Off Grid[1] is the third episode of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. It marks the debut of the Dino Fury Rangers' new Cosmic Fury suits (sans Ollie and Zayto) as the Cosmic Fury Rangers.
Synopsis[]
Stranded on a distant planet with no powers, the Cosmic Fury team scramble to figure out a way home while Earth suffers an invasion from enemy forces.
Plot[]
Still stuck on Erridus, the Rangers try to make the most of their new situation before coming up with a plan. While Javi struggles to use his robot arm to play the guitar, Billy tells the others about the time he and his friends received the Ninja Power Coins from Ninjor. Amelia asks Billy if he has any ideas on making new powers, and the latter says he has one. Recalling how the team told him how the Morphin Masters helped them before, Billy says he might be able to do something despite lacking the powers they have.
Solon tells Amelia that she could not get the intergalactic comms running due to being out of range from Earth, but they still have the antenna Zayto used to send messages to Rafkon. With that, they could set it up outside and use it to contact Earth. However, Aiyon begins to fret about the worst-case scenarios of their situation, especially showing regret about leaving Earth behind. Still, Amelia tells Aiyon that he did the right thing and suggests he cooks something to calm down.
Elsewhere, Javi unstrings his guitar with his robot arm and grows frustrated. Seeing how Javi is struggling with his new predicament, Billy offers to restring his guitar and asks for help with the tuning.
Meanwhile, Izzy and Fern clean up a room for Billy. Fern finds some blueprints of the base and notices a cockpit in front of the main chamber. Izzy realizes it’s schematics to convert the base into a spaceship and is happy Solon thought ahead. Afterwards, Fern gives Izzy an Oakdale hoodie to commemorate her first day of college, but also remarks that the latter should have told her the truth about Lord Zedd’s invasion. Izzy apologizes, mentioning she didn't want to worry her but it backfired. Fern tells her that she knows that she is trying to save lives, college can wait until the universe is safe. She is glad that they are together and tells her to promise the next time she will tell her stuff. Izzy tells her that she is very lucky to have an amazing girlfriend. Fern tells her that she could here it more and they almost shared a kiss.
Before they could lock their lips, a frustrated Aiyon go through the kitchen supplies. Aiyon cannot find anything to cook with, only finding dried seasoning. As Amelia suggests they go outside to set up the antenna, Fern offers to come along and Aiyon decides to join as he can find food to cook. However, Izzy tells Fern to stay in the base as, without their powers, the Rangers cannot protect her from unknown threats.
Back in the main chamber, Billy places the Freeze Dino Key next to the Morphin Master Staff and discovers that the residual Morphin Grid energy is reacting strongly to it. Solon recalls what Mick said about the Morphin Masters using their staffs as conduits to the Grid and Billy theorizes a possible way to create new powers. Billy goes to the engineering bay to build something to make the plan work.
Outside, the Rangers get the antenna up as Aiyon scavenges for food. As Aiyon picks some alien fruit, he notices some eggs and sees one hatch. The alien, called a Scuttleworm, attacks Aiyon and bites him. Aiyon throws the Scuttleworm into the food bin, and the alien eats enough until it grows into an adult. Amelia joins Aiyon, and they summon their weapons to fight, while the Garcia siblings put the final touches on the antenna. Once they finish, Javi comes to Amelia and Aiyon’s aid, finally using his robot arm properly to knock the Scuttleworm far away from them.
The Rangers return to the base as Solon receives multiple signals from Earth. The first one they see is a live stream from BuzzBlast as Jane and J-Borg report on Lord Zedd’s invasion as civilians are running away in fear. While the other Power Ranger teams are fighting back across the globe, something out there is affecting their Zords. The broadcast ends as another Squidrill attacks, and Solon patches into another one from Coral Harbor. General Shaw publicly announces that a forcefield is surrounding Earth, causing all the Zords in the atmosphere to malfunction. While Grid Battleforce is looking for a way to find out the source of the forcefield, Earth is on its own. Still, Shaw rallies the public that Earth will stand united and defiant against Lord Zedd.
After the broadcast ends, the Rangers realize that they cannot use the Zords on Earth even if they could morph. And with their vulnerable situation, they agree not to contact their parents as any call could be traced back to Erridus.
At Osaka, Ollie comes in to see Dr. Lani, acting that the pure Morphin Grid energy blast worked, and he is himself again. Ollie says he was left behind and asks Lani to help him rejoin his team. Lani said she got an encrypted message from Ollie’s friend Mick, saying he found Zayto’s energy signature on an unknown planet called Levvina. With the message in his hands, Ollie leaves and drops his act, revealing to his mother that he is still under Lord Zedd’s control. All Lani could do in that moment is stare in horror that her son manipulated her into giving him vital intel.
