"Alter Change!"

The Ryuko no Geki ((リュウ)()()(ゲキ) Ryūkonogeki) or Ryuko Halberd is the main transformation device and sidearm of Don Doragoku and Don Torabolt.[1]

History[]

to be added

Functionality[]

The Ryuko no Geki is Don Doragoku/Don Torabolt's personal weapon and transformation device. It has two forms, a Spear Mode (矛モード Hoko Mōdo) and an Axe Mode (アックスモード Akkusu Mōdo).

Transformation[]

"Dora! Dora! Dragon![2] (ドラ! ドラ! ドラゴン! Dora! Dora! Doragon!)"
―Transformation standby announcement in Spear Mode[src]

"(traditional/techno music remix) Chou Ichiryu! Achō![2] (超一龍! アチョー! Chō Ichiryu! Achō!)"
―Transformation announcement in Spear Mode[src]

"Ti! Ti! Tiger![3] (タイ! タイ! タイガー! Tai! Tai! Taigā!)"
―Transformation standby announcement in Axe Mode[src]

"(traditional music) Ex-Tora! Hoachō![2] (エクストラ! ホアチョー! Ekusutora! Hoachō!)"
―Transformation announcement in Spear Mode[src]

To initiate a transformation, Jiro first inserts his respective Avataro Gear onto the weapon. He then presses the trigger, initiating the transformation. After transforming, Jiro can convert the Ryuko no Geki into axe mode and use the Don Torabolt Avataro Gear to switch to Dangerous Jiro, though the two mostly switch on a whim simply based on emotional triggers without using this method.

Special Attacks[]

Combination[]

"(Parry Time!) Dai Gattai!"

"Dai Gattai! Netsuretsu Kangei! Dai Gattai! Netsuretsu Kangei!"
―Combination standby announcement[src]

"Kansei! Toradora Onitaijin!"

To combine into Toradora Onitaijin, Jiro scans the Ryuko no Geki on one of the Donblasters, then pulls the trigger, initiating the combination.

Finishing Strike[]

To perform a finishing attack, Don Dragoku/Don Torabolt holds the trigger to initiate a standby sequence before pulling the trigger again to initiate the attack.

Behind the Scenes[]

Portrayal[]

Notes[]

  • The Ryuko no Geki's Spear Mode design is based on the Guandao, the glaive of Guan Yu, the legendary general who went on to be revered as the God of War; while the Axe Mode closely resembles the Qinglong Ji, a form of halberd.
  • The post-finisher announcement is derived from the Chinese word 再见 (Zàijiàn) meaning "Goodbye".
  • The "Extra" (エクストラ Ekusutora) portion of Don Torabolt's transformation announcement is a pun on how the Japanese pronunciation of the word contains "Tora" (), which means "tiger".
  • When used with certain Sentai/Avataro Gears, the finisher sound changes to that of a previous item.
