- "Engage! (エンゲイジ! Engeiji!)"
- ―Transformation phrase[src]
The TegaSword (テガソード Tegasōdo) is the main transformation device and sidearm of the Gozyugers and Universe Warriors.
Overview
The TegaSword is a right-handed gauntlet sword, equipped with a blue translucent blade which can be used for melee combat. The TegaSword has two different variations used by the Gozyugers and Universe Warriors respectively, the Gold TegaSword (金のテガソード Kin no Tegasōdo) and the Silver TegaSword (銀のテガソード Gin no Tegasōdo). Both variations can be used in conjunction with the Sentai Rings, allowing the user to perform various actions such as transforming, summoning a weapon, and using finisher attacks.
The Gold TegaSword is capable of allowing a Gozyuger to perform a Retransformation, which engages them into a previous Sentai Red while retaining their torso armor as a Gozyuger. This allows the user to use their powers and weapons as a Gozyuger and those of the previous Sentai Red they transform into simultaneously. It is also capable of piercing into a No.1 Monster and extracting its host without harming them. According to Meguru Osai, the Gold TegaSword users are the only ones who can summon the giant TegaSword and pilot it.
The Silver TegaSword, while incapable of Retransformations, is instead able to channel the power of other inserted Sentai Rings, granting the powers of the previous Sentai Red directly related to the inserted Sentai Ring to the user. (i.e. Don Momotaro gaining Red Hawk's wings by using the Jetman Sentai Ring).
History
Functionality
- "Now, make your wish! (さあ、願いを言え! Sā, negai o ie!)"
- ―DX startup announcement and voiceline annoucement after pressing the side button once[src]
- "No.1, No.1! (ナンバーワン、ナンバーワンだ! Nanbā Wan, Nanbā Wan da!)"
- ―DX voiceline annoucement after pressing the side button twice[src]
- "Use the rings, that's our contract! (リングを使え、それが我らの契約だ! Ringu o tsukae, sore ga warera no keiyaku da!)"
- ―DX voiceline annoucement after pressing the side button thrice[src]
The gold TegaSword is mainly used by the Gozyugers to transform, which is done by placing one of the Gozyuger Sentai Rings into the slot below the TegaSword's blade. Both the gold and silver variants of the TegaSword can also be used with one of the Universe Warrior Sentai Rings to transform into one of the previous Sentai Reds that preceded the Gozyugers.
TegaSword is able to communicate to the Gozyugers through the Gold TegaSword, it can also possess it to perform forcibly transformation if needed.
Transformation

- ―Transformation standby initiation announcement with one of the five Gozyuger Sentai Rings[src]
- "Gozyu(Wolf/Leon/Tyranno/Eagle/Unicorn)! (ゴジュウ(ウルフ/レオン/ティラノ/イーグル/ユニコーン)! Gojū(Urufu/Reon/Tirano/Īguru/Yunikōn)!)"

Gozyugers
To initiate a transformation as a Gozyuger or a Retransformation into a previous Sentai Red, the user first inserts their Gozyuger/Universe Warrior Sentai Ring into the slot below the TegaSword's blade. They then begin to perform various motions, clapping their hands together with the TegaSword:
- The user swings the TegaSword to their left, holding it vertically by their head and clapping twice.
- The user then moves their feet, placing the left foot in front at a 90° angle and the right foot behind at a 180° angle clockwise. The user's changing of foot positions is done simultaneously while swinging the TegaSword to their right, holding it vertically on the opposite side of their head and clapping once.
- The user then swings the TegaSword in a circular motion 360° clockwise once and another 270° clockwise from their point of view, drawing a wide circle (which becomes their chestpiece) and pointing the TegaSword horizontally to their left while holding it by their hip, clapping twice. The circulation motion results in a energy ring (the color is dependent of the user, i.e., Hoeru is colored Red, Rikuo is colored blue, etc.) to manifest in front of the user.
- The user then twirls 360° to their right while pointing the TegaSword upwards, drawing and manifesting a gold-colored energy ring (which forms the helmet) to manifest above the user. The user then holds the TegaSword above their head, clapping once.
TegaSword has the ability to possess Gold TegaSword and perform forced transformation. In this situation, the user does not need to place the Sentai Ring into the slot by themselves as TegaSword can insert it automatically.
