Seiju Sentai Gingaman (星獣戦隊ギンガマン Seijū Sentai Gingaman) is the 22nd production of the Super Sentai television series. it joined Tetsuwan Tantei RobotackIcon-crosswiki. Its footage has been used in the American series Power Rangers Lost Galaxy. On July 22, 2017, it was announced that Shout! Factory has licensed Gingaman for distribution in North America.[1] It was released on January 30, 2018. This is the 7th Super Sentai series released on Region 1 DVD in North America.

The average ratings of the series was 7.9%.[2]

The main theme for Seiju Sentai Gingaman uses various motifs of classical elements, such as pirates (for the main antagonists), horsemen, legendary elements (knights, warriors, etc.), and elements found in the older Sentai shows from the '70s and '80s.

3,000 years ago, the Barban space pirates invaded Earth. The Starbeasts and the first Gingaman, warriors of the Ginga Forest, fought them with the mystical power called Earth and eventually were able to imprison them. Subsequently, the Ginga people cloaked their forest within boundaries and passed on the duty of Ginga warriors through generations.

Hyuga, Hayate, Gouki, Hikaru and Saya are chosen as the 133rd generation of warriors of the Starbeast Swords. Ryoma is very happy that his elder brother Hyuga succeeds to the honorable title. While Elder Orghi holds the succession ceremony of the Starbeast Swords, an earthquake breaks the seal of Barban.

Orghi orders the 133rd generation of warriors to get the GingaBraces hidden in Roaring Mountain. However, the Barban attacks them to prevent the birth of the new Gingaman. During the battle, Hyuga gets shallowed into a crack in the ground which Captain Zahab of the Barban created. Becoming enraged, Ryoma activates his Earth power and awakens the GingaBraces. The Gingaman fight together with the Starbeasts against the Barban, who desire to revive the Demon Beast Daitanix, on whose "corpse" they built their castle.

While only the second Sentai to use an episode count after Ohranger, this is the first to use a special nomenclature for the episodes, in this case having them called "Chapters". From this series, all Sentai, including those without nomenclatures for episode names, will have an episode count as part of their name.

All episode titles are a combination of two nouns in Japanese, connected by the Japanese character "no", where the first noun affects the second in the title.

  • Gingaman was aired in Japan on TV Asahi from February 22nd, 1998 to February 14th, 1999, airing every Sunday at 7:30 am.[3]
  • In the Philippines, it was aired on ABS-CBN in 2000 as the Power Rangers adaptation Lost Galaxy with a Tagalog dub.[Citation needed]
  • In Thailand, the series was given a Thai dub in 2001 and TIGA Company had the rights to it, despite Power Rangers Lost Galaxy was aired there. They were prioritized to release the series on VHS and VCD after they lost the rights to Mirai Sentai Timeranger during that time as it went to Rose Home Entertainment (formerly Rose Video), so they released this series instead.[Citation needed]
  • The series aired in Hong Kong with a Cantonese Chinese dub from December 16, 2001 until November 24, 2002 on TVB Jade with all 50 episodes dubbed.[Citation needed]
  • In Indonesia, the series aired with an Indonesian dub on Indosiar under the name Cosmic Ranger in 2006. Despite the popularity of Power Rangers in that country, this was the very last Super Sentai series to be released and dubbed in full for the region until Uchu Sentai Kyuranger made its debut in 2019 there with a full dub.[Citation needed]

  • Gingaman is the last Sentai season to feature "-man" in the title.
  • Originally, Gingaman was planned to be called "Seiju Sentai Gaoranger". However, due to animation company Sunrise releasing Yuusha-Oh GaoGaiGar at the same time, Toei felt that they could be sued for the similar name and premise; therefore, the name of the series changed. Gaoranger would ultimately be the name of the 2001 Sentai and would feature a homage to GaoGaiGar in the form of GaoKing.
    • It was also at one point going to be called Seiju Sentai Bioranger, though this was scrapped due to it sounding too similar to Bioman.[5]
  • This is the first Super Sentai series to change the episode title from "Ep" to "Chapter".
  • In the English version of the opening theme, the series name is translated as Galactic Warriors Gingaman.
  • The initial airing of this series retconned Choriki Sentai Ohranger taking place in its year of broadcast instead of 1999, as the next season, GoGoFive, would take place in the year 1999.
  • Gingaman was the last Sentai Season to have illustrated/anime eyecatches before and after the commercial break.
  • Gingaman is the last Sentai Shigenori Takatera would be producer for.
