Spada (スパーダ Supāda) is Kajiki Yellow (カジキイエロー Kajiki Ierō, lit. Swordfish Yellow), the Yellow Ranger of the Kyurangers. An extra-terrestrial human from the Kajiki System, he is one of the first three Kyurangers, after Stinger, to be awakened. Two years after the permanent defeat of Don Armage, Spada finally fulfilled his dream to open a restaurant.

Aged 28, Spada was born on May 9th.[1]

History[]

Early Life[]

Spada grew up in the Kajiki System, which was already under Jark Matter rule. Spada began cooking at a young age in order to take care of his siblings, which would later push him to become the best chef in the universe. Tvicon TV STORY-Space.8: Secret of Commander Shou Ronbou

As Kajiki Yellow[]

At unknown point in time he was chosen by the Kajiki Kyutama and was the first Kyuranger to be recruited by Raptor 283 on the board of the Orion. While entering a warp hole Spada wasn't sure if they'll make it out, but they eventually made it safe and declared that as a miracle.Tvicon TV STORY-Space.32: Orion, Forever

Lucky's first Spada meal

Spada impressed the newcomer Lucky with his cooking.

He was part of the 3-member away team sent by Raptor 283 of the Orion, along with other Kyurangers, Hammy and Champ, into battle in the flat planet of Crotos. Here the Kyurangers battle Jark Matter and attempt to save as many civilians as possible. They encounter a man from Luth, Lucky who makes it his goal to be one of them. They bring Lucky into the Orion to help fix his crashed space cruiser. Once there, they find Lucky has made off with a Transformation Controller Seiza Blaster and they go to the planet Jagjag to track him down. The three witness both Lucky and a Jagjag resident, Garu, as they become Kyurangers. Tvicon TV STORY-Space.1: The Super Stars of Space

Spada making peace

Spada quickly abated tensions when the BN Team joined the crew.

Sent by Raptor 283 to follow Lucky to Zigama, which he had pinpointed as the location of the next Kyuranger, Spada and the others fought against that planet's Jark Matter garrison before being forced to fall back after facing the powerful Karō Eridron. Lucky's hunch ultimately bore fruit as the team welcomed Naga Rei and Balance to the Orion, the pair of thieves having helped them take down Zigama's Daikaan Gamettsui having respectively transformed into Hebitsukai Silver and Tenbin Gold. Introduced by Raptor to commander Shou Ronbou, the seven Kyurangers were sent to save the planet Needle from destruction at the hands of the Jark Matter. Engaged by a hostile new Kyuranger, Stinger, Spada and the others bar Lucky and Champ were struck by the Sasori System native's sting. However, the afflicted Kyurangers ultimately recovered in time to destroy the Moraimarz that was draining Needle's Planet Jume. Tvicon TV STORY-Space.3: The Man from the Desert Star

Orion[]

Spada was part of the five-member team which destroyed the Moraimarz piloted by Daikaan Mozuma. Back on the Orion, while Lucky and Kotaro were still on Earth, the others discovered that they had lost control of the ship and that they had been sent on a direct course to the Sun, causing a sharp rise in temperature much to the discomfort of Spada and the other organics. The ship and crew were ultimately saved, however, as Mozuma was destroyed by Shishi Red and Koguma Skyblue, causing his microbic extensions to dissipate and return control of the ship. Tvicon TV STORY-Space.10: A Small Giant, Big Star!

Spada was part of the five-member team led by Shou to acquire the Tomo Kyutama, component of the Argo, on Earth. With assistance from Kotaro, who had snuck out of the ship, the team were able to recover the Kyutama from a Deathworm which had consumed it. Tvicon TV STORY-Space.11: Three Kyutama to Save The Universe

Returning from Vela in the midst of Stinger and Champ's fight with Scorpio, Spada fought in KyurenOh to take down a Deathworm that the Karo had enlarged. Tragically, Champ was near destroyed after saving Stinger from Scorpio, and so Stinger was ordered to take his body to Rebellion HQ in hopes that he could be saved. Zyuohger vs. Ninninger[]

"The feast becomes more luxurious the more dishes it has."
―Spada on his team.[src]

Through unknown circumstances, the nine Kyurangers made a brief appearance on an Earth where Jark Matter was not present. Instead, the Kyurangers arrived to intervene against the Deathgalien before they could interfere with the Zyuohgers' fight with the Ninningers for the future of Super Sentai against Gillmarda. With Kajiki Yellow aiding in wiping out the Moeba pack, the Kyurangers eventually forced the Deathgalien to retreat before taking their leave with their appearance observed by the Zyuohger ally Bud, who realized that the future was in safe hands. Planet Toki[]

Spada Card

Seeking the Kyutama of the Tokei System, the Kyurangers came to the planet Toki and turned the 12 keys needed to unlock it within 30 minutes. Approaching key IX, Spada fought an exhaustive battle with a fake Madakko who revived through all four of her known incarnations. Tvicon TV STORY-Space.25: Planet Toki, the Boy's Determination!

