This article is about a Ranger in Chojin Sentai Jetman. |
- "Yellow Owl!"
- ―Yellow Owl's roll call[src]
Raita Oishi (大石 雷太 Ōishi Raita) is Yellow Owl (イエローオウル Ierō Ōru) of the Jetmen.
History[]
Jetman[]
In his youth, Raita was raised by his grandmother. He was afraid of tomatoes and often had nightmares about an evil tomato overlord. As he grew up, however, he forgot about this fear.
He had a childhood friend, Satsuki, who supported him when he took part in mud racing competitions at home.
A vegetable farmer as an adult, Raita was the first male civilian to be struck by the yellow lightning coming from the Birdonic Wave Machine in the destroyed Skyforce Earth Ship. TV STORY-Ep. 1: Seek the Warriors. The second civilian member to be found by Commander Aya Odagiri, he initially did not want to join the team, but when the Grinam Soldiers trampled on his vegetables and ruined his farm, Raita resolved to fight, agreeing to become a Jetman. He did well enough as a pilot and passed his training course without too much difficulty.
Since Raita had not had any prior experience as a warrior, Commander Aya coached him and the female Jetmen in martial arts. Occasionally, the women tricked him into doing their work for them without his knowledge.
At one point, Raita met Satsuki again, but noted that she had changed a lot compared to the girl he used to know. This made him unhappy, as the person he liked was plain and sincere, unlike the fancy cover she had made for herself. Satsuki ran away from him only to fall victim to Fashion Dimension's mind control. The Jetmen attempted to rescue her, but Raita insisted on doing so alone and succeeded in freeing her from the monster. The two reconciled as Raita saw her off at a train station, not knowing that his friend had already deduced his identity as Yellow Owl. TV STORY-Ep. 9: Muddy Love
As the team fought against Vyram together, Raita also developed feelings for Kaori Rokumeikan, but he chose to not pursue her. Unlike Gai Yuki, he largely kept his affection to himself, choosing to only protect her in times of need, instead. Despite this, he did have to clash with Ryu and Gai, when the two's tension got out of hand regarding Kaori.
When he was sent back to the past by Space-Time Mammoth, he met a cavewoman who looked identical to Kaori. Raita quickly taught her and her people how to farm, quickly gaining status among them. The cavewoman was also smitten with him, but he still had to return to the modern day to help his friends destroy the monster. TV STORY-Ep. 26: I'm a Primitive
His fear of tomatoes was made manifest by Emperor Tranza, resulting in the creation of Great Tomato King. Ako Hayasaka had to personally support him to snap him out of his fear so that the Jetmen could defeat the monster. TV STORY-Ep. 46: The Great Demon King of the Tomato Field
After the fall of Vyram, Raita resumed working as a farmer, eventually marrying Satsuki. The two attended Ryu and Kaori's wedding, wishing them the best of things. TV STORY-Final Ep.: Flap Your Wings! Aviators!
Imitations[]
A copy of Yellow Owl was created as part of the Shadow Jetman. Light Armadillo created these evil Jetmen from their shadows, as they grew stronger, the real Jetmen grew weaker. Maria created a forcefield of light over the city at night to create daylight so the Shadow Jetman could destroy the city. There were only four, as Gai Yuki was not there when the copies were made. Gai shot Maria so the light field went away, the Shadow selves vanished and the Jetman defeated Light Armadillo. TV STORY-Ep. 25: The Laughing Shadow-People
Epilogue Manga[]
In the non-canon Epilogue Manga set five years after the final battle, Raita and his childhood friend Satsuki have married and Satsuki is now pregnant. Raita and Satsuki decided to call the child they knew was a boy, Gai. {ComicStorylink|Chojin Sentai Jetman: Toki wo Kakete}}

Gokaiger[]
Legend War[]
Years later, Raita fought alongside not only his own team, but every single Sentai Ranger in existence, against the Empire of Zangyack when it attacked the Earth in the Great Legend War. After fighting against hundreds of Gormin and their Sugormin commanders, Akarenger noticed the fleet moving towards them. He gathered all the Rangers together and gave them the order to sacrifice their powers to wipe out the first invasion's armada. The Yellow Owl powers are later used by Luka Millfy via the Ranger Keys. TV STORY-Ep. 1: The Space Pirates Appear MOVIE STORY-Gokaiger Goseiger Super Sentai 199 Hero Great Battle
Although not seen in person, Raita is mentioned in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger's "Wings of Eternal" by Gai Ikari, stating that he has taken his produce farm online and has become rich as a result. Several of his vegetables are seen by the grave of Gai Yuki when the Gokaigers visit it.
Farewell Space Pirates[]
After the Zangyack's final defeat, Marvelous returned the Ranger Keys to their original owners. It is assumed Raita and his teammates have their powers once again. TV STORY-Final Ep.: Farewell Space Pirates
Akibaranger[]
Yellow Owl appears as part of the five-man Jetman team alongside the other two Inordinate Sentai, Dekaranger and Boukenger, in Season Tsuu's alternate take on the events of the first season. Super Hero Taisen[]

