Super Sentai 40th Anniversary

The Super Sentai 40th Anniversary was officially commemorated primarily in 2016 by the broadcast of the 40th series entry, Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger. Concurrent with the Kamen Rider 45th Anniversary, the campaigns were combined into the Super Hero Year campaign by Toei Company.

2015

Initially, the 39th series installment and third ninja-themed series Shuriken Sentai Ninninger, commemorated 40 years following the premiere of the original Himitsu Sentai Gorenger with the return of Teruaki Ogawa and Shun Shioya as past ninjas NinjaRed and HurricaneRed respectively. First teased in Shinobi 6: Tengu's Spiriting Away, they guest starred in Shinobi 7: Spring Ninja Festival!, which featured a cameo by Akarenger as well as introducing the Kakuranger and Ninninger Nin Shuriken. The latter episode was intended to be broadcast on April 5th, exactly 40 years following the premiere of Gorenger, only to air a week behind as a result of the postponement of Ressha Sentai ToQger Station 46: The Final Destination due to news coverage concerning the murder of Kenji Goto.

• Movie - Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger the Movie: The Heart Pounding Circus Panic featured easter eggs paying homage to each of the 39 previous Super Sentai, including cameo appearances from several animal-themed Super Sentai characters.
• Movie - Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger vs. Ninninger: Message from the Future from Super Sentai was theatrically released as the 40th anniversary movie in January 2017.
• Special/Miniseries - Super Animal War accompanied the Blu-ray release of Zyuohger
