Turbo Red Ranger

TJ as the Red Turbo Ranger

Theodore Jay Jarvis Johnson, or T.J. as he is liked to be called, is a fictional character in the Power Rangers universe, starring in the Power Rangers: Turbo and Power Rangers: In Space TV series. He is played by Selwyn Ward.

While en route to the fictitious city of Angel Grove, California, T.J. falls victim to an attack by the villain Divatox. Because of his bravery and his assistance in saving others (including an unmorphed Power Ranger), he was hand-picked to be the successor to Thomas Oliver, the Red Turbo Ranger, in forming the new team of Turbo Power Rangers. Although he was a capable team leader, the Turbo powers were lost when Divatox had managed to overrun the Power Rangers' Power Chamber. Making his way into space to pursue Divatox, he meets Andros, the Red Space Ranger from a distant planet. It was to be noted that during this part of the series, a robotic duplicate of T.J. was created, complete with Ranger powers. The fate of these robotic Power Rangers remains unknown, and may have been erased from continuity.

TJ as the Blue Space Ranger

Although initially receptive of their presence, Andros would later give the four remaining Turbo Power Rangers new powers that matched his own, and T.J. would become the Blue Space Ranger. During a battle with the combined forms of Ecliptor and Darkonda, Darkliptor, TJ lost his memory of who he was and the other Rangers. He would remain the Blue Space Ranger for the remainder of the series, as well as in the Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy episodes where he serves as a cameo.

T.J. made his final appearance in the Power Rangers: Wild Force episode Forever Red, where he, as the Red Turbo Ranger, and nine other Red Rangers defeated the remnants of the Machine Empire, the main villains of Power Rangers: Zeo. It was unknown how he reobtains his Red Ranger powers, and whether his powers as the Blue Space Ranger remain. Fans of Power Rangers argue that the powers that he had were actually those of the robotic duplicate, or was reconstructed in the same fashion of that of the Red Dino Ranger. Like many of the other Power Rangers, it is unknown what had happened to him after Forever Red, with many fans of the series claiming that T.J. continues to serve as the second-in-command to Andros.

It should be noted that T.J was the first known African American Red Ranger, this would be repeated with Jack Landors in Power Rangers S.P.D.,and was the first known African American Blue Ranger.

It should also be noted that the full name was never referenced in Turbo or Space, and the full name may, in fact, be a retcon (or perhaps a reference to another of Saban's series: Masked Rider star Dex was played by an actor called TJ - short for Ted Jay). However, there is no evidence supporting either side of the argument.
