Operation Seasoning[1] is the seventh episode of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. This episode marks the only appearance of Heckyl's Dino Charge Dark Ranger form in the live-action Power Rangers continuity.

Synopsis[]

To save Pine Ridge, Team Cosmic Fury must dismantle the system of Squidrills creating an Anti-Zord forcefield around Earth — with the help of a spy.

Plot[]

The Rangers arrive back on Earth in the Cosmic Cruiser after a 14 hour trip from Erridus, hovering about Earth's atmosphere and happy to be home with the hope of relaxing once they've freed Earth. Zayto meets up with the other Rangers, who were amused that he slept through the entire trip and inform him that they were able to remove the tracker from the Cosmic Dragon Zord and Solon got all the Scuttleworm slime out of her cybernetics which took the whole journey home. They then go over their plan, which they had dubbed ‘Operation Seasoning', where they have a globe of the planet with thumb tacks in it which represent the network of Squidrills projecting the Anti-Zord forcefield around the planet. Izzy points out that Squillia's Mega Squidrill is in downtown Pine Ridge and the Resistance's spy Heckyl is on board. They'll have to wait for Heckyl to sabotage the Mega Squidrill, which will cause a chain reaction and disable the Anti-Zord forcefield. Then, they will be able to take out the remaining Squidrills, and liberate all the captured citizens and Ranger teams from Zedd's prisons around the globe.

Excited about the plan, the Rangers summon for their Zords, with Amelia, Javi, Izzy, Fern, and Billy in the Cosmic Fury Megazord and Zayto and Aiyon in the Cosmic Dragon Megazord. As the Rangers fly toward the Earth, Aiyon asks Fern if she's excited for her first official Zord mission, with Izzy saying that she's got this, and Fern being excited to hit all the buttons on her Zord. Amelia calls Tarrick to signal Heckyl that 'Operation Seasoning' is a go.

While on the Mega Squidrill in Pine Ridge, Omwhyzo is looking for Zentinels when he finds Heckyl and Squillia hanging out together. Heckyl tries to send Squillia away with a gift card to a luxury spa before Tarrick signals him that the Cosmic Fury Rangers are ready for him. He immediately blows his cover, summons his Spino Boomerang, and morphs into the Dino Charge Dark Ranger before attempting to fight Squillia and Omwhyzo. The Rangers are heading towards the city in the Megazords, and are worried that the spy hasn't signaled them yet, meaning the forcefield is still up. Knowing that Earth needs them, Amelia opts that they keep going. Heckyl manages to defeat the Zentinels and attempts to try the console projecting the forcefield, but Squillia catches his Spino Boomerang and subdues him with her tentacle before he can reach his Dino Com to warn the Rangers. The Megazords continue to be affected from the anti-Zord forcefield, but they keep going towards the city. Heckyl demorphs just as Omwhyzo notices their scanner picked up two Megazords in orbit, so Squillia has him send Squidrills to destroy the Megazords and Zentinels to capture the Rangers, just as Heckyl passes out and Squillia sends him to Zedd's prison.

Without the forcefield disabled, the Megazords end up crash-landing in Pine Ridge, with the Rangers still onboard. Seeing the Megazords crash and worried about Amelia, Tarrick and his resistance members teleport down just as the Zentinels capture Amelia, Izzy, Javi, Fern, and Billy and teleport them to Zedd's prison, while Zayto and Aiyon are able to evade capture. The Zords are badly damaged, but not before Zayto uses the Morphin Master Staff to send the Zords back into the Morphin Grid, which causes him to feel weak again. Tarrick and the Rafkonians show up to inform them that their plan failed, and worries that something bad must have happened to Heckyl. He wishes he could have done more, but Zayto assures him that their Zords are self-repairing in the Grid, and they still have him and Aiyon to come up with a plan, before he faints from exhaustion. The Resistance notices Zentinels approaching, so Tarrick immediately teleport them all to his Resistance base.

While Zayto recovers, Solon, who hid the ship on the Moon, comes in to assess him. Aiyon tells Solon that this is the second time this happened, and the first time was when he used magic to locate her on Erridus, which Solon concludes that using magic twice caused him to collapse. Zayto suddenly wakes up, saying that saving the Zords really drained him, with Solon pointing out if the toll on using magic is too much for him, then he shouldn't use it. Aiyon asks Zayto how the Morphin Masters brought him back from the Grid, who explains that they filled him up with their magic, which is why he's able to use Master Red's Staff. However, Solon points out that the Morphin Masters are not free to top Zayto off if he runs out of magic, and concludes that magic is the only thing keeping him alive, which Aiyon remembers is what the tree on Levvina told Zayto:" to enjoy what time he had left". Zayto doesn't want to divulge any of the Morphin Masters' secrets, even after Aiyon and Solon attempt to ask him about it, until he admits that he will die again and return to the Grid when he uses up all his magic.

