The Rhinoblaster was an American football-playing rhinoceros monster who served as the main antagonist of the episode "Football Season."

The Rhinoblaster was created by Finster after Rita noticed that it was football tryouts time in Angel Grove and she planned to destroy the Power Rangers using his football skills. The Rhinoblaster was to be Rita's quarterback in a football game to the destruction with the Rangers. Whilst he was being created, Goldar sent down a bunch of Putties to prepare them for the Rhinoblaster's attack. Once he had been completed, Rita sent him to Earth into the football fields outside of Angel Grove High. The Rhinoblaster was first seen on the Viewing Globe after Zordon sent for the Rangers and informed them that the monster was cunning and fast before sending them to attack the monster. Upon their arrival, the Rhinoblaster immediately summoned five members of the Putty Patrol in football jerseys to battle the Power Rangers. The Putties easily clotheslined and then cut down the five Power Rangers before he used his white mist to trap the Rangers in the vortex. However, Tommy had not been with them because he was training for the soccer tryouts with Ernie and thus remained at large. Zordon contacted him and he morphed at which point he easily took down the Football Putties, leaving just the Rhinoblaster standing. However, he was unfazed by the loss of his defence line so took on Tommy, managing to duck a swing kick and avoid several punches before grabbing his arm only to get double kicked down with a blow to the chest although he was unaffected.

With a stalemate developing, Rita then made him grow to gain the upper hand so Tommy summoned the Dragonzord. However, the Rhinoblaster was unafraid and the Dragonzord immediately smacked him in the face with it's tail but he didn't even stumble from it so he grappled with the Dragonzord only for it to break off. He then tried to ram it back only for it to be unfazed and knock him to one side. The Rhinoblaster then ducked it's tail and double punched it back. With the Dragonzord stunned, the monster prepared to suck Tommy into the Multidimensional Vortex and trap him forever but Zordon called Tommy and told him how to rescue his friends. He pretended to surrender to the Rhinoblaster but was taken down by a sword blast just because the monster was feeling sadistic before he tried to suck up Tommy. However, as the Rhinoblaster emitted his mist, Tommy threw the Dragon Dagger into the source of the mist and Jason caught it and set about getting free. In the meantime, Tommy was now unable to externally control the Dragonzord so entered the cockpit for only the second time although the Rhinoblaster still managed to completely wipe the floor with the Dragonzord before completely knocking it out of the fight with a devastating energy blast. However, through unexplained methods, the Dragon Dagger allowed the other Rangers to escape the vortex in thier Megazord which immediately jump punched him down. The Rangers then celebrated Tommy rescuing them but the Rhinoblaster recovered and demanded they fight him so they combined into the Mega Dragonzord, and launched its Z-sphere blast. Immediately after being hit by it, the Rhinoblaster yelled out as his legs fell from under him and he fell flat on his face before exploding. Tvicon.png TV STORY-Football Season

Trumpet Top summoned an illusionary Rhinoblaster to wear out the Power Rangers enough that Lord Zedd would easily be able to destroy them. After Zack threw the Grumble Bee off of a lifeguard tower, the Rhinoblaster charged up the steps. However, Zack grabbed him by the horn to stop the charge before kicking him down and pushed him down the stairs. Due to not really being there though, the Rhinoblaster alongside the Saliguana, the Fighting Flea, the Soccadillo, the Grumble Bee, the Mantis, the Stag Beetle and the Slippery Shark managed to "beat them" until they were worn out completely. However, Zordon saw through the plan, making the illusionary monsters cease to exist. Tvicon.png TV STORY-Orchestral Maneuvers in the Park

The Rhinoblaster was among the monsters recreated by Finster to ambush the Rangers at the Spectre Theatre. Rhinoblaster and Peckster were later selected to guard the Rangers in the Spectre Theater as Rita and Zedd got married. They failed miserably, as he and Peckster were ensnared in a net by the Rangers, leading to the Rangers' eventual escape. Peckster and Rhinoblaster in the Spectre Theater were not at all like their original menacing selves, but instead more like a monster version of Bulk and Skull. What happened to them from then on is unclear as they weren't involved in the Thunderzord battle although one can presume that they're probably destroyed off-screen for their failure or perhaps the Peckster and the Rhinoblaster could have gone into hiding for fear of being destroyed for their failure. However, the fact that the Rhinoblaster showed up again later independently of the Evil Space Aliens suggests the latter. Tvicon.png TV STORY-The Wedding

