Rock Out[1] is the fifth episode of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. It features the debut of the Cosmic Dragon Zord.
Synopsis[]
When Bajillia discovers a long-lost Zord on a mining planet, the Rangers must create a musical distraction to stop her from using it as a war weapon.[2]
Plot[]
On Erridus, the newly re-blessed Cosmic Fury Rangers are watching a BuzzBlast news-stream where Jane and J-Borg are spying on one of Lord Zedd's prisons in Pine Ridge, but are discovered by Zentinels before the camera feed cuts out. Reeling from the news of the invasion on Earth and the multiple Ranger teams being imprisoned, the Rangers feel terrible for leaving the Earth unprotected, but Zayto assures them that teleporting away was the right decision, as their team is still free.
As the team continue to kick various ideas around for when they are ready for their , the silence around them is shattered by the clanking of pots and pans. As the team scrambles to find the source of this ear-splitting cacophony, they see Javi having made a drum set out of Aiyon's prized cookware and singing a song about he hates Lord Zedd. Aiyon and Izzy are both annoyed by it, and Amelia tells him that it's kind of hard to think with all that racket, but Fern tells Javi that she liked it, as she took drum classes until the 10th grade, with Javi thanking her and pleased that he is finally getting the hang of his cybernetic arm.
Suddenly, Solon's communicator goes off, saying that it's a news report from their friend Mick. She plays it on the monitor and it displays an intergalactic news-stream that shows Bajillia Naire and Scrozzle visiting a mining colony on planet Akraal and find out that Squid Ink Inc. have unearthed a powerful weapon: a giant Dragon Zord, which could allow her forces to wreak havoc on the entire universe. Wondering how a Zord ended up on a random mining planet, Billy remembers that the Alter back on Zordnia had 11 carvings, and one of them looked like that dragon, meaning it's a Cosmic Fury Zord that must have been separated from the rest of the fleet. With the threat of Lord Zedd still looming large, the Rangers know that need to stop them. Amelia brings up that something about this does not feel right, as it could be a trap set by Ollie to draw them out, but Zayto points out that they can't let Zedd's forces have that Zord, and deduces that he could use the Morphin Master Staff to activate it, but the Rangers are against it as he can't do it alone. The Rangers are left scratching their heads to come up with a plan to reclaim the Zord without being discovered. During the feed, the alien interviewer unknowingly blurted out that a concert is to be held at the mining colony, and so the Rangers brainstorm a plan to sneak into the colony and retrieve the Zord without Ollie or Zedd's forces discovering them.
Javi starts playing again and is ordered to stop, but it gives Javi a plan; he suggests that the Rangers form a metal band, which confuses the team. Fern understands what Javi is saying and remembers that the interviewer said the monsters like music and proposes that the Rangers go undercover to the mining colony as a metal band to secretly claim the new Zord. Javi is ecstatic that Fern is on his same wavelength, but Zayto points out that Ollie would easily recognize them, but Javi suggests that they use Solon's old arts and crafts projects to disguise themselves as monsters. However, Aiyon points out that if the all five Rangers were a part of this band, Ollie could figure out that it is them and deduce that they would go for the Zord. So, Fern volunteers herself to even the numbers so that Zayto can go after the Zord undetected, but Izzy is none too pleased with her girlfriend potentially putting herself in harm's way on a planet full of dangerous monsters. But with Fern and Javi being the only ones having musical aptitude, the Rangers need her for this plan to work. Although she is against this, Izzy agrees that Fern is right as Fern kisses Izzy's cheek. So, while Javi and Fern teach the Rangers how to play instruments for their plan, Billy and Solon stay behind on Erridus to continue working on the Cosmic Cruiser.
Amelia, Izzy, Javi, Aiyon, and Fern arrive on Akraal in their monster disguises and manage to sneak past a troupe of dim-witted guards under the band name "Meat Chrome", where they tell them that Bajillia hired them to play a concert as a reward to her workers for finding the Zord. After being let in and setting up their instruments, the Rangers begin their jam session distraction by singing an altered version of Javi's song, which then draws the attention of several miners wanting time off to enjoy the free music, while a hooded Zayto is seen walking through the crowd unnoticed.
Meanwhile, Ollie and Scrozzle are on the surface of Akraal in a tent, with the evil Ranger being aggravated that Bajillia bragged about her find on intergalactic TV and is growing increasingly frustrated that she's relaxing in her Squidrill while he's doing grunt work when he knows the Rangers could show up to steal the Zord right out from under the villains' noses, but Scrozzle reassures Ollie otherwise. When one of their workers asks Ollie and Scrozzle if he could attend Bajillia's free concert, Ollie grows suspicious and goes outside to inspect the situation. He counts heads on the stage, and as predicted, figures out that it's the Rangers in disguise, while Zayto secretly slips away and goes for the Zord. He pulls off Izzy's mask, and yells that the Rangers are here and orders Zentinels to appear. After morphing into the Dark Fury Ranger, Ollie shows his former friends a brand new weapon Scrozzle made for him: the Tricera Blaster. After Izzy, Javi, and Aiyon taunt him about his new weapon, he fires at them and misses. After telling Fern to hide, the Rangers morph and a battle ensues between the Rangers, Ollie, and the monster workers.