Soon, Pop-Pop arrives, having smuggled in some Grid Battleforce Mega Transporters from Coral Harbor, compliments of General Shaw, which the Grid Battleforce Rangers used to teleport their weapons and Zords into battle. Now, they come up with a plan to use them to send the Mega Squidrill over Zedd's prison to drop it on the building, disabling both the forcefield around the prison and the anti-Zord forcefield, so that they can free the Rangers and the prisoners, but will need a distraction for the Mega Transporters to be placed. Zayto offers to use his magic for that part. However, Aiyon and Solon pull him aside and are against this plan, but Zayto points out that they need to stop the invasion and save their friends. He says using magic is his choice, which is why he did not want to tell them. Zayto asks them to keep the magic drain a secret from the other Rangers and focus on stopping Lord Zedd, and is sure the Morphin Masters can fix him once they free them from captivity. Although Aiyon and Solon are reluctant about this, they respect Zayto's wishes and have his back, with the two Rafkonian best friends doing their special handshake. Now that they'll settled this, Zayto tells them about his distraction plan, and tells Solon that she's going to love it.

While Tarrick, Pop-Pop, and the Rafkonian resistance remain hidden near the prison, and signal the others to begin their distraction. Zayto uses Master Red's Staff to make Solon giant and rampage in the city to distract the Zentinels near Zedd's prison, which the latter enjoys, while Aiyon teleports to set up the three Mega Transporters around the Mega Squidrill. Once they were set up, Zayto eventually faints just as Aiyon teleports back to him, while Solon shrinks back to her normal size. After catching Zayto, Aiyon activates the Mega Transporters and they teleport the Mega Squidrill over the prison, causing it to drop on top of it, destroying the shield, giving Tarrick, Pop-Pop, and the Rafkonian resistance the opportunity to liberate the prisoners as Aiyon joins in once Solon teleports Zayto back to the base.

The other Rangers briefly reunite with their loved ones, with Warden Garcia noticing Javi's cybernetic arm, but assures him and Rina that he is alright. Tarrick informs Izzy and Javi that reinforcements are coming and they need to get everyone off the streets, who opt to stay behind and help civilians get out, while the Garcias escape with Lily. The Cosmic Fury Rangers, Billy, and Heckyl morph and fight Squillia, Omwhyzo, a Copyguard and some Zentinels as Tarrick returns to help. With many Zentinels on the ground, Billy suggests cutting off the reinforcements, which Amelia agrees before she and the Cosmic Fury Rangers take off in their Zords to destroy the Squidrill (with Amelia in the Cosmic Lion Zord, Izzy in the Cosmic Chameleo Zord, Javi in the Cosmic Eagle Zord, Aiyon in the Cosmic Wolf Zord, and Fern in the Cosmic Scorpion Zord). They manage to destroy a Squidrill just as a Copyguard grows giant to try and protect them, but is taken down along with the Squidrills. As the Rangers try to destroy the last Squidrill, it transforms into Battle Mode, but it gets destroyed by the Cosmic Fury Megazord's Cosmic Mega Spin Strike. Tarrick takes down Omwhyzo before helping Billy and Heckyl deal with Squillia and the rest of Zentinels. Billy battles Squillia and stops her with his Power Lance, before Tarrick subdues her with a pair of Sleepy Cuffs and take her to his base for interrogation.

While the Rangers celebrate their victory and check their recharged phones that contain dozens of missed calls, messages, and voicemails from their loved ones and friends, Tarrick, Billy, and Heckyl contact them to compliment the Rangers on the plan, to which they compliment back. However, Billy brings up a point that there's still a lot of work to be done globally with liberating the rest of Earth, to where Fern upgrades that to universally: where the Rangers still have to find wherever Zedd is holding the Morphin Masters and getting Ollie back to normal as well. Tarrick then shows how their sleeping captive Squillia can clue them on that, to which she starts talking in her sleep, amusing Solon and the Rangers.