The Rhinoblaster was last seen among the monsters seen in the Shadow World. How he ended up there is unclear since he was last seen very much alive but it was likely the ghost of the version destroyed in "Football Season." Tvicon.png TV STORY-The Fate Of Lightspeed

The Rhinoblaster was a ruthless and cold monster that will do anything in his power to destroy the Rangers, though despite this, he's quick on his feet and very clever. During battle, the Rhinoblaster was a brawler and liked to wrestle with his enemy and overwhelm them with his pure strength and only used his ranged attacks as a finishing attack. During his return in "The Wedding," he became far more jokey and acted as comedy relief although he retained both his serious-when-it-needs-to-be attitude and intense loyalty to Rita and Zedd.

Powers and abilities

  • Strength:The Rhinoblaster knocked back the Dragonzord with single punches and slashes of his sword.
  • Putty Summoning:The Rhinoblaster could summon an army of Putties dressed in football player outfits to aid him in battle.
  • Dimensional Transportation:The Rhinoblaster could emit a white mist from his mouth that would trap enemies in a pocket dimension known as the "multidimensional vortex."
  • Forehead Horn Lightning Beam:The Rhinoblaster could fire orange lightning beams from the horn located in the middle of his forehead. This was his most powerful attack since a single blast completely defeated the Dragonzord and ejected Tommy.

  • Curved Sword: The Rhinoblaster could use a curved sword to aid him in combat
    • Lightning Beams:The Rhinoblaster could gesture his curved sword to his nose and point it forth to fire light pink lightning beams from the tip. This caused a massive explosion and sent Tommy flying.

Behind The Scenes

  • The Rhinoblaster comes from what is commonly referred to as "Zyu2" footage, and was not seen in the original Zyuranger.
    • The Rhinoblaster was originally meant to be destroyed by the Ultrazord as evidenced by a massive explosion superimposed over his face. This was likely changed due to time.
      • As a result of this change, the Weaveworm monster from "A Star is Born" can be seen right before he's destroyed to remove the lasers hitting him.
        • Additionally, as a result of this change, the Rhinoblaster was the only monster it destroyed that exploded in a traditional way since it only destroyed three monsters and both Mutitus and the Weaveworm were vaporized by the attack instead of the Rhinoblaster's traditional explosion.
  • The reason that the Rhinoblaster and Peckster weren't in the Zord fight from "The Wedding" was because both of their footage involved the city whereas the monsters actually used in the Zord fight were in the countryside and (in the case of the Rhinoblaster) all of the footage of fighting and blasting involving the Dragonzord (and thus couldn't be used in the shot-reverse-shot editing of that Zord fight).
  • It is unknown why the Rhinoblaster wasn't in "Countdown to Destruction" although one can assume he was either seen as too useless/pathetic to be used or he had escaped into hiding after the events of "The Wedding."
    • In a meta sense however, it is unclear why they didn't include his suit at all since it clearly didn't fall apart like the Peckster's presumably did given his suit made two returns five years after "The Wedding."
  • The Rhinoblaster is one of only two Zyu2 monsters to have more screen-time in a return appearance than in their return, the other being the Pumpkin Rapper four episodes before.
    • The Rhinoblaster lasted five minutes in the episode, debuting at twelve and a half minutes into the episode (not counting a shot on the Viewing Globe) and died at seventeen minutes and forty five seconds. During "The Wedding," he appeared for a combined eleven minutes.
  • Back in early 2003, shortly after the series changed hands from Saban Entertainment to Disney, some of the monster costumes, including Rhinoblaster, were auctioned off by ABC Auctions. It sold for $480.
