Shinobi 43: The Legendary Ninja! Yokai Karuta Tactics (伝説のニンジャ！妖怪かるた大作戦 Densetsu no Ninja! Yōkai Karuta Daisakusen) is the forty-third episode of Shuriken Sentai Ninninger. It features a guest appearance by Shurikenger from Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger and the TV debut of the Shuku Shuku Shaku Sho Shuriken after its appearance in Ressha Sentai ToQger vs. Kyoryuger: The Movie.
Synopsis[]
The Igasakis are doing New Year's cleaning at the dojo when suddenly Tsumuji attacks Takaharu. It is revealed that it is actually the Sky Ninja of the Hurricanegers, Shurikenger in disguise and he has challenged the Ninningers to a game of karuta to test their Yokai knowledge.
Plot[]
The Ninningers are doing end-of-year cleaning when Tsumuji challenges Takaharu to a ninja duel; however, the real Tsumuji soon comes in from another room. With his cover blown, the dueling Tsumuji reveals that he is actually Shurikenger, having been asked by Jiraya to provide the Ninningers with winter training and having heard from Sasuske and Yousuke that they are still novices. Kasumi and Takaharu point out that the latter don't know about how much has changed in the six months since they last met. Shurikenger proposes using karuta cards to review the various Yokai that the Ninningers have eliminated.
Gameplay is normal until a Yokai Kami sneaks in and places a curse on the cards. Now, in addition to the cards being able to move, if a Ninninger gets a card wrong they are sucked into the correct answer to fight an upgraded version of that Yokai. Fuka is forced to fight Yamabiko, who can now impersonate physical appearances as well as voices; Yakumo faces a version of Otoroshi that cannot turn back into his lawnmower Carly, and Kasumi faces Yuki Onna, who is powered up now that she's fighting in the winter rather than the hot summer. In order to provide backup, Shurikenger provides clues for those three Yokai again, and the remaining Ninningers deliberately answer incorrectly. Nagi reminds Fuka that they can attack anything in that world that's not them; Kinji shows Yakumo that the real Carly is fine so they can destroy Otoroshi guilt free; and Takaharu uses the fire of the Chosetzu Brace to counter the cold of Yuki Onna.
The Ninningers return triumphant to the dojo, where Kami turns the remainign karuta into their respective Yokai. Most are dispatched immediately, but Takaharu nearly burns the dojo down by using the Chosetzu finisher indoors; Shurikenger instead eliminates his target by using his 1000 knocks technique. They then learn that the Yokai responsible for this is just a blank card; Takaharu uses UFOmaru's shuriken to shrink so he can destroy it with the Chosetzu Brace. As the Ninningers clean up the mess, Yoshitaka and Shurikenger reflect on how mature the Ninningers are before the latter leaves.
Throughout the episode, Ariake no Kata had been searching for Mangetsu, having been thrown out of the battle before his demise. Near the end, Kyuyemon arrives and shows proof of his death to Ariake no Kata, causing her to wail in despair. Her overflowing fear and anguish flood into Gengetsu's pool, allowing for his full revival and the rise of the Yokai palace over the city. The Ninningers and Yoshitaka see this and realize that the final battle is fast approaching.