Izzy and Ollie engage in a fight, with Izzy taunting Ollie again for not landing a single shot on her. Suddenly, Ollie notices Fern hiding, but deduces that it's Zayto. Izzy attempts to distract him and keep her away from her girlfriend, but Ollie shoves her out of the way and into some Zentinels. Ollie points his weapon at Fern and removes her mask, revealing it's Fern before he realizes that Zayto has gone for the Zord. He then fires at Fern, but she is nicked in the ensuing scuffle, which worries Izzy, but Fern assures her that she's okay.
In the tent, Zayto is using the Morphin Master Staff to activate the Cosmic Dragon Zord, while Scrozzle is tied up. Ollie teleports in and orders Zayto to get away from the Zord, but he tells his corrupted friend that he's too late and teleports into the Zord's cockpit and activates it. Bajillia arrives on scene just as the Zord takes off, but not before Ollie sticks a tracker on it. Bajillia nonetheless orders a pair of Copyguards to go after the Zayto and the Cosmic Dragon Zord to take it back and for someone to dig up Scrozzle. In space, Zayto notices the giant Copyguards and blasts them both with a Cosmic Dragon Fire attack. After dealing with the rest of the monsters, Fern jokes to Izzy that she was hurt badly, but is kidding and tells her that the blast just nicked a hole in her clothes, much to Izzy's worry and annoyance about her joke, with Javi and Aiyon finding it funny, but not before Amelia tells them that they need to help Zayto.
The Rangers take off in their Zords to help Zayto (with Amelia in the Cosmic Lion Zord, Izzy in the Cosmic Chameleo Zord, Javi in the Cosmic Bull Zord, and Aiyon in the Cosmic Shark Zord), with Izzy taking Fern to keep an eye on her. After Zayto constricting one of the Copyguards, Zayto finishes the other with a Cosmic Dragon Charge attack. Suddenly, Bajillia's Squidrill shows up in its Battle Mode, just as the others arrive in the Cosmic Fury Megazord. Izzy tells Fern to not touch any buttons, but she accidentally leans on a panel of Izzy's Zord that remotely summons the Cosmic Wolf Zord, which tilts the battle to the Rangers. Seeing that she's not going to win, Bajillia teleports away, leaving some Zentinels behind who complain about her bailing, as the Rangers combine the Megazord's Cosmic Mega Bolt and the Dragon Zord's Cosmic Blast attacks to destroy the Squidrill. As the Rangers fly back to their base in victory, they sing Javi's Lord Zedd song with its original lyrics.
Meanwhile, back at the base, the team tell Billy and Solon about their successful mission, with Izzy reminding Fern that Ollie almost blasted her, but Fern remarks that her being there allowed for the plan to succeed. Billy and Solon inform the team that they finished the ship and are ready to test their engines, and that an encrypted message from Earth came in, from Tarrick, Amelia's dad back on Earth. Despite the good news that Amelia's baby sister is due soon, Tarrick informs the Rangers that most of the people in Pine Ridge have been imprisoned by Zedd's forces, including Izzy and Javi's parents. He also informs them that they're not in immediate danger, but he is worried about what Lord Zedd has planned for them. The Rafkonians have formed a resistance against Zedd's forces and are ready to fight back, and that they have a spy on the inside who heard that the Rangers escaped from Zedd and haven't returned because of the anti-Zord forcefield around the planet. The spy also informed them that all the Squidrills around the Earth project one part of the anti-Zord forcefield, meaning that if one goes down, the whole forcefield goes down too, which is a weakness they can exploit. Tarrick urges them to return soon so they can free Earth from Zedd's forces and to contact him when they can. Reeling from the news that their loved ones are in danger, Zayto suggests they give Tarrick a call while Solon asks for volunteers to help test the ship's engines.
Back on Eltar, Lord Zedd is angry at Bajillia and Scrozzle for allowing the Rangers to claim the Cosmic Dragon Zord from under their noses, with Scrozzle trying to defend himself that he was tied up and buried for hours. Zedd then wonders why Squillia is here and not on Earth with Omwhyzo, with her saying that her new crush suggested that she come and get some selfies with the Zord her mother found. She shows her mom a picture of him (who is a familiar face to viewers). Zedd angrily tells them to focus on finding the Rangers, when Ollie comes in with a monster, Jozotic and tells his master he found them. Thanks to the tracker he planted on the Cosmic Dragon Zord, he traced it back to Erridus, a planet that Jozotic knows is filled with Scuttleworms that destroyed his hunting bots, which makes Scrozzle uneasy as he teleports away and Squillia teleports back to Earth because she's bored and misses her crush. Bajillia offers to take Ollie and Jozotic to Erridus so she can reclaim "her Zord", while Ollie wishes to steal all of the Rangers' Cosmic Fury Zords once his former friends are destroyed. Pleased at the news, Zedd orders them to go to Erridus immediately and destroy the Rangers, with him laughing evilly as the scene ends.
