Plot[]
In the distant past, in a place called Frontier Lab on an unnamed planet in the A47 Galaxy, a man in a white armored suit is preparing for a test of an arch portal which will allow him to enter a dimensional space that creates a passage into Morphin Grid. While he is full of excitement about his journey, his companion Chendil expresses concern about the proceedings. He nevertheless enters the gate and begins taking readings, amazed how much energy there is, enough to even power entire inhabited worlds. His joy is short lived however, as he senses a presence inside with him and sees a demonic shadow looking at him and approaching the arch. The demon tries to escape and the explorer cries out to Chendil to shut down the arch. She says she can't as Grid Energy is overloading the controls on her end. Realizing he has no other options, he apologizes to Chendil and detonates the grid energy, sending the demon recoiling back in pain and shutting down the arch on his end. Chendil is horrified as she has no way of bringing him back since she doesn't know how to restart the arch on her end.
584 years later, the Lab has become a clubhouse of sorts as a young woman named Orinsoth is examining the ancient research notes dictated by a computer when her brother Kartor calls her about the time for the Ascension being moved up and she needs to be there before nightfall as that is when the last group is leaving. Ori promises she will be there but is doing some last minute preparations and hangs up on him. She then removes her Master Heart and uses it to try to activate the machine that powers the arch, but it fails to work and the feedback severs some of the power couplings. Ori leaves in defeat and takes her Master Heart with her.
At Masterforge Elepsis, Kartor is awaiting his sister as the people are evacuating from something. Vivali tells him that the previous Masterforge, Namize, had lost contact with them and had fallen. Elepsis is the last Masterforge standing and they can review the security footage of Namize later after evacuating the west quarter of the city. This is overheard by Rhian on an earpiece, who insists to her friend Phiro they need to investigate as she needs to know what happened to their friends and loved ones. They visit the home of Telosi, who is angry about the evacuation and upset his friend Xev hasn't contacted him. Rhian throws a stone at his window and tells him about the video of Namize, to which all three agree to visit Ori to see the footage.
Meanwhile, Ori has packed up and exits Frontier Lab, only to be startled by Aleia who is wondering why she is at their old childhood clubhouse. Aleia is concerned as Ori has been secretive and reclusive the past weeks, Ori hints she has seen something horrible. The rest of the group arrive and Rihan asks for Ori's help to confirm the events that until now was only vaguely stated by their elders as an emergency. Ori knows that Masterforge Halloch could not be contacted and is no longer on star charts, implying something is very wrong. Rihan wants answers as does everyone else, but before they can access the footage, the power to the lab goes out as energy is being diverted to the planet's main arch for the Ascension. Ori ask her friends to use their Master Hearts to power the computer as a backup generator. Ori explains her absence, she built the generator to try to power the Proto-Arch to see if she could get it to work. She was experimenting with Morphin Energy and her Heart to try and open the portal but failed. The computer turns on and Rihan hacks the security database, only to see in horror what happened to Namize. An unidentified alien force invaded the planet and when the inhabitants tried to evacuate, an army of demon like creatures emerged from the Namize arch and slaughtered them, with an evil shadow grinning at the massacre unfolding.
The young teens are horrified, questioning why the Morphin Masters would leave half of those people to die by shutting down the Namize Arch. Telosi is the most upset out of all of them as he saw Xev being attacked by those creatures. Rhian tries to rationalize the actions of the Masters, but Telosi reminds her that her sister is dead because of those things.
Once they all exit the Lab, they see meteors like the ones on Namize and the Master Arch is powered up for the evacuation. The five race to and reach the Arch, with Kartor berating his sister for being late. Before they can leave, a figure shoots out of the portal and crashes onto the ground. Ori wants to go help the person, thinking he is a Morphin Master. Kartor objects as they need to leave, but she manages to convince him to hold the portal open until they rescue the stranger. The five teenagers gather around the figure, whom Ori identifies as the Morphinaut, whose body is glowing and crackling with Grid energy and oddly does not have a pulse. Ori notices something odd with the Morphinaut's chest, only for all of them to be startled when he awakens and shouts: "He's Coming!". As the Morphinaut tries to stand, the massive surge of Grid energy in him causes him to scream in agony and collapse.
The teens then understand that they were ascending not just to protect themselves, but to protect the Grid and keep the evil forces out as the grinning demon shadow emerges and darkens the sky.
