The Festival[2] is the second episode of Power Rangers Dino Fury Season 2, and the twenty-fourth episode overall. It features the return of Wreckmate, revealing he did survive his apparent destruction in his initial debut in season 1 and it marks the debut of the Dino Fury Cycle and the only appearance of the Dinochucks.

Synopsis[]

Wreckmate returns more powerful than ever, and the Rangers realize they need a new weapon. But since Aiyon damaged Solon’s gear building something new will require creative thinking.

Plot[]

A mysterious being covered in seaweed and trash walks into Area 62, surprising Void Knight and his minions. Slyther thinks it’s a Sporix Beast, but the being takes the seaweed off and reveals himself as Wreckmate. He reveals he survived the battle against the Mosa Razor Zord and got caught by a current. However, Slyther is not interested in Wreckmate’s story and tells the latter to leave as they already have things handled. The two generals argue and prepare to fight, but Void Knight tells them to fight the Rangers, not each other. Wreckmate proposes a challenge to Slyther on who can take down the most Rangers, and the latter accepts. Slyther reveals a potion that can supercharge his combat systems for a few minutes, but Wreckmate takes it and drinks from the beaker. The potion increases Wreckmate’s power, and he tosses Slyther to the side when the latter tries to wrestle the beaker back. Despite that, Slyther says he can still defeat the Rangers without the potion as he and Wreckmate leave.

At Dinohenge, Solon has Zayto and Aiyon come back to base for an important announcement. The other Rangers explain that they wondered when the two’s birthdays were, but Solon explained to them about Rafkon’s Triple Sun Festival: a day of gift-giving for every Rafkonians. Fortunately, Solon says today is the day of the Festival, exciting Zayto and Aiyon. The Rangers give Aiyon and Zayto their gifts: Aiyon gets a motorcycle, and Zayto gets Dinochucks. Solon warns Zayto not to test the Dinochucks inside the base as they are powerful, and the latter decides to try them out outside later. As Solon and the Rangers check on the Flargon cakes, Aiyon stays behind and decides to try out the Dinochucks. Unfortunately, Solon’s warning proves true as the Dinochucks increase their power over time and they fly out of Aiyon’s hands. They ricochet off the storage closet and hit the table, damaging the weapon. In a panic, Aiyon puts the Dinochucks back in their case.

Suddenly the Ranger Hotline goes off with two alerts of Slyther and Wreckmate’s appearances. The Rangers are shocked that Wreckmate is still alive, but Zayto has a plan to deal with the situation. While he, Amelia, and Ollie take on Wreckmate, the others will go after Slyther. The two groups teleport to the different locations as Aiyon’s group confronts Slyther and Mucus. They morph and fight against the duo, but Mucus leaves after Aiyon shoots her in the butt. After Slyther gets overwhelmed by the trio, he summons the Hengemen before retreating.

Meanwhile, Zayto’s group confronts Wreckmate, but the latter drinks the potion before attacking. Wreckmate overwhelms the trio with his punches before using his shoulder cannons against Zayto. Ollie and Amelia get blasted as well by Wreckmate as he lays waste to the two Rangers. Zayto gets an idea and teleports back to Dinohenge for the Dinochucks. With the Dinochucks, Zayto manages to overpower Wreckmate, but just before he could land a Dinochuck Strike, they short circuit and overload from the damages from earlier. An explosion occurs as Zayto and Wreckmate are flung off to different ends. Ollie and Amelia check on Zayto, who is confused about why the Dinochucks did that. They retreat as they are in no condition to fight anymore, just as Wreckmate tumbles back from the explosion.

Meanwhile, Aiyon’s group defeats the Hengemen and they corner Mucus. However, Wreckmate appears and attacks the trio. Wreckmate overpowers the Rangers and fires his cannons at the Garcia siblings, injuring Javi’s shoulder in the process. Aiyon takes the siblings back to Dinohenge as Wreckmate sees that the potion’s effect wore off. Slyther and Wreckmate argue over their respective battles against the Rangers.

