Revision as of 11:41, 14 March 2020
This article is about a/an series entry (the "26th" and "27th") in the Power Rangers franchise. |
Power Rangers Beast Morphers is the 26th and 27th (season 2) season of Power Rangers and the first to be produced under the franchise's acquisition from Hasbro, under their film production division Allspark Pictures. The series borrows footage, costumes, and props from Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters.[1]
Production
Following the announcement on February 16, 2018, that Hasbro would be taking over Bandai America as the master toy licensee for Power Rangers from 2019 onwards[2], Power Rangers Beast Morphers was announced during Hasbro's panel for the New York Toy Fair 2018.[1]
On May 1, 2018, it was announced that Hasbro had purchased the Power Rangers franchise outright from Saban[3], making Beast Morphers the first Hasbro-era season. On August 18, 2018, the main Ranger cast was revealed to fans at Power Morphicon 6 during a Hasbro panel with a teaser trailer for the show screened at the event.
Plot
Set in the future, a secret agency combines a newly discovered substance called "Morph-X" with animal DNA to create the Power Rangers Beast Morphers team. The Rangers must fight off an evil sentient computer virus bent on taking over the source of all Ranger power, the Morphin Grid itself.

Notes
- This is the first Hasbro Era season.
- This is the first season/incarnation since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to be split into two or more sub-seasons, yet does not contain "Super" in the title of the season (as previously seen with seasons such as Power Rangers Super Samurai, Power Rangers Super Megaforce, Power Rangers Dino Super Charge, and Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel).
- This is the first season to have its toy line produced by Hasbro instead of Bandai America.
- This is the first season since RPM to start with only 3 Rangers on the main team and Coincidentally, they both have some similarities:
- The Blue Ranger gets a wheeler.
- The Red Ranger gets a race car.
- There is a helicopter/animal Zord.
- There are both Gold and Silver Rangers.
- The villains are sapient computer viruses.
- Both season have Vehicle/Animals Hybrids.
- This season debuts a brand new Power Rangers logo. Apart from the 2010 "reversion" of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, this is the first time the logo has been completely redesigned since Zeo.
- In the second season, Saban's name was dropped from the logo.
- This is the first time a Power Rangers season has adapted the Sentai out of order, as Go-Busters was skipped over initially.
- The core three Rangers made their debut in comics, rather than on television for the first time ever. This happened in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Boom! Studios) Issue 29.
- The Beast-X King Zord is the first Zord to serve as an alternative to the Red Ranger's main Zord that did not originate in the Sentai's summer movie (Spino Zord), nor has an associated ranger (MMPR Dragonzord)
- This season shares similarities with its first concurrent Sentai, Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger:
- Both teams start off with three Rangers.
- However, the colors of the Ryusoulgers match that of the preceding teams (Ninja Steel and Dino Charge) before Yellow and White/Green and Black morphed.
- Both use wrist-mounted morphers and a key gimmick.
- Beast Morphers is more expanded in the toyline than the series.
- Both combine animals with themes the other show's creators experimented previously.
- The Spy motif was common in the early Sentai series (ex. Gorenger, JAKQ).
- Saban had created Mystic Knights of Tir Na Og which ran around the same time as in Space.
- Both feature a Gold sixth Ranger.
- Both series only start off with two main villains (Tankjoh and Kleon, Blaze and Roxy), neither being the big bad.
- Both saw the debut of the core Zords/mecha before a focus on the Red Ranger's, which can be its own robot.
- For the first time, both started in March (3/2 and 3/17 respectively).
- Both are the first season of a new era (Hasbro and Reiwa).
- Tyramigo and the Beast Bots act as allies/companions to the Rangers.
- Both Evox and Druidon took the lives of those close to the Blue Rangers.
- Master Blue sacrificed himself for Melt against Dragon Minosaur.
- Roxy became an evil Avatar.
- The comedic reliefs of the series support the Rangers.
- Ui was fascinated by the Ryusoulgers world and sought to find their village.
- Ben and Betty work for Grid Battleforce.
- There is a sibling pair.
- Both involve a parent as a mentor.
- Naohisa (Ui's father) is a paleontologist and offers service and lodging to the Ryusoulgers.
- Commander Shaw is Ravi's mother and operates Grid Battleforce (or the Coral Harbor branch of.)
- Both feature unique monsters.
- The Minosaurs are created by using humans, a trait of Kamen Rider.
- The Rangers fight giant robot versions of the monsters they fight, a trait from Battle Fever J that was previously seen to an extent in SPD 13 seasons earlier.
- Both of their swords are sidearms with two functions.
- The Ryusoul Ken can use souls for armors or mecha summon.
- The Beast-X Saber doubles as binoculars. TV STORY-Evox's Revenge
- Interstingly, Ryusoulger would be annouced as the next season of Power Rangers in a season 2 trailer during New York Toy Fair.
- Both teams start off with three Rangers.
- The second half of Beast Morphers will air 20 years after the similarly themed Lightspeed Rescue
- Interestingly, both shows have one of the mentor's children as a Ranger (albeit a gender swap.)
- Even though Nate and Ravi are not actual siblings like Ryan and Dana, Commander Shaw has responsibility to take care of both.
- Interestingly, both shows have one of the mentor's children as a Ranger (albeit a gender swap.)
- On April 1, 2014, an adaptation of Go-Busters was announced as an April Fools joke, titled Power Rangers Energy Chasers.