Back on Erridus, Aiyon tries to cook something for the team, only to cause a huge mess in the kitchen. Amelia checks on Aiyon and notices that he seems more stressed than before. Aiyon admits that opening the café helped put his mind at ease following Zayto’s death, but then his friend returned only to be separated from the team on the same day. Amelia is worried that Aiyon is taking the loss of Zayto hard, and she admits that she misses Ollie. Still, Amelia wants to focus on the hope she can save Ollie and Zayto. The talk helps Aiyon as he realizes they can work together through their problems and shows Amelia the stew he is cooking.
Back in the main chamber, Izzy and Fern show Solon the blueprints they found earlier, which the latter remembers making while she was alone for sixty-five million years. Solon admits she could never figure out how to turn the base into a ship, but the conversation ends when the proximity alarm goes off. They see the Scuttleworm approaching them, and Amelia tries to contact Billy as he is the only one who can morph currently. However, Billy does not answer because he is working on utilizing the Morphin Master Staff, forcing the team to fight without him. Fern tells them that that the Scuttleworm almost took them down last time and Izzy tells her they still got to protect people like her. She kisses Fern's forehead.
The Rangers teleport and try to fight the Scuttleworm, only for the alien to knock them aside and go towards Aiyon. Aiyon realizes that the Scuttleworm likes the smell of the food on his apron and starts teasing the alien by swatting it around. But when the Scuttleworm gets the apron, Aiyon gets an idea and teleports away. The other Rangers try to fight the Scuttleworm, only for the alien to upchuck slime on Javi and knock him out. Suddenly, Aiyon returns with the stew and bikes away to lure the Scuttleworm away from his friends.
Back on Lord Zedd’s Mega Squidrill, the emperor watches in confusion over Squillia’s dance stream with other monsters. Ollie enters the command room and shows Zedd the message Dr. Lani gave him about Zayto’s location. Impressed with Ollie’s good work, Zedd orders Scrozzle to give the former the gift he was promised. Then, Ollie requests that he lead a team of monsters to help him capture Zayto, explaining that he wants to adapt the team approach against the Rangers. Zedd allows this and gives Ollie Squillia’s backup dancers, despite the latter protesting this. Zedd leaves Squillia in charge of finishing Earth’s invasion with General Omwhyzo as he has another world to conquer.
Back on Erridus, the Rangers celebrate their victory as Billy walks in with the device he has been working on. He reveals the Morphin Master Staff in a column and a case of six new Morphers that automatically link to the team’s communicators. The Rangers get their new Cosmic Fury Morphers on their wrists, but Izzy asks how they can morph when the Dino Fury Keys are not connected to the Morphin Grid anymore. Fortunately, Billy activates the column, and it manifests the Morphin Grid to create six Cosmic Orbs. As the Rangers claim them, Solon takes two for Zayto and Ollie once they return. Billy instructs the team how to use the Cosmic Fury Morphers, and they morph into their new Cosmic Fury Ranger suits.
As the team is marveling at their new powers and weapons, Amelia notices that her suit color looks different and takes her helmet off for a better look. Much to Amelia’s shock, she became the Red Ranger instead of the Pink Ranger, which concerns her as that was Zayto’s color. Billy reassures Amelia that the Morphin Grid must have chosen the color for her as it reacted to something inside her, and the others note how selfless Amelia has been lately despite her own problems.
Afterwards, Solon gets a message from Mick, telling them that he has good news and bad news: while Zayto is on Levvina, so is Lord Zedd’s forces. So, the newly dubbed Cosmic Fury Rangers prepare to head out to save Zayto as Amelia calls out the order to summon the Zords.

Notes[]
- The title of this episode is a pun referencing the concept of going "off [the] grid", i.e. intentionally distancing oneself or one's family from modern civilization and the conveniences thereof and instead leveraging the natural resources of a given area to self-sustain. The Rangers were forced off-grid when they warped to Erridus. It further references the Rangers being cut off from the Morphin Grid for much of the episode following the events of the previous episode.
- Billy, Mick, and Ollie do not appear morphed in this episode.
- Zayto does not appear in this episode.
- This episode features no footage from Kyuranger.
- This episode is historic as it introduces Amelia as the Cosmic Fury Red Ranger, making her the first ever full-time female Red Ranger in Power Rangers history.
- This is the only time that Izzy morphs in front of Fern. Since she revealed to be the Green Ranger in "Things Unspoken".
