Shell Shocked is the fourth episode of Power Rangers in Space. It is a crossover with Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation.
Synopsis[]
In order to destroy the Space Rangers, Astronema uses her powers to brainwash another similar team of teen heroes, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. With them under her power, the Turtles con the Rangers into letting them on the Astro Megaship, so they can take it over for her.
Plot[]
In New York City, the Ninja Turtles are still confused over their teleportation from the Sewers onto city streets. They get the answer when Astronema, Elgar & Quantrons teleport in. She reveals her role behind their mysterious transfer, with Venus recognizing her as the Princess Of Evil and that she plans to use the five mutants to destroy the Power Rangers. The Turtles laugh at her, saying that the Rangers are just pretend and even if they were real, they would never fight them. Astronema then picks up her Wrath Staff and blasts a beam into their eyes, filling them with a purple essence of evil.
On board the Astro Megaship, Andros introduces the Rangers to his Galaxy Glider. They'll each have their own, using the sleek designed boards to be less vulnerable to attack than in the Megaship. D.E.C.A. detects a monster named Electrotramp attacking Angel Grove's power supply. The Ranger teens hop through their assigned Jump tubes, setting off an automatic morph, launching them on their Gliders down to Earth.
Upon landing at the power plant, they begin to take on Electrotramp, but none of their weapons do much good on the crafty villain. His electroballs start beating the Rangers back, when suddenly a blast of five green beams strike one of the powerballs, saving the Rangers from an electric jolt. The smoke clears, the Ninja Turtles stand revealed and soon take on the monster themselves. Using their usual, slapsticky fighting attitude, they are able to turn one of the monster's Electroballs on himself by playing a game of Ninja Baseball. Electrotramp is destroyed and the two teams greet each other. Andros' Earthen teammates are shocked the Turtles are in fact real, yet they know each of the Turtles' names, likewise with the Rangers being nothing but a myth to the Turtles. Andros stands offside, suspiciously watching the Ninja team, and when they mention hearing the Rangers have a spaceship and ask for a lift back to New York City, he's even more cautious of them. Despite Andros' pleas to his teammates over the coincidence of their arrival, the others figure the Turtles' reputation speaks for itself and have Alpha teleport all nine of them to the Astro Megaship. Andros doesn't trust them, but heads back to space to keep a close eye on them.
The Ranger teens give the Turtles a complete tour of the Megaship, answering questions about nearly everything. Ashley tells Donatello the Jump Tubes can lead to either the Gliders or the Mega Shuttle. Leonardo whips up a pizza on the Synthetron. Donatello presses Ashley for some more info on D.E.C.A.'s navigational knowledge, while Andros spies on them via a viewing screen in the engine room. Cassie leads Raphael & Venus into said room, showing them the Mega Accelerator. Raphael asks how fast the ship can go, but D.E.C.A. states Maximum Hyper Rush Velocity is classified. Alpha informs everyone the Megaship is over New York City, so it's time to head to the bridge and say goodbyes. Once alone, Andros questions Cassie as to why the Turtles are so interested into the details of the Megaship, but she chalks it up to curiosity.
Meanwhile, in one of the Megadecks, someone breaks open the Main Computer Control Terminal panel and begins to do some rewiring. D.E.C.A. is aware of this and warns Andros. He rushes to investigate, finding Donatello, Leonardo & Michelangelo as the culprits. He's too late to stop them, they've already modified D.E.C.A. to speak Turtle-lingo and work against the Rangers. Andros quickly beats the mutants off him and runs away.
On the bridge, the Ranger girls witness the Megaship turning around and leaving orbit, with Raphael & Venus explaining the ship is now an official "green machine" and under their control. Astronema teleports aboard wearing her battle armor, along with a few Quantrons & Elgar. The Ranger girls fight through some of Quantrons, but in the process of escaping, Alpha is captured. Andros continues eluding the other 3 Turtles, as nearby T.J. & Carlos wind up bumping into a surprise group of Quantrons. Astronema is amazed at how clean the bridge is, but puts her admiring of Alpha's dusting skills off and informs D.E.C.A to take only her commands, and set a course for the Teonta Galaxy.
Astronema reports to Dark Specter on the viewing screen of the Megaship bridge with the great news of the Rangers' capture. He finds it poetic that they'll crush the Rangers with their own mighty Astro Megazord. Leonardo mentions one of the five is still missing, Astronema shuts him up before Specter can hear. She threatens to toss him and his friends into the nearest black hole unless they find Andros and soon.