Return to Earth and Final Battle[]

As the team returned to Earth for the final time and learned that Tsurugi was almost out of life force, Lucky asked each team member to share what they hoped to do when the war was over. Spada said his main goal was to become the best chef in the galaxy.

In the final battle against Don Armage's forces, Raptor and Spada controls the Consumarz and other giant troops - Raptor using the Orion Battler while Spada covered her in the Kajiki Voyager. When one Consumarz fired a blast that would have destroyed the Orion Battler, Spada steered his Kajiki Voyager into the shot, sparing Raptor but sending his ship crashing into the ground. After Raptor finished the remaining giants, she landed and found the unmorphed Spada injured. Rapor started fighting to protect him, saying she was counting on him to whip everyone a victory meal when they finished. Spada joined her, replying that she'd better be alive to enjoy it with them. At some unspecified point, the two of them were rendered unconscious until Don Armage consumed them along with seven other Kyurangers. However, Lucky was able to free Spada and the other Kyurangers for the final fight.

Aftermath[]

Two years later, Spada had sucessfully opened a restaurant and invited the other Kyurangers to celebrate it getting a nine-star review. The celebration was interrupted, however, by Lucky and Garu crashing into his restaurant's patio, decimating it.

Personality[]

Not enough chefs

Spada explains that there are not enough chefs (Kyurangers) yet to cook the full course meal of liberating the universe.

Spada is a man who aspires to become the greatest chef in the universe. He often uses food-related metaphors and snippets of Italian when he speaks. Spada is arguably the most mature of the Kyurangers: he rarely loses his patience or poise, and acts like a father figure to his teammates (particularly Hammie).

This father figure idea is especially apparent with Raptor, in which her dream was to fight alongside the Kyurangers. However, Spada is against the idea of her doing so, out of the sake of her own safety. However, he finally realized what he was doing was no different to Jark Matter's, after Lucky got him to come to his senses.

Spada OP

Spada/Kajiki Yellow
Tetsuji Sakakibara

  • Spada is portrayed by Tetsuji Sakakibara (榊原徹士, Sakakibara Tetsuji). As Kajiki Yellow, his suit actor is Shinsuke Kusano (草野伸介, Kusano Shinsuke) in his debut role as a Sentai Ranger, having portrayed monsters and villains before it.

Notes[]

  • There is an obvious height discrepancy with Spada and Lucky/Shishi Red between their civilian and Sentai Ranger forms. While Lucky is taller than Spada in civilian form, when transformed Kajiki Yellow is now taller than Shishi Red.
  • Spada is the first Sentai Ranger to have a swordfish motif.
  • Of the 88 modern constellations, he represent Dorado, which is typically depicted as "the Dolphinfish", but can also be depicted as "the Swordfish"
  • Spada is the Italian word for "sword", a reference to his use of the Italian language as well as his swordfish motif.
  • Spada's roll call title as Kajiki Yellow is a play on the word "meister", in his case specifically describing him as a "food-meister", referring to his profession as a chef.
  • As humorously noted by fans, Spada's roll-call as Kajiki Yellow gets increasingly higher in pitch with each episode in the series he appears in. This also eventually extends to his stageshow appearances, where Spada would perform his roll call in a dramatically high-pitched voice.[2]
    • In an episode of the YouTube web series Super★Heroine CharaBen Cooking produced by Toei where actor Tetsuji Sakakibara was a guest alongside host Nao Nagasawa, he explained that he hadn't intended to do it at first, but decided to roll along with it as he found it interesting to do.
  • Due to Power Rangers Cosmic Fury not having a Yellow Ranger, Spada has no direct counterpart in the series, though as a nod, the series' Gold Ranger Aiyon cooks for the team occasionally.
