Silver Horns was a tick monster who served as the main antagonist of the second part of the two-part episode "The Power Transfer.”

History

After the Power Rangers retrieve the Sword of Light, Serpentera travels too slowly to Earth for Lord Zedd’s liking. As such, Zedd creates Silver Horns out of thin air to attack the Earth. Silver Horns was a very laidback and flamboyant monster with a thick Texan accent and stereotypical southern American vocabulary. Powers wise, Silver Horns attacks with beams from his horns and eyes, as well as fire.  Silver Horns attacks the Park and encounters the new team of Power Rangers (with Rocky DeSantos, Adam Park, and Aisha Campbell having joined the team whilst the others attend a Peace Conference in Switzerland). The Power Rangers were ready to destroy him but he blasted them down with a laser blast as a team and then individually before creating Putties to finish them off. After they are defeated, Zedd enlarges Silver Horns who Rocky has to battle alone in the Red Dragon Thunderzord since the others have to prepare for the eventuality of Serpentera’s arrival. Although the very first blow against Silver Horns (a jump kick immediately after it’s transformation, they grapple before the Red Dragon throws him off and he delivers a beatdown with his claws. and backhands the Red Dragon away for several miles. The Red Dragon tries to use its staff but Silver Horns shrugs off multiple slashes and returns the favor. Fortunately, the Red Dragon’s spinning staff kick finally stuns Silver and allows the the Red Dragon to perform its finisher. Unfortunately, even this fails to scratch the monster which forces Tommy to aid Rocky with the White Tigerzord in Warrior Mode. Enraged, Silver Horns smashes a mountain to bombard them with rocks but they barely make the Zords stumble so he blasts them with lightning and then fire. Unfortunately for him, the Zords are mostly unfazed so Tommy summons Tor and calls upon the other Power Rangers as well to bring the monster down. The other Rangers summon the four remaining Thunderzords and form the Thunder Ultrazord whilst Silver Horns can only yell in horror in reaction. The Red Dragon flies it into the air with it's staff and then stops spinning it which point the Thunder Ultrazord plummets out of the sky, crushing Silver Horns to death as it lands right on top of him.

Personality

Silver Horns had a very thick Texan accent, speaking very much like a cowboy and was relatively laid-back for most of the battle, likely due to the one-sidedness of it. Due to this theme, he also spoke like a stereotypical cartoon southern American (referencing chickens and hoe-downs a lot). However, once the Tigerzord showed as reinforcements, he got far more serious and violent.

Powers and Abilities

  • Strength-Silver Horns was one of the physically strongest monsters of Season 2, being able to send the Red Dragon Thunderzord flying with a single backhand strike and smashing a mountain into rubble with one swing.
  • Durability-Silver Horns has very thick armour like skin that allowed him to take multiple strikes from the Red Dragon Thunderzord's staff and be completely unfazed.
    • Resilience-Silver Horns shrugged off four spin kicks from the Red Dragon Thunderzord with only the fifth having an effect.
  • Life Stealing-According to Lord Zedd, Silver Horns could steal the lifeforce out of humans. How he would have done this is unclear.
  • Lightning Emiting-Silver Horns was seen with green lightning spreading from the horns across his body when he met the Power Rangers. This didn’t actually do anything.
  • ”Bug Bomb”-Silver Horns’ opening attack on the Power Rangers was throwing his right arm forward and throwing a baseball shaped red laser that then turned into spread of yellow lightning capable of taking down all six of the Rangers down with one hit.
    • Putty Creation-Silver Horns was able to create Zedd’s Putty Patrollers by firing his “bug bombs” off into some distant trees.
  • Lightning Blasts-Silver Horns’ signature attack where he could make his eye turn white and then fire red-blue-yellowy lightning from the claws, horns and spikes jutting from his body. One blast knocked back the Red Dragon Warrior Mode and White Tigerzord with one hit.
    • Flame Blasts-Silver Horns’ lightning blasts could also apparently become streams of orange fire. This was due to sloppy editing by splicing footage from a different Dairanger episode.

Arsenal

  • Claws-Silver Horns lacked any real weapons but had massive hands covered in razor sharp claws to hack and slash his enemies with.

Behind the Scenes

Portrayal

  • Just like many other characters, Silver Horns was voiced by Michael Sorich who gave him a cartoonish Texan accent.

Notes

  • In Dairanger, Silver Horns was a creature brought forth from Hell by the boy villain Akomaru as the muscle in his scheme to turn Kou the Kibaranger evil like him. He was also the only monster in the season not to be a Gorma Minion and instead, a different type of beast, entirely.
    • Also, unlike Silver Horns, he was incapable of speech aside from grunting, growling, and snarling.
    • The Silver Horns costume was repainted  and given a tongue in the episode "A Friend in Need", as the monster Repellator.
  • Silver Horns originally fought both the White Tigerzord and the Thunder Megazord in Dairanger and not the White Tigerzord and Red Dragon Thunderzord Warrior Mode.
    • This was changed in Power Rangers because the “Zord fight” between the two consisted of two shots (which wouldn’t justify the stock footage of it forming since they form the Thunder Ultrazord right after the White Tigerzord arrived) and even then the shots that did show it involved a lot of strikes to the chest.
      • This change was also why Saban had the main four remaining Rangers sit and wait for Serpentera or them not forming the Megazord wouldn’t make sense.
  • The reason that we never saw the Red Dragon Thunderzord hit Silver Horns with its finisher (the scene transitioning to the other Rangers instead) was because it never made contact with him in Dairanger. His counterpart fled from the battle when  RyuseiOh activated it's Great Windmill Slice.
    • They didn't do this in Power Rangers because of both evil White Ranger, Akomaru (a blatantly Japanese child), and a Japanese woman (the mother of both Kou and Akomaru in Dairanger).
      • This limited amount of usable footage was also why there is a long gap between the Red Dragon activating its finisher and the Tigerzord arriving to help Rocky.