Universe Warriors
Alternatively, to initiate a transformation as a Universe Warrior, the user first inserts their Universe Warrior Sentai Ring into the slot below the TegaSword's blade. Similarly like the Gozyugers during transformation, the user then begin to perform their own unique set of various motions, clapping their hands together with the TegaSword:
Name | Designation | Transformation Steps |
---|---|---|
Natsume Tsutsumi | Kuwagata Ohger |
|
Tokonatsu Atami | Don Momotaro |
|
Sakuraba | RyusoulRed |
|
Meguru Osai | TyrannoRanger |
|
Kawashima | VulEagle |
|
Iwashita | Zyuoh Eagle |
|
Gaia Todoroki | GaoRed |
|
Shoko Yamori | Red Racer |
|
Gozyugers & Universe Warriors
After the various motions are performed, the transformation is initiated after the user presses the trigger at the TegaSword's handle. The motions can mostly be skipped to just either a single clap, a few claps, or multiple claps without performing any specific motions with the TegaSword to hasten the transformation process prior to pressing the trigger at the TegaSword's handle.
In the case of the Gozyugers, their body is covered with light, except their head, which would be covered by colored claw-like markings instead (in which the color is dependent from their users) as a pair of golden energy rings manifested on their head. The golden energy rings then forms the helmet after taking the form of their rings animal motifs. The light then fades away, revealing their inner suit. Finally, a circle (color designated by the user's ring) and four golden claws like energy forms their torso armors, finishing their transformation.
In the case of the Universe Warriors, the transformation effects are similar to that of their original counterparts. (i.e. = Natsume Tsutsumi transformation includes a God Kuwagata energy manifestation and Amber casing like Gira Husty, albeit the God Kuwagata's energy is colored silver.).
Gozyuger members who use the Sentai Rings will possess similar transformation effects, with the exception being that their original torso armors remain post transformation (i.e. When Rikuo Byakuya uses the Boonboomger Sentai Ring, he'll transform into Bun Red, but with GozyuLeon's torso armor). In the case of Universe Warriors, using other Sentai Ring while transformed will grant them the ability of the new Sentai Ring used (i.e = When Tokonatsu Atami used the Jetman Sentai Ring while transformed into Universe Warrior Don Momotaro, he'll gain Red Hawk's wings along with the ability to fly).
As a standard for Gozyugers and Universe Warriors as whole, the Tsumega Buckle will always appear as their belt post-Transformation.
Summoning
- "(WolfDecalibur/LeonBuster/TyrannoHammer/EagleShooter/UnicornDrill)! 50! ((ウルフデカリバー/レオンバスター/ティラノハンマー/イーグルシューター/ユニコーンドリル)!
50 ! (Urufudekaribā/Reonbasutā/Tiranohanmā/Īgurushūtā/Yunikōndoriru)! Gō!)" - ―Summoning announcement with one of the TegaSword Sentai Rings[src]
After inserting one of the TegaSword Sentai Rings, the user raises and points the TegaSword towards the sky before swinging it to the left side of their head, clapping once before bringing it to the opposite of their head, clapping once more. After both motions are performed, it allows the user to summon the weapon related to the mecha form of the TegaSword Sentai Ring after pressing the trigger at the TegaSword's handle. Said weapon will manifest out from the ring of the Gozyuger's torso armor.[1][2]
Combination
To begin the combination sequence, one of the Gozyuger members opens the legs on their TegaSword. After that, the TegaSword Sentai Ring would vanish from their left index finger and reappear as a giant version of itself, forming the cockpit. Noticeably, the user's clothing, regardless of if they were transformed or not will change into a white garb with black and gold vest and black jeans, also their shoes will change into a pair of brown boots.
Then, Giant God TegaSword would release all of its joints and unfold its legs, rearranged its arms and shoulder pads to face forward. The blades split in half, and the middle joint would be folded as well. The bottom of the robot, twisting 180° counterclockwise before the feet open up to reveal the conversion thrust of the Sole Boosters. If the Gozyuger members have a personal weapon, their personal weapon would become enlarged as well, before it split apart to fuse with Giant God TegaSword as part of its armors and limbs.
Finally, the giant TegaSword Sentai Ring attaches at the top to form the head. To complete the combination, the user exclaims "Ring in!" (リングイン! Ringu in!), then places the smaller version of TegaSword in Robo Mode into the cockpit space and saying "Man and God as One!" (人神一体! Jin-shin ittai!), fusing it with Giant God TegaSword to become a single entity. In the case of TegaSword DekaClaw, rather than the smaller TegaSword, Hoeru sets the WolfDecalibur50 into a slot that appears and uses the weapon as a control stick.