Meanwhile, down in the Engine room, the four captured Rangers are tied up and are being watched by Quantrons. Andros is lurking behind the Mega Accelerator, using his telekinesis to move a pair of apparent pliers into a wire cutting position as T.J. watches the whole thing. Andros accidentally loses his train of thought, and the pliers fall to the floor making a clatter. One of the Quantrons questions them on what the noise was, T.J. nonchalantly hands him the cut wires and gives him a sharp kick. The Rangers then rush towards the jump tubes, passing the Turtles and making an escape to the Mega Shuttle, morphing upon sliding through the tubes.
Since there can be no Megazord without that shuttle, Astronema has D.E.C.A. with the Turtles running the steering controls and set the Megaship to follow the Rangers. Andros maneuvers the shuttle through a nearby reversed polarized magnetic field, in hopes of jamming the Megaship sensors. Astronema learns too late what they're headed for, and the turtles can't veer the Ship away in time, so they end up going straight through the magnetic field. This not only slows the Megaship down, but counteracts the effects of Astronema's spell on the Ninjas. The restored good Turtles refuse to do anymore of her dirty work, but she will have the last laugh, commanding D.E.C.A. to self-destruct the Megaship before teleporting away to safety. The Turtles are excited about having the spaceship to themselves, but scream in terror upon hearing the one-minute countdown to destruction.
The Mega Shuttle has landed on a nearby planet, and the Rangers are running, when Astronema and a bunch of Quantrons teleport in front of them. She orders the attack, and while the Rangers put up a good fight, they're ultimately outnumbered.
Back on the Astro Megaship, the Turtles head to the command terminal to rewire D.E.C.A. and stop her from self-destructing the ship. Donatello gets some mystical calming help from Venus, helping him figure out it's the green wire he needs to reconnect, restoring D.E.C.A. to normal in time and stopping the self-destruct sequence. Astronema is enjoying the ringside seat to her Quantrons giving the Rangers quite a beating, even joining in by tossing her Wrath-arang at Andros, taking him down. Suddenly, the Turtles stand above him holding his Spiral Saber, but instead of using it on him, Leonardo hands it to Andros, offering to lend a hand in the battle. Andros feels they're being honest about being good this time, and soon they join the Power Rangers in helping to fight off the Quantrons, pairing into groups of one Ranger and Turtle Each:
- Cassie & Michelangelo
- TJ & Donatello
- Ashley & Raphael
- Carlos & Venus
- Both teams' Leaders.
These combos end up being too much for the Quantrons, as they stack them into a defeated pile in front of Astronema. She teleports out with her beaten cronies, but vows revenge on everyone there. The two teams shake hands, make friends and head to the Mega Shuttle arm in arm.
The Ninja Turtles say good-bye to the Power Rangers, and apologies are exchanged. Invitations are extended both ways and D.E.C.A. doesn't hold a grudge against Donatello for reprogramming her, but still zaps him in the bottom half of his shell. Before they leave, the Turtles ask one favor and get it: to take a ride on the Galaxy Gliders, which have a built-in environmental shield.

Zords[]
Errors[]
- When Astronema tries to cover Leonardo's mouth to make him stop talking, she covers his beak instead.
Notes[]
- This is the second crossover with another series, the first being in the third season of Mighty Morphin' with Masked Rider AKA Kamen Rider Black RX, both made by Saban.
- This episode contains no Megazord Battle.
- The Ninja Turtles costumes are the costumes used in Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. They also include Venus de Milo who is in that series.
- This episode marks the debut of the rest of the Galaxy Gliders.
- Due to The Next Mutation being filmed in Vancouver while Power Rangers was filmed in California, the Turtles were portrayed by different suit and voice actors in this episode to those from their own show.
- The Turtles exhibit the ability to reflect and bounce around an energy ball thrown by an enemy. This ability is usually for Venus de Milo, but not seen by the other male turtles in The Next Mutation. Splinter displays such an ability in the anime OVA of Ninja Turtles, so this appearance implies that the male turtles were taught how to do this.
- This makes for the first time that the Power Rangers were referred to as comic book characters with it happening again in Ninja Storm's "Prelude to a Storm" by Tori Hanson.
- This episode picked up where "Save Our Ship" left off.
- Ecliptor is not seen with Astronema in this episode after being destroyed in the last episode.
- This marks the last time to date that a team of Power Rangers has allied with someone from a different television show.
- This also marks the last time that the Power Rangers team up with a non-Power Ranger character until Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel's "Sheriff Skyfire".
- At the end of the episode when the Turtles are riding the Galaxy Gliders Michelangelo is the only one seen which Galaxy Glider he is riding, in this case Andros'.
- This episode also marks the first time that both the Power Rangers & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchises would crossover with each other followed by the 2 comic book crossovers from Boom! Studios and IDW.
