Power Rangers Dino Fury is the 28th and 29th seasons of Power Rangers[1], serving as an adaptation of the 43rd Super Sentai series, Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger.

The series is Hasbro's second production under their film division Allspark Pictures & Entertainment One following their acquisition of the franchise.

Production

On February 22, 2020, Hasbro revealed at New York Toy Fair 2020 that the next Power Rangers adaptation would be based off the 2019 dinosaur-based Super Sentai season, Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger. However, the official title wasn't revealed at the time. It was revealed as Power Rangers Season 28.[2] On May 15, 2020, it was revealed that the adaptation would be called Power Rangers Dino Fury.[3]

As revealed by show-runner Simon Bennett, post-production on Beast Morphers wrapped around January 2020, but Ryusoulger was still airing and the writers of that show didn't want to release plot-points too early so the writers pretty much had to make things up as they went along with nothing but the raw footage as a reference. The choice to adapt Ryusoulger was made around April of 2019.[4] Given the fact that the 2020-2021 COVID-19 pandemic started partway through production, it is yet unclear how the restrictions affected the series proper.[5]

In late April of 2021, it was revealed in an interview with actor Chance Perez that Dino Fury would be moving to the streaming service Netflix for its second season upon the 2021 expiration of the series' contract with Nickelodeon - thus marking the transition of the Power Rangers main series to streaming exclusivity.[6] In late May 2021, the series wrapped up filming.

Synopsis

When an army of powerful alien beings are unleashed on Earth, threatening life as we know it, a brand-new team of Power Rangers, fueled by the pre-historic power of the dinosaurs, are recruited to deal with the threat.

Notes

  • According to producer Simon Bennett, Power Rangers Dino Knights was a working title before Hasbro ultimately decided on Dino Fury.[14]. "Dino Knight" was later used for the Dino Knight Morpher and its associated form.
  • Dino Fury is the first main season (outside of Power Rangers HyperForce and the Boom! Studios comic book runs) to have an official female Green Ranger.
  • Several cast members from Ryusoulger such as Hayate Ichinose[15], Tatsuya Kishida[16], Keito Tsuna[17], and Seiya Osada[18][19], have publicly acknowledged Dino Fury, with Dino Fury cast members Chance Perez[20] and Kai Moya[21] responding to their Japanese counterparts' kind comments.
  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic as stated by Bennett, Dino Fury does not have any crossovers with other Ranger teams.
  • Dino Fury is the first season with a dinosaur motif to lack a pterodactyl-based Ranger, though there is a pterodactyl-based Zord.
  • Dino Fury was originally scripted to be 22 episodes long in accordance with Nickelodeon's contract, but was picked up for a full 44-episode order.[Citation needed]
  • In some countries including India, the first season had premiered exclusively on Netflix.
  • On May 6, 2022, Dino Fury became the first season of Power Rangers to win a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Kids & Family Programming.
