This article is about an episode in Power Rangers Dino Fury. |
Serious Business is the eighth episode of Power Rangers Dino Fury Season 2, and the thirtieth episode overall. It is the second part to the three-part arc regarding Void Knight's defection and Void Queen as the new boss, foreshadowing the appearance of Snageye in the following episode.
Synopsis[]
The Buzzblast livestream is hacked by a masked individual, so the Ranger teens set off to uncover who’s behind it. Aiyon helps the hacker learn that helping is better than hindering.
Plot[]
After Tarrick’s defection, Santaura has everyone search for her lover and admit the punishment he deserves for betraying her and helping the Rangers defeat Squashblight. Slyther comes back with no signs of Tarrick, so Santaura decides to try something else. She removes a Sporix Cell from the machine and has it hatch into Trackenslash. Santaura has Trackenslash smell Tarrick’s throne for his scent, and the latter manages to get a strong whiff of the knight’s odor. Santaura orders Trackenslash to find and destroy Tarrick, sending Slyther and Mucus to supervise the Sporix Beast. As for Wreckmate, he is busy working on a new project for Santaura.
In Pine Ridge, Tarrick hides amongst the civilians in everyday clothing, so Santaura and the others do not recognize him. He makes his way to BuzzBlast and sends in a small drone to spy on the Rangers from the inside. Tarrick overhears the Rangers discussing about him and wondering if they could trust him. Most of the Rangers wonder if Tarrick is on their side now, but Zayto suspects it could be another trick and does not believe the former can change after all the pain he inflicted on Pine Ridge. The conversation ends when Amelia sees Jane limping into the office, though the latter pretends that she is not.
Afterwards, Jane announces a big milestone for BuzzBlast as she plans to reach 10 million subscribers by the end of the day. J-Borg sets up a memory footage scene of the past videos they have done but she accidentally shows Jane tripping while trying to dance, hence why she limped into the office. Suddenly, the clip turns off, but J-Borg says she did not turn it off. The screen switches to a mysterious person wearing a clown mask, making Jane realize that they have been hacked. The hacker makes jokes that nobody but Aiyon finds funny, and says they have control of the BuzzBlast livestream after finding a security flaw. The hacker says they will end the hack after getting their own show on the site. Jane orders someone to get the system back online, but the main IT guy says they are locked out. With the livestream locked out, Jane refuses to negotiate with the hacker and orders everyone to find them. While Aiyon does not see what the big deal is, Amelia and Javi remind him that Jane wants to reach 10 million subscribers, and their jobs are at risk.
Before the Rangers can start looking for the hacker, Solon contacts them and warns them about a Sporix Beast heading towards BuzzBlast. Tarrick overhears the call and realizes that Santaura is after him before running away and turning off the drone. Trackenslash smells Tarrick’s presence, but before getting any closer, the Rangers confront the Sporix Beast. Slyther tells the Rangers they are only focused on finding Tarrick, but Zayto thinks it’s a ruse and leads the team in the morph. Seeing there was no way out of it, Slyther as Trackenslash and Mucus fight against the Rangers. Trackenslash overwhelms the Rangers, even matching Izzy’s Sprint Key and deflecting Aiyon’s electric attacks. Then, Santaura contacts Slyther and tells him to stop fighting the Rangers and focus on taking out Tarrick. Slyther obeys Santaura and has Trackenslash and Mucus leave with him. The Rangers get back on their feet and go back to Dinohenge for more answers.
As they see the hacker continue their poor jokes, the Rangers know they have to stop Trackenslash and stop the hacker. Izzy notices something in the hacker’s video and sees that they are at the fountain where she has trained before. Going to the fountain, the Rangers split up to search for clues. Aiyon finds a fallen trashcan and stops to pick up the trash. A young girl riding a bicycle finds him doing it. She makes some jokes which makes Aiyon laugh, but he realizes that they sound familiar. As they shake hands, Aiyon’s telepathy kicks in and he realizes that the girl, named Mara, was the hacker all along. Mara is forced to admit she was the hacker, and explains that she wants to be on BuzzBlast and have her own show. Since she knew they would reject her due to her age, Mara hacked the livestream, hoping that BuzzBlast would cave in to her terms. In response, Aiyon detaches the front wheel of Mara’s bike, saying he will give it back to her if she unfreezes the stream. Mara begs Aiyon to return the wheel as it was not his, but the latter retorts that the livestream was not hers either. Putting the wheel back on the bikie, Aiyon tells Mara it was not too late to do the right thing, and she should not waste her talents on hacking.
Meanwhile, Trankenslash follows Tarrick's scent and attacks what he thinks is Void Knight. However, the real Tarrick kicks Trankenslash and sends the victim away. As the victim calls the Ranger Hotline, Tarrick teleports away. The Rangers teleport down and confront Trackenslash as the latter summons the Hengemen. The Rangers fight Trackenslash, but the latter still proves to be powerful even when they use the Boost Keys to heighten their power. Zayto activates the Smash Battle Armor, but that is not enough to best Trackenslash.
Meanwhile, Mara goes to BuzzBlast and confesses to Jane that she is the hacker. However, Mara denies making the drone Jane and J-Borg found, inadvertently turning it on for Tarrick to see. Jane scolds Mara for causing such a big mess, but the latter promises to undo the hacking and add in a code to prevent anyone else from hacking the livestream. The IT guy tells Jane that the Rangers are losing to Trackenslash, making Tarrick realize what must be done.
Trackenslash continues to overwhelm the Rangers until Tarrick arrives in his Void Knight armor. Mixed feelings are brought in as Zayto asks Tarrick if he was on their side for real. Tarrick says that Trackenslash’s forcefield can deflect close-range attacks, but he decides to use his Void Slash to cause an energy strike. The attack shatters Trackenslash’s blades as Zayto defeats the Sporix Beast with a Smash Blast. After Trackenslash goes back to his Sporix Cell form, Zayto claims it as the Rangers order Tarrick to stay away from them. Tarrick argues that he is trying to help them as he does not care about the Sporix anymore. To prove that, Zayto tells Tarrick to return all the Sporix he stole, something the latter promises to try.
Back at BuzzBlast, the livestream is back online thanks to Mara, and Jane suggests that she auditions for the next episode of BuzzBlast Laughs. As the Rangers return to the office, Aiyon is happy to see Mara did the right thing. However, there is still the matter of the 10 million subscriber goal as the hacking incident waste a whole day. Fortunately, Jane has a solution. She decides to do a one-woman dance for the livestream, which garners enough subscribers to reach the goal.

- Jane's save of her embarrassing accident by mentioning that she has a twin sister from New Zealand can be a reference to the country where Power Rangers Dino Fury was filmed, as well as the entire main Power Rangers series since 2003, and/or a reference to Episode 4 of Power Rangers Dino Thunder, "Legacy of Power", where Conner McKnight mentions his twin brother, Eric McKnight, as he was played by the same actor.
- Jane manages to get BuzzBlast to 10 million subscribers by live-streaming a one-woman tap dance number; her actress Kira Josephson actually is a professional tap dancer; the routine was choreographed by Olivia Tennet, who in addition to previously portraying Doctor K in Power Rangers RPM is a dancer and choreographer who had previously choreographed a dance number for Power Rangers Beast Morphers.
- Void Knight's "Void Slash" Attack background is similar to other attacks like Ripcon's "Doom Slash" which is seen in the Ninja Steel episode "Gold Rush"
- Amelia’s Coulrophobia (fear of clowns) is mentioned again since Old Foes.
