The Delta Discovery is the eleventh episode of Power Rangers in Space. This marks the first appearance of the Delta Megazord and the return of the Phantom Ranger, Divatox, Rygog, & Zordon.

Synopsis[]

The Power Rangers investigate a planet on their search for Zordon, and find the Phantom Ranger, wounded from an attack by Divatox. He gives Andros a disk which gives him control of the Delta Megaship. The Delta Megaship proves useful in the defeat of the Crocovile monster, when it invades Earth.

Plot[]

The show begins on the planet Hercuron, where Divatox, Rygog and her army of Piranhatrons are taking away a cell containing Zordon. The bottom part of his energy tube is already showing signs of power draining by Dark Specter's lava. As he is being towed off, a Piranahtron notices a mysterious partially invisible presence nearby, who it turns out to be the Phantom Ranger, who is hot on Zordon's trail. He rushes off and records a message into a device, telling the Power Rangers his location. Barely finishing his transmission, Phantom Ranger aims the device in a gun to the sky, when it's shot out of his hand before launching. Divatox and her Piranahtron army have discovered him, but even surrounded by evil, he races for the launcher gun, fighting off her army, before blasting the recording device into space. It soars in the direction of the Astro Megaship, where it is intercepted by D.E.C.A.

The Rangers view Phantom's emergency message, but Cassie still appears to hold feelings for him. His news of Zordon's location gives them hope, so they quickly set a course for Hercuron.

Zordon's energy tube is still being carted off by Piranahtrons while Phantom Ranger is engaged into an outnumbered battle with a gang of them. He makes an invisible break from Zordon, but as he sprints toward him, Astronema and her posse of Quantrons arrived. She has some of her gang help speed up the delivery of Zordon, before firing her staff at Phantom Ranger, who is now fighting both Quantrons and Piranahtrons. Zordon's tube is finally taken aboard Divatox's new ship as Elgar contacts Astronema to tell her that the Rangers are on their way. Divatox is angry upon learning her nephew is now working for her archrival and starts mocking Astronema when Dark Specter arrives and orders her to attack Earth.

The Rangers galaxy glide down to Hercuron as Ecliptor prepares the final blow on Phantom Ranger. He calls off the Quantrons and was ready to finish Phantom himself when the Rangers blast him away. Astronema prevents Ecliptor from taking them on by calling him back to the Dark Fortress. Phantom Ranger is badly hurt, and he gives the Rangers the bad news about losing Zordon again. Alpha 6 scans for a vapor trail of Divatox's ship, but it was lost, so following them was not an option. Astronema sends Crocovile to Earth to stalk some picnickers by Angel Grove Lake. The Rangers don't want to leave Phantom Ranger while they go to protect Earth after being so close to finding Zordon, but they have no choice. Phantom Ranger has a present for Andros and it's a disc that will activate the Delta Megaship, which is a very powerful weapon, and at the moment, unguarded. The Rangers take off, leaving the Phantom Ranger.

The Astro Megaship makes it to Earth's orbit, just as Crocovile surfaces at the lake and starts terrorizing people. The Rangers rush to their jump tubes, where they face Crocovile. He sinks his teeth on T.J.'s arm and whips his snake-like appendage around Carlos' neck. Cassie and Ashley blast Crocovile, tossing Carlos and T.J.. Astronema fires the satellasers to make Crocovile grow. The Astro Megazord was formed, and they start fighting. The Megasaber powers up, but upon slashing down on him, causes him to split in two. The double Crocoviles team up and bites down on the Megazord's arms, draining their power.

Elswhere, Andros finally reaches the Delta Megaship after a long journey on his Galaxy Glider. Teleporting inside, he explores the machinery laden hallways, getting directions from Phantom Ranger via his communicator. Phantom is barely holding up but tells him what he needs to go.

On Earth, the Astro Megazord gets beaten severely by the spliced Crocovile, smashing it with its tail and throwing it all around.

On the Delta Megaship, Andros finds the control room and searches for the security disc reader. He thinks he finds it, but isn't sure, as Phantom Ranger passed out. Andros thinks he activated the self-destruct sequence, but the female computer voice counting down turns out not to be counting down till destruction, but till the disc reading was initiated. Andros calls for the Battlizer, which not only acts as a control function for the Delta Megaship, but will provide him with more firepower. The Delta Megaship rockets off to Earth, and as it enters into the atmosphere, it begins to transform into the Delta Megazord. It landed just in time as the Astro Megazord has been taking a beating, but is still ticking. Andros rushes over to join back up with the Rangers in the Astro Megazord and gives them a quick explanation, speaking commands into the Battlizer. The Delta Megazord and the Astro Megazord evened up the odds by unleashing both the Astro Megazord Blaster and Gyro Blaster simultaneously, defeating the Crocoviles.

After the Rangers' triumph, Dark Specter tells Astronema that this was too close to call, and that the Rangers almost had Zordon. She informs him she has a new plan in the works, and Dark Specter said that if she fails to destroy the Rangers, he'll crush the Dark Fortress.

Back on Hercuron, the Rangers return to find and help out Phantom Ranger, but he was gone. He left behind another message device, which lets them know that he's gone off after Dark Specter. He also tells them to never stop searching for Zordon and they will meet again. The Rangers power down and slowly walk away, but Cassie was sad and worried, shuffling behind them until another message from Phantom pops up, just for her. He told her not to worry or forget about him and they will see each other soon. She smiles and is assured things will be alright, rushing over to rejoin her friends.

Cast[]

Zords[]

Songs[]

  • Go Fly Win (instrumental)

Errors[]

  • When the Rangers watch the Phantom Ranger's message, the dialogue is slightly altered. It becomes more noticeable as he was heard saying "...before" when he was interrupted.
  • As Dark Specter speaks to Divatox and Astronema, Divatox is slightly further away from Astronema than she was before.
  • The crew's reflection is visible off the Phantom Ranger's helmet when he tells the Rangers about Zordon.
    • Their reflection is also visible off the Rangers' helmets when they're notified about the attack on Earth, and when the Phantom Ranger tells them about the Delta Megaship.
  • Carlos glowing the wrong color

    Carlos glowing his old color.

When the Rangers were going down to Earth to fight the Crocovile monster, it showed a red streak along with the other Ranger colors, but Andros wasn't with them when they left the Megaship.
  • In one scene, at the end, the Rangers demorph. However, Andros, T.J., and the girls glow in their respective colors when demorphing. Carlos glowed his old color green even though he was the Black Ranger.

Notes[]

  • This episode marks Rygog's final speaking appearance. His suit actor, Ed Neil, is credited for voicing him this time instead of Walter Lang.
  • Crocovile, the monster of the day, happens to be the first crocodile-themed monster with the name Crocovile. The second happens to be Crocovile from Power Rangers Jungle Fury.
  • First appearance of the Phantom Ranger in Power Rangers in Space. He had last appeared in Turbo's "Clash of the Megazords". He would make his final appearance in "Countdown to Destruction".
  • The connection between Cassie and the Phantom Ranger that comes from Power Rangers Turbo seems to be maintained in this episode. To the point of the Phantom Ranger transmitting an additional message of encouragement to Cassie after informing the other Rangers about her search for Zordon's whereabouts. In Turbo, Cassie was the closest Ranger to the Phantom Ranger and seemed to develop a platonic love for him that at times seemed to be reciprocated.
