Shinobi 44: The Final Battle! The Ordeals of the Last Ninja (最終決戦!ラストニンジャの試練 Saishū Kessen! Rasuto Ninja no Shiren) is the forty-fourth episode of Shuriken Sentai Ninninger. It is the first part of the four-part endgame featuring the debut of a fully-revived Gengetsu Kibaoni, the return of Raizo Gabi since his death in episode 12, and the final appearance of Masakage Tsugomori.
Synopsis[]
The road to the final battle begins as Gengetsu Kibaoni and the revived Kibaoni generals makes their move while AkaNinger faces the Last Ninja.
Plot[]
With the Ninningers onlooking, Gengetsu Kibaoni explains that his concubine had Izayoi Kyuyemon, real name Shingetsu Kibaoni, in secret. Knowing that he was about to lose, Gengetsu sent him into the future, where he became Yoshihara's student with the plan of reviving Gengetsu and helping him destroy the Igasakis. Gengetsu revives Raizou Gabi while announcing that Masakage Tsugomori will strike first.
The Ninningers are about to go fight when Yoshitaka announces it's time for them to take the Last Ninja exam. Takaharu is to go first while the others fight Tsugomori. As the two go to a clearing in the woods, Yoshitaka attacks Takaharu, revealing that he must strike Yoshitaka down to pass.
The other Ninningers attack Tsugomori, who bewitches Kasumi, Kinji, and Nagi into fighting on his side and attacking Yakumo and Fuka. Tsugomori reveals that he replaced all of their memories of fighting alongside Takaharu with fighting alongside Tsugomori, turning himself into the hero they idolized and were dependent on. He tries the same on Yakumo and Fuka, but it fails - Fuka because Takaharu will always be her imperfect, thoughtless brother, and Yakumo because he always fought to surpass Takaharu instead of relying on him. The two start thinking of Takaharu's most embarrassing memories - destroying the dojo while dueling with Kinji, being paralyzed in fear when seeing bell peppers, and being forced to juggle them in the video game universe - forcing Tsugomori to insert himself into those memories as well. This allows Yakumo and Fuka to break free, attack him, and free the rest.
The Ninningers attack Tsugomori and cause him to fall, but he gets up again. Yakumo uses a revealing spell and discovers that the real Tsugomori is only an inch tall, piloting the mecha body that they thought was Tsugomori from behind its eyes. They destroy the face, leaving tiny Tsugomori exposed. He grows to giant size, but the Ninningers defeat him in King Shurikenjin and Ha-Oh Shurikenjin.
Throughout this, Yoshitaka and Takaharu continue their fight. Although Takaharu defeats him, he refuses to kill him. Yoshitaka reveals that the only way for a ninja to become the Last Ninja is to kill the predecessor and take the End Shuriken from his dead body, just as he killed his own father long ago. Takaharu refuses to do this and says that none of the others would be willing to either. Yoshitaka declares them all unfit to become Last Ninja. He knocks Takaharu out with a wind-based ninjutsu, and declares that it was a mistake to teach them as he walks away.
