Octomus the Master was the main antagonist of Power Rangers Mystic Force. He was the true leader of the forces of darkness and Supreme Master of the Underworld. His ultimate goal was to destroy all good magic in existence and plunge the universe into eternal darkness for him to rule over as a god.
History[]
Past[]
Octomus is the true leader of the forces of darkness and Supreme Master of the Underworld. The denizens of the Underworld revere him so much that they refer to him only as "the Master". He contacts his minions via the white pool at the center of their lair, which turns red to signal his presence. He was sealed in his Pit by the efforts of Leanbow at the end of the Great Battle when the Morlocks attempted to invade the Surface Realm, but he was able to transform his enemy into his servant Koragg, The Knight Wolf beforehand. He was also responsible for dragging Catastros down to the Underworld. TV STORY-Legendary Catastros
Mystic Force[]
With the Morlocks active once more, their sole motivation is to free their Master. Octomus often has to intervene to stop his minions squabbling. TV STORY-Broken Spell
Koragg is placed on trial before him and accused of being a failure to the Morlock's cause. Octomus makes his verdict in Koragg's favor. TV STORY-Koragg's Trial
To gain Octomus' favor after his attempts at usurping him fails, Imperious proposes the idea of feeding the Ranger's Legendary powers to Octomus, giving him the power to enter the surface world. However, when Udonna's interference almost gets her killed by Octomus himself, Koragg stops him at the last second and is turned into Leanbow once more. Octomus is able to partially emerge onto the surface before Leanbow pulls off the ultimate sacrifice, seemingly destroying himself and Octomus. However, after Imperious is destroyed by Daggeron, in his final words, he tells that the Ten Terrors are coming and will bring about Octomus' resurrection. TV STORY-Heir Apparent
Sculpin (the leader of the Ten Terrors and second-in-command to the Master) learns that Leanbow, still stuck in the body of Koragg, seems to be somehow preventing the Master's resurrection from beyond the grave. Later, Sculpin locates Leanbow in the Underworld and extracts the Master's spirit, giving it to Gekkor for safekeeping. TV STORY-Hard Heads
Using the Stone of Judgement, the Master ultimately chooses Matoombo as his vessel and is restored to his physical form by hatching & melting Matoombo's body. After proclaiming his intention to the Mystic Force, he leaves to begin his endgame. TV STORY-The Return
In his first bid for power, Octomus first possesses Nick Russell directly and transforms him into a new Koragg; one more sadistic and vicious who lays waste to parts of the forest and Rootcore before he is saved. While the Rangers are distracted by this, the Master then goes to the Mystic Realm and seemingly destroys the Mystic Mother, the source of all good magic and, when Leanbow and Daggeron arrive to face him, he devours their Knight powers and kills them. Following this, he personally goes to Briarwood and attacks the Rangers directly, hurling them into a vision of the future where he has succeeded in destroying the Earth. However, the Rangers aren't finished yet and they summon the Manticore Megazord to take on the Master. They try to use the Legend Striker Spin Attack at full power but the Master simply consumes the fiery beam with his mouth and uses his tentacles to first destroy the Manticore Megazord's Legend Striker and then ultimately devastate the Manticore Megazord with a simple kick but not after devouring part of their magic while the Megazord is down and sending the Rangers fleeing.
