The Phantom Ranger is a mysterious Ranger from the Planet O117 and was originally known as the Morphinaut, serving as an ally and giving the Rangers' powers as the Squadron Rangers to fight against Dark Specter and his Spectoid. Later, he is also responsible for the creation of the six Emissaries.
History[]
Early life as the Morphinaut and becoming the Phantom Ranger[]
The Morphinaut and Chendil.
Originally, he was known as the Morphinaut, suited in white armor with golden trim. Over ten thousand years ago, he worked with a researcher and friend named Chendil at the Frontier Lab on Planet O117 of the A47 Galaxy. Chendil used the prototype Arch, a dimensional gate that led to the Morphin Grid, and the Morphinaut entered the realm of the Morphin Grid and found the horizon of the grid with energy that could power many worlds. However, there was evil lurking around the grid, the Arch was overloading, and the Morphinaut told Chendil to close the Arch with the Morphinaut inside it.
584 years later, Rhian, Orisonth, Telosi, Phiro, and Aleia went to their old secret hideout to investigate the attack of Masterforge Namize, where Telosi's brother Xev was being attacked. The five went to the Master Arch that Kartor activated to evacuate the people in the city. A glimpse of the Morphinaut was seen inside the Arch and was overcharged with unstable Morphin Grid energy. Shortly after, Dark Specter's forces attacked them.
COMIC STORY- Power Rangers Universe (Boom! Studios) Issue 1 Dark Specter was planning on invading and destroying the Morphin Grid.
Orisonth ripped the cords to the Master Arch to shut it down to prevent the horde of Spectoids from going invading it. While the Morphinaut was dealing with the horde, the others took for cover in a lab but were ambushed by another Spectoid. The Morphinaut caught the Spectoid and the Morphin Grid energy purified the Spectoid, turning the monster back into his original self, Xev, Telosi's missing brother. Grid energy is antithetical to the nature of Dark Specter.
The team will need to go back to the Frontier Lab to defend the original prototype Arch, or Proto-Arch, as that would be Dark Specter's next attack. To defend the Proto-Arch and reduce the unstable, overcharged Morphin Grid energy that surrounded the Morphinaut, the team used their Morphin Hearts to channel the Morphinaut's Morphin energy into them and they transformed into various legendary ranger forms from various space and time
COMIC STORY- Power Rangers Universe (Boom! Studios) Issue 2 but using unstable Morphin Grid energy from the Morphinaut has caused them to take self-damage as they randomly shift into other ranger forms through time and space. After a battle, they took shelter for a while.
Using new casings for their Hearts, they once again transformed into various legendary ranger forms from various time and spaces used the Morphinaut's unstable energy to fight through Dark Specter's forces on their way to the Frontier Lab. However, it turned out that Dark Specter purposely allowed the Squadron team to get to the Proto-Arch and the Morphinaut realized this by the the time they got to it.
COMIC STORY- Power Rangers Universe (Boom! Studios) Issue 3
The Morphinaut doesn't want the Squadron in danger, so he sealed the team inside the Frontier Lab while he defended the lab against Dark Specter's forces and a Spectoid General that seemed to know the Morphinaut. However, the team wasn't going to sit back and let the Morphinaut handle them alone and fought unmorphed alongside the Morphinaut while Orisonth was working their new ranger powers. After Orisonth finished working on their new powers, the team became the Squadron Rangers.
COMIC STORY- Power Rangers Universe (Boom! Studios) Issue 4
The Morphinaut becomes the host of Dark Specter.
The Squadron Rangers and the Morphinaut continued to fight against Dark Specter's forces and the Spectoid General and using his Morphin Grid energy, the Morphinaut defeated the general and purified him, turning the general back into the Morphinaut's old friend Chendil. The reunion was short until with his old partner until Chendil faded away. Back in the Frontier Lab, Dark Specter was trying to corrupt the minds of the Squadron Rangers and take over them but the Morphinaut took all of the negative emotions surrounding him and became corrupted himself from all the guilt he has for them, becoming the host of Dark Specter. His white armor turned black.
COMIC STORY- Power Rangers Universe (Boom! Studios) Issue 5
Dark Specter used the now-corrupted black Morphinaut to attack the Squadron Rangers. After noticing that Morphin Grid energy is not compatible with Dark Specter, the Squadron Rangers used their remaining power and shattered their Hearts to use all of its Morphin Grid energy to remove Dark Specter's influence on the Morphinaut but the Morphinaut's armor still remained black. With him becoming a "phantom" of his former self, the Morphinaut is now dubbed the Phantom Ranger, and as the former Squadron Rangers became emissaries of the Morphin Grid, the Phantom Ranger was transported to Eltar and introduced himself as the Phantom Ranger to Zordon, a Guardian of Eltar.

Early life as the Phantom Ranger[]
Years ago, the Phantom Ranger tried to save Rita.
Ten thousand years ago on the planet Da'Quar, the Phantom Ranger went on a mission ordered by Zordon to rescue both Lady Fienna and her daughter Rita from a bunch of Tenga Warriors sent by the evil Master Vile, as they captured the mother and child, the Phantom Rangers showed up and started to beat the Tenga Warriors while invisible. The Ranger was willing to die for the mission but Fienna wouldn't let him and rescued him before all three of them escaped on the Phantom Ranger's ship. Fienna took all three of them into the Masterforge so that the Phantom Ranger could heal himself, there they decided to infuse Rita with Morphin Grid energy so that Dark Specter couldn't use her as a vessel.
Just as the process was getting started a bunch of Tenga Warriors entered the Masterforge and fought the Phantom Ranger. As the process continued and Master Vile himself entered the Masterforge, the Phantom stood by Rita's side to comfort her during the painful process while telling her a story. Master Vile then killed Fienna and defeated the Phantom Ranger before taking Rita so he could at least train her (as she couldn't be used as a vessel anymore), due to the energy transference process the Forge also overload and was destroyed, leaving the Phantom alone in the empty space after his failed mission.