It's worth noting that TegaSword Robo doesn't follow the Gozyuger who summoned him, he just bonds with a Gozyuger, meaning the Gozyugers are able to hijack Giant God TegaSword from each other, which will automatically change Giant God TegaSword's appearance to reflect the current pilot and boot the previous pilot out of the cockpit. Giant God TegaSword (巨神テガソード Kyojin Tegasōdo) is the main Giant Robo of the Gozyugers in No.1 Sentai Gozyuger, unique in that it only requires one pilot and has a specific formation for each of the Gozyugers, five of which are comprised of their weapons attached to the main body.[3] It typically appears in this form before beginning its transformation into TegaSword Red or any of its five other combinations.

TegaSword Red (テガソードレッド Tegasōdo Reddo) is the combination of the TegaSword and the TegaSword Red Sentai Ring. It serves as the first main Giant Robo of GozyuWolf. In this form, TegaSword is skilled in balanced combat. Mirroring GozyuWolf's fierce fighting style, it swings the TegaSword Sword (テガソードソード Tegasōdo Sōdo) around and fights with sharp attacks. It can also perform the Palm Crush (パームクラッシュ Pāmu Kurasshu) open hand strike to block the opponent's vision, fly up while dodging and counterattacking with the Sole Boosters (ソウルブースター Souru Būsutā) energy boosters from both feet, and revert into Giant God TegaSword to perform a handchop-style attack.

Etymology
- The name TegaSword is a combination of "my hand" (手が Te ga) and "sword" (ソード sōdo), which when translated together means "sword hand" (手がソード Te ga sōdo). It can also be translated to "My hand is the sword".
- "TegaSword" is also a reference to and is two kana changes away from becoming "Megazord" (メガゾード Megazōdo), the giant mechs from the Power Rangers series.[4]
Notes
- In an interview with Daigo Matsuura, the producer of No.1 Sentai Gozyuger, multiple notes regarding the TegaSword were mentioned:[5]
- During the creation of the toys, there was a meeting between the producer, Shin-ichiro Shirakura, Hideaki Tsukada and Bandai's executives. Said meeting involved the question of "what was the Super Sentai equivalent of a Henshin Belt
from the Kamen Rider Series
?". This question was expanded to reconsidering "what kind of show is Super Sentai? Is it 'transformations' or 'Robots'?".
- The finalized answer to the topic, which was answered by Bandai's executives, was Robots, as they are what Super Sentai has continously done uninterrupted throughout the years. That's why the TegaSword is both a transformation device and a mecha.
- The idea of TegaSword being a "giant god" was created by the screenwriter Akiko Inoue. Noted by Daigo Matsuura, the screenwriter lived a life which was far removed from robot-themed works, he saw it as an opportunity which allowed him to ponder the question as to "How can we make people who aren't familiar with robots want to watch a robot-themed show?" with Akiko Inoue. This continued with another question: "What kind of robots would you like to watch, Akiko-san?". From there, the idea of a "divine robot, a god-like being" emerged.
- Piloting the Robo form of the TegaSword without transforming stemmed from Akiko Inoue's perspective as a "beginner to Super Sentai". She would ask the producer Daigo Matsuura "Why do they transform before getting into the robot?", which caused the latter to be taken aback by this question. It was noted that the producer could've explained that it was simply tradition or "in-universe, transforming helps to reduce the pilot's physical strain", and so on. But the latter felt it would not address the core issue. It was decided by producer that, "After all, in a robot series, the cockpit scenes should be the most important. The emotions of the characters should surge within the cockpit, which would lead to the movements of the machine. Maybe the Super Sentai series hasn't fully explored the significance of the cockpit scenes. The cockpit is a place where characters' emotions reside. By putting more focus on the cockpit, I wondered if we could make more people interested in the robots themselves".
- The clapping actions performed during the transformation sequence was an idea suggested by Bandai.
- The etymology for the TegaSword being a combination of "Sword Hand" and "Megazord" had come from Bandai.
- During the creation of the toys, there was a meeting between the producer, Shin-ichiro Shirakura, Hideaki Tsukada and Bandai's executives. Said meeting involved the question of "what was the Super Sentai equivalent of a Henshin Belt
- In a deleted scene for episode 7, Meguru Osai hypothesizes that the distinction between the colors of the TegaSword sidearms between the Gozyugers and Universe Warriors were intentional, as the former team are regarded as a "true" Sentai team handpicked by the deity, while the latter team consisting of only Reds acting by themselves, thus they're not actual Sentai Warriors.[6]
- During scenes that include the appearance of Giant God TegaSword, the Variable Mantle is shown to be on the bottom of the TegaSword instead of the top below the fingers.
