Samuel "Sam" is an S.P.D. cadet with latent teleportation powers who, as a child in 2025, was rescued by Z Delgado and recruited into S.P.D., later growing up to become the S.P.D. Omega Ranger from the year 2040 who returned to the past to aid the B-Squad Rangers against Emperor Gruumm.

Quick Answers

What event led to Sam becoming the Omega Ranger in S.P.D.? toggle section
On July 11, 2025, the S.P.D. was foreseen to succumb to the Troobian Empire. To prevent this, Sam was given the Omega Ranger powers and sent back in time to stop Morgana from annihilating the Rangers. The remaining S.P.D. members developed the Omega Ranger technology for this purpose.

Who manipulated Sam when he was a child in the S.P.D. series? toggle section
In his childhood, Sam from the S.P.D. series was exploited by villains Mora and Bugglesworth. His quest for companionship made him an easy target. Despite this, his potential was spotted, leading to his recruitment into S.P.D.

What role does Sam play in the defeat of Emperor Gruumm? toggle section
Sam, known as the Omega Ranger, plays a pivotal role in the battle against Emperor Gruumm. He commands the cadets in combat against the invading forces, even when outnumbered by Broodwing's army. This strategic move provides Kat and Boom the opportunity to secure the Command Room. Concurrently, Emperor Gruumm is distracted by his personal rivalry with Cruger, a matter of indifference to Omni who is intent on finalizing the Magnificence.

Why is Sam only able to appear in Omega Ranger form or as a ball of light? toggle section
In Power Rangers S.P.D., Sam's physical manifestation is limited to the Omega Ranger form or a glowing orb of light due to time travel. Recruited as an S.P.D. cadet, he journeyed back in time from the future to aid the B-Squad Rangers. This temporal shift altered his body, making him one of the few Rangers without a morphing sequence.

Early Life

In 2001, Sam's parents, along with the parents of the B-Squad Rangers, worked with Kat Manx in developing the morphing technology used in the S.P.D. Morphers. However, these experiments had side effects that, while they did not affect Kat, they did affect the B-Squad parents, mutating their offspring and resulting in the B-Squad Power Rangers and Sam receiving their civilian superpowers. Though most of the offspring who were born to the participants in this project were adults by 2025, Sam was the last born and still a child at the time he is first seen.

For his civilian power, Sam developed the ability to teleport objects, even himself. His powers were misunderstood by other children, however, and he was ostracized. His desperate search for friends led him to be manipulated by Mora and her newest creation Bugglesworth, who turned people into dolls for Mora to collect. While the other Rangers were quick to judge Sam poorly, Z realized that Sam was not evil and just wanted to fit in and have friends. Although it took a lot of convincing, Sam eventually agreed to stay with his new friend and the other Rangers at the S.P.D. Academy (who gave him a bike) and told them that he will train to become a Power Ranger someday. Tvicon TV STORY-Sam (episode)

Future

In this bleak future, Sam gains the Omega Ranger powers and travels back to 2025 to stop Morgana from destroying the Rangers and eventually S.P.D., thus preventing the disaster that had befallen his world. However, passing through the time warp has heavily altered his human form, reducing him to a floating orb of pure energy. Due to this setback, his only remotely human form is his Ranger form. As Kat Manx works to find a way to send him back to the future, he assists the B-Squad Rangers in their battle to save Earth.

Omega joined the B-Squad to prevent Emperor Gruumm's invasion and brings with him a powerful array of futuristic equipment including the Uniforce Cycle, a Zord known as the Omegamax Cycle and the Omega Morpher, which allows him to perform various feats including temporal manipulation (Hyper Mode), strength increase (Muscle Mode), and Judgement Mode. His suit brandishes the Roman Numeral for six,"VI". Because of his true identity, he is also capable of the genetic power of teleportation. Tvicon TV STORY-Messenger

Emperor Mavro was defeated, but the remaining thousands of X Borgs still stand. Tommy gathered all the existing Power Rangers, Sam now as a teenager, returns with his fellow S.P.D. Rangers (possibly after he was informed of his future self and recreated the Omega Ranger powers) as part of the army of Legendary Rangers that helped the Mega Rangers defeat the Armada once and for all, fighting in a huge battle against hundreds of X Borgs and dozens of Bruisers. After the demise of the X Borgs, Tommy shook hands with Troy and teleported off along with Sam and the Legendary Rangers. He then returns to the future in the year 2034. The Omega Ranger is not present in the crowd of Legendary Rangers used for original footage in Legendary Battle. He does, however, appear in the Sentai footage due to his counterpart indeed fighting in the Legend War.

Personality

In 2025, Sam is best described as an outsider, often feeling as if he does not have a role to play while also being bullied for his unusual ability to teleport any object he can focus on. For this reason, he walls himself off from other people and initially expresses disinterest in what others have to say. However, below the surface, Sam longs to fit in and be accepted as well as not to be seen as a freak. Mora is, however, able to exploit Sam's desperation and briefly use him to accomplish her ends. Z coming from a similar place in life seems to resonate with him and eventually breaks Mora's hold over him, allowing her to bring Sam to SPD for its junior cadet program. It is assumed that while Sam is a cadet, he develops a strong sense of justice and right over wrong that carries with him into adulthood and a career as an SPD officer.

Despite his time-displacement predicament, Sam is more light-hearted and a bit of a prankster among his teammates, yet committed to his duties as an officer and willing to assist those he finds in need.

  • Omega (Ω, ω) is the twenty-fourth and last letter of the Greek alphabet, here used to represent the final element in a set or series. Until the introduction of the Nova Ranger, Sam was thought to be the last Ranger alive in the alternate 2040 when the Troobians conquered Earth.

Notes

  • In the Japanese dub of Power Rangers S.P.D., Sam is voiced by Tomokazu Yoshida, the actor of his Sentai counterpart, Tekkan Aira (DekaBreak).
  • Bandai released an action figure of Omega Ranger in S.W.A.T. Mode and can still be seen in the toy section of Ranger Central.
  • During the searches he is called Samuel Tvicon TV STORY-Sam (episode)
  • Although he's officially a Sixth Ranger, Sam is the seventh Ranger to join the team.
  • Due to his time traveling, it rendered his being into light energy, and is only able to appear as either a ball of light, or entirely morphed. As a result, Sam is one of the few Rangers to not have a morphing sequence.