Back at Dinohenge, Solon tends to the Rangers as all but Zayto and Aiyon are on the medical beds from their injuries. Zayto does not understand why the Dinochucks malfunctioned, and Solon believes they could have a faulty component. However, when looking at the chucks, they short circuit and explode, leaving dust on the table. Solon believes she could build a new set of Dinochucks but notices the scorch marks on the storage closet. To her horror, all the spare parts stored in it are destroyed. Aiyon confesses to wrecking the Dinochucks and the storage closet due to his earlier foolery with the weapon earlier. Zayto and Solon are unhappy that Aiyon did not heed the latter’s warning and put them at a disadvantage, but Solon says their biggest problem is not having a weapon to defeat Wreckmate. Fortunately, Zayto suggests they use the Legendary Database and find a weapon from the Ranger legacy to use against Wreckmate.

Looking at the Database, the trio is amazed by the different weapons past Power Rangers used in the fight against evil. Zayto suggests building Jayden’s Fire Smasher due to its enormous size and power. However, Solon says she does not have the means to make a Power Disc to harness its full power. Then, Aiyon suggests building Tori’s Sonic Fin due to how it can immobilize a monster’s body with sonic waves. Unfortunately, the only spare audio transducer Solon had was fried in the Dinochuck incident. Afterwards, Zayto brings up how different Ranger teams had motorcycles for transportation, showing Aiyon and Solon the Mighty Morphin Ranger’s Shark Cycles and the Wild Force Ranger’s Savage Cycles. Solon does not see the need for a motorcycle as the Dino Fury Rangers can already teleport, but Zayto reveals that some cycles had firepower against a monster, showing her the Ninja Steel Ranger’s Mega Morph Cycle. Aiyon believes a Mega Morph Cycle could give them enough firepower to defeat Wreckmate, but Solon reminds him that she does not have spare parts to build one. Aiyon tells Solon to use his motorcycle to create a Ranger-based cycle, explaining that defeating Wreckmate is more important than a gift. Solon is touched by this and begins working on the bike. However, the alarm goes off on Wreckmate’s reappearance.

Aiyon goes out alone to deal with Wreckmate while Zayto and Solon work on the bike. Wreckmate drinks the potion and increases his power, but Aiyon morphs and activates the Electro Battle Armor. With his electric attacks, Aiyon manages to be evenly matched against Wreckmate, even overwhelming the general at one point. Once the power-up runs out, Wreckmate tries to drink more potion but finds out that the beaker is empty. However, Wreckmate captures Aiyon with his anchor chain and prepares to bring the Gold Ranger as his prisoner. Fortunately for Aiyon, Zayto and Solon finish their bike project and the Red Rangers comes zooming in on the Dino Bike. Zayto overwhelms Wreckmate with a Plasma Blast before striking with his Chromafury Saber. Wreckmate calls it a draw and retreats. As Zayto helps Aiyon up to his feet, the latter is impressed with the Dino Cycle as they call it the best Festival they had in their lives.

Zayto and Aiyon return to Dinohenge to see the others up from their beds. Solon presents the Rangers with Flargon cakes, and Zayto and Aiyon reveal they must eat them with their faces. The two Rafkon knights enjoy their cakes, and the four Rangers join in on a Triple Sun Festival tradition, with only Amelia liking her Flargon cake.

Errors[]

  • Initially, Aiyon teleports to a small warehouse to fight Wreckmate. Due to the usage of Ryusoulger’s footage, the interior of the warehouse is drastically larger than it was before during the battle.
  • When going through the Ranger database, R.I.C. from Power Rangers S.P.D. shows up, it is unknown how the Rangers or Mick knew about him considering S.P.D. takes place in the future and R.I.C. 2.0 would not have been made yet.

Notes[]

  • Total Sporix Beasts Collected:
    • Void Knight: 11
    • Dino Fury Rangers: 12
  • Archive footage from Samurai, Ninja Storm, Mighty Morphin, Wild Force, and Ninja Steel is used when Zayto, Aiyon, and Solon look through footage of previous Ranger weapons and vehicles, particularly the Fire Smasher, Sonic Fin, Shark Cycles, Savage Cycles, and Mega Morph Cycle respectively.
    • Within that archive footage, Hayley is the only Ranger to appear unmorphed.
  • There is not a Sporix Beast in this episode as it focuses exclusively on the competition between Wreckmate and Slyther.
  • Amelia being the only one liking the Flargon cake gives off the first hint of her being a Rafkonian.
