease. Void King and Void Queen take Hexcurio back to Area 62 while Wreckmate stays behind to fight the Rangers.

Zayto and Aiyon morph and fight against Wreckmate, only for the latter to shoot at them when they try to use the Battle Armor Keys. Izzy goes out to help them but struggles in her new form and hits Zayto with her tail. As the Rangers struggle, Amelia calls Solon for some help. Solon rides on the Dino Fury Cycle and fires at Wreckmate, forcing him to retreat.

Back at BuzzBlast, Javi and Jane are not happy with the photos J-Borg took, but the former manages to take a good one by accident when he catches the camera J-Borg threw away. Jane gets a text from Pete Flash, revealing that he is coming to BuzzBlast for an afternoon concert with Javi. However, Javi is forced to go back to Dinohenge due to the calls he has been getting.

Once Javi sees the state of the affected Rangers, they begin planning what to do to remove the curses. Zayto recalls what Void Queen said about Hexcurio being tied to the curses, suggesting that they defeat him to undo them. However, Javi does not want to defeat Hexcurio today because he is about to perform with Pete Flash. This draws the tire of the team as they find Javi's decision selfish, and none of the affected Rangers want to stay in their present state. Later, Dr. Akana speaks with Javi about his big break and reveals that she had a rough start as an archeologist. Despite Ollie's boasting about her credentials, Dr. Akana had to work to get to where she is today and asks Javi if a magic trick will be his key to success. Javi agrees with Dr. Akana and agrees to take out Hexcurio.

Back at Area 62, Wreckmate gets ridiculed by the others for losing to Solon, and Slyther decides to go and beat the Rangers himself. Hexcurio wants to fight, but because of Void Queen's orders, he is forced to stay. Realizing that Hexcurio's defeat would restore her to normal, Mucus convinces Slyther to let the former join him.

Slyther and Hexcurio attack the warehouse as the Rangers, minus Amelia and Ollie, confront them. They morph and fight the two along with the Hengemen. Zayto and Izzy take on Slyther, the former using the Dino Knight Armor to power up their attacks against him. Slyther sends the Hengemen at the duo before retreating, but they trounce them. Meanwhile, Javi and Aiyon take on Hexcurio, who warns the Black Ranger that he will lose his views if he is defeated. However, Javi refuses to change his mind and summons the Dino Master Saber, activating the Dino Master Armor. One slash from a Stego Master Slash staggers Hexcurio, but he instantly grows in response. Zayto calls for the Zords as Izzy is forced to return to Dinohenge because she is too big for the cockpit. Using the Dino Fury Megazord Warrior Spike Formation and the Mosa Razor Zord Battle Mode, the remaining Rangers confront Hexcurio and overpower him. Then, Zayto summons the Mega Fury Saber, and both Megazords attack Hexcurio with a Twin Dino Slash, neutralizing him. With Hexcurio defeated, everyone affected by his curses returns to normal as a slimy Mucus grabs his Sporix Cell.

Back at BuzzBlast, Jane is shocked to see Javi's view count go down to 194 due to the curse going away as Pete Flash arrives. Jane is forced to tell Pete about the view count going down, upsetting him as he was told Javi had reached a million views. Javi comes to Jane's support and explains his side of the story. Seeing that Javi is not a crook, Pete admits that Javi has what it takes to become famous and decides to do the duet he promised. Javi and Pete play for BuzzBlast, but while everyone enjoys it, Amelia is bummed that her wish did not come true and that she missed her chance to see her parents. Ollie tries to cheer up Amelia by saying she can find the answers, but it fails to make her happy.

• As well as providing her voice, Torum Heng makes a physical appearance in this episode as Mucus' human form.
• Nulleye is absent in this episode.
• The plot is similar to that of Wishing for a Hero from Power Rangers Dino Charge, as the Rangers are granted wishes by the monster of the week which have dangerous outcomes.
  • Coincidentally, not only was that show also themed on Dinosaurs, but the main Monster-Of-The-Week, Hexcurio is also similar to Wish Star of that same episode.
• Wishes granted and outcomes:
  • Mucus: A hat; turned into a human
  • Ollie: Give his mom who is in Japan a hug; turned into an action figure.
  • Javi: Wants his video to have a million likes; though nothing happens to him, but Izzy held his charm at the time which turned her into a miniature version of the T-Rex Champion Zord.
  • Amelia: See her parents for a brief moment; Void King and Queen appear to take out the Gold Ranger's Light Key while Amelia de-ages into a pre-teen
• Although Amelia believed her wish didn't come true, she did however saw her parents for a little while, Void King and Void Queen appear to attack the Rangers. This is a brief foreshadowing of Amelia's past.
• Zayto, Javi and Aiyon are the only Rangers to appear morphed in this episode while Ollie only appears morphed when he's turned into an action figure.
• Zayto and Aiyon's morphed forms are only seen in the Ryusoulger footage.
• In Ryusoulger, Phantom Minosaur (Hexcurio's Counterpart) was the final Monster.
