"We are the vision in your dreams. We do not exist, yet we've been here since the beginning. We are Pai Zhuq, the Order of the Claw. We train only the best, both physically and mentally, swearing them to secrecy. All masters of their skills... Never knowing their true purpose, until now."

The Pai Zhuq (/ˌpaɪ ˈʃwaː/) Academy, or commonly known as the Order of the Claw is a secret martial arts academy that trains students in the discipline of Kung Fu and harnessing their Animal Spirits.

History[]

In ancient times, the first known practitioners of the art fought against an evil spirit known as Dai Shi and were able to imprison him underground. To prepare for any potential escape by Dai Shi, the academy began training students in Kung Fu and controlling their Animal Spirits, with three martial artists chosen to become guardians during any given period.

In modern times, Jarrod, Theo Martin, and Lily Chilman were originally amongst six finalists and won the right to become the next guardians. However Jarrod lost his right to become one as he was a bully to Casey Rhodes, a new student who Mao eventually chose to join Theo and Lily. Due to Jarrod's jealousy, he accidentally unleashed Dai Shi into the world and was possessed by him.

On the same day, Mao, as he passed away into a spirit, sent Casey, Theo, and Lily to Ocean Bluff to train under RJ, where they would eventually become the Jungle Fury Rangers to fight against Dai Shi's forces. Throughout the course of an entire year, the three Rangers continued to gain new skills from training under the three Masters Master Phant, Master Swoop, and Master Finn. Later, they traveled to the Spirit World and trained under Master Rilla, Master Lope, and Master Guin to unlock their Jungle Master powers.

Theo and Lily are eventually promoted to Master, while it took Casey courage to defy orders and repair his relationship with Jarrod before gaining his Master title. After Dai Shi's defeat, Casey became an instructor at the academy. Amongst his students were Jake Holling and Emma Goodall, who needed the legendary powers of Jungle Fury.

Notes[]

  • Although Pai Zhuq is a fictional discipline created for the series, it is inspired heavily by Kung Fu and several Chinese wushu styles.
  • Although the official spelling in the toy descriptions is Pai Zhuq, the pronunciation of the order's name is closer to the Chinese 派爪, romanized as Pai Zhua (or in Vietnamese: Phái trảo), which can be understood as "school (of the) claw." The misspelling is often thought to be a typographical error from promotional material.
    • Although, this would be syntactically incorrect in Chinese as the adjective should go before the noun, and would be interpreted as "School/Faction Claw" or "Claw of the School/Faction".
      • This order is syntactically correct if read in Vietnamese (the usage of Chinese characters in Vietnamese is known as Chữ Hán for Chinese vocabulary, and Chữ Nôm for native Vietnamese vocabulary; which is possible due to historical Chinese influence, including vocabulary), but the usage of Chinese characters for Vietnamese declined in the late 19th century under the French Indochinese administration. Instead, Vietnamese has since shifted over to using the Portuguese-derived Vietnamese alphabet, and teaching Chinese characters was officially discontinued in 1917. The usage of Chinese characters is still seen on special occasions, as well as for scholarly and religious purposes.