Raita joined the Super Sentai Strongest Battle as a member of Super Strong Team, where he partnered with Bouken Yellow and GingBlue and fought in a three-way match against Great Sword Man Zubaan, Gosei Knight and Go-On Gold of Gilded Team in the third round of the competition and won the match. However, his team was eliminated after losing the fourth round against the Martial Artist Team.

Personality[]
He is a very strong person and a shoulder to cry on. At the same time, Raita tends to be self - deprecating, as he considers himself clumsy and socially inept. He harbours his affection for Kaori, believing that he stands little chance with her compared to his teammates Gai and Ryu. He is still a responsible member, though, not afraid to pull his weight when there is danger, particularly once Satsuki or his team is involved. In fact, when he has the chance to stay in the past with a girl who loves him genuinely, Raita refuses in order to help his team continue their battles against the Vyram.
Whenever Gai or Ryu act out of line towards Kaori, Raita is usually the one who stands up for her. Above all else, he wants her to be happy and protected as long as he is still with the Jetmen, even willing to confront his male comrades directly if required to.
Raita is a big eater, able to finish large meals in a short amount of time. He is even very proud of this, and will not stand anyone managing to eat more than he can. Raita's build belies his agility, as he is strong and can perform complex maneuvers with his team when fighting. One of his favoured tactics is to hurl large, heavy objects (usually rocks) at enemies, or throw the foes away themselves.
One thing that Raita cannot stand is affectation. He instead prefers simple, natural beauty, and is not at all impressed by Satsuki's attempts to present herself as sophisticated.
He likes looking after his crop while off-duty. His vegetables are quite tasty, which has been noted by several characters.

Legend Sentai Devices[]

- ―Mobilates' Gokai Change announcement[src]
The Yellow Owl Ranger Key (イエローアウルレンジャーキー Ierō Auru Renjā Kī) is Raita Oishi's personal Ranger Key and what became of his powers after he along with the rest of the 34 Super Sentai sacrificed their powers to end the Great Legend War.
This key along with the majority of the Ranger Keys were collected by the Red Pirates and later used by the Gokaigers. The Yellow Owl Ranger Key was mainly used by Luka Millfy (Gokai Yellow), who used it to fight as Yellow Owl.

- When the Gokaigers became the Jetmen in their fight with the bounty hunter Kiaido. TV STORY-Ep. 28: Wings are Eternal
The Jetman Keys, along with all the Ranger Keys of the first 33 Super Sentai, were briefly taken by the Black Cross King and turned into Ranger puppets that were fought by the Gokaigers and the Goseigers. Using their power of flight to disorient the two Sentai in the initial skirmish, they later split up, with the puppet Yellow Owl being defeated as part of a group of surviving Yellow warrior keys by Gokai Yellow and Super Gosei Yellow. MOVIE STORY-Gokaiger Goseiger Super Sentai 199 Hero Great Battle
After Zangyack were finally defeated, the Gokaigers gave the Ranger Keys back to their rightful owners. Raita received his key and became Yellow Owl once more. TV STORY-Final Ep.: Farewell Space Pirates
Usage[]
The Jetman Avataro Gear allows any of the Core Donbrothers to transform into their respective Jetman counterpart. It can be used by Haruka Kitou to transform into Yellow Owl.
Notes[]
- He is the first Ranger in the entire Sentai series to wear glasses regularly; the first to wear them at least part time is previous Yellow Ranger Jun Kiyama (DenziYellow), who wore them but only when doing scientific research.
- He is the first Sentai Ranger to have an owl motif.
- Raita is the only Jetman whose Gatchaman counterpart's mecha is not the same color as he is. In this case, Ryū Nakanishi's mecha is green as opposed to yellow. He's also the only Jetman to appear transformed in every episode.
- In the Philippine dub of the series Raita is voiced by Ed Belo, who previously voiced Fumiya Hoshikawa from Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman.
- In the Philippine dub, his Sentai form as Yellow Owl was renamed as JetYellow and his name was changed as Raymond Johnson.