Octomus' victory seems certain but Nick is able to wound him and have the Rangers sent back to the real world although they lose all of their magic in the process. However, the Master is undone when it is revealed that Itassis and Necrolai have defected from him (causing the resurrection of Daggeron, Jenji and Leanbow), the Mystic Mother is still alive, and both the people of Briarwood & the forest have gathered against him. Regaining their magic from people's belief in them and together with the hope of both the people of Briarwood & the forest they become the Mystic Force Power Rangers once again. Octomus demands that they give him their magic which they comply to by unleashing their magic which he easily starts devouring. However no matter how much he consumes, more still comes and it is far more than he can handle. He started bulging up and distending that he demanded that they stop before he overloads on good magic and implodes, ending his threat and legacy forever. TV STORY-Mystic Fate

Personality[]
Octomus was one of the most evil beings in Power Rangers history and the most feared being in the magical world. He was a cruel, ruthless, sadistic, twisted, intimidating, power-hungry, destructive, manipulative, monstrous, vicious, treacherous, greedy, wicked, heartless, calculating, and narcissistic demon who took immense pleasure in torturing his victims mentally and physically as well as enjoying the prospect of killing or enslaving millions. Whilst being quite stoic and calm, he was shown to be egocentric and arrogant as he boasted about his power to the Mystic Mother and thought that no one could stop him. He was remorseless, aggressive, and cataclysmically tyrannical, seeing as he turned the world into an alternate reality apocalypse without a twinge of regret. He had no sense of humor or even comedy added to him which only makes him more menacing to the point where even his minions were deathly afraid of his wrath and the Rangers requiring caution to deal with him. He was somewhat free of cowardice while his arrogance boosted his "belief " that he was the most powerful being on earth. The only time he ever showed fear was when the Power Rangers overloaded him with good magic and demanded them to stop, though by then, it was too late.
Forms[]
Octomus' first form resembled an immense octopus-like demon with dragon-headed tentacles, but usually only his right eye could be seen. His other left eye was embedded in Koragg's shield and one of his fangs was used to make Morticon's sword (which was taken by Koragg when Morticon was destroyed and forged into a new Knight Saber) and quite possibly some of his claws were given to Necrolai as she described her weapons as the "Claws of the Master".
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Corruption Beam: From his right eye, the Master can fire red lightning beams that turn anyone evil.
- Tractor Beam: The Master can fire a red lightning-like tractor beam that can grab anyone.
- Energy Drain: With his tractor beam, he can absorb his victim's energy to give him enough strength to return.
- Reviving: The Master can revive anyone who had been destroyed.
Abilities[]
- Weakening: If anyone had broke free from his spell, the Master could weaken them enough to take control of them again by flashing his right eye.
Weaknesses[]
- Sealing: Despite being a powerful entity, the Master is susceptible to being sealed away.
Arsenal[]
- Dragon Tentacles: The Master had many tentacles with a dragon head on each one for combat.
Octomus' second form (seen prior to his resurrection) was a simple flaming red ball.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Flight: In his spirit form, the Master could fly at high speed.
- Possession: In his spirit form, the Master could enter a person to possess them.
- Body Creation: After possessing his host, Octomus can tear away their body and create a new one for his own.

Arsenal[]
- The Master has no arsenals as a spirit.
After taking over by hatching and melting Matoombo's body, Octomus resembled a skeletal fallen angel-like beast with an octopus-like head and a skull-like face, a black mask that conceals his hideous brain and eyes, and numerous tentacles on both his rear and back. He also had two tentacles appearing on the sides of his mouth and two additional eyes on his skull-face to replace his original right eye, which were yellow with no eyelids. He had large tentacle-like wings behind his back that can change its appearance, massive five-fingered clawed hands with fins in between the fingers, werewolf-like feet, and a gold Mystic plate located on the middle of his chest. He was mostly colored in black and red.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Possession: Octomus could possess anyone and then control his or her body like before in his spirit form.
- Object Possession: The Master can also possess objects, such as the Stone of Judgment.
- Future Vision Control: Octomus could make anyone think of the future he wants to happen.
- Magic Absorption/Consumption: Octomus' primary ability where he could absorb and consume any type of magic powers and attacks into his mouth to make himself stronger.
- Flight: Octomus could fly at high speed like before in his spirit form, but this time he uses his huge demonic tentacle-like wings.
- Teleportation: Octomus could teleport to any location at will.
- Self-Growth: Octomus could grow to a gigantic size at will.
- Shrinking: Octomus could shrink down to human size at will.
- Time Travel: Octomus could travel to a post-apocalyptic era where he rules.
- Dimensional Travel: Octomus could travel to other dimensions.
- Conjuration: The Master was able to conjure up the dead Daggeron and Leanbow in balls of light.
- Despair Empowerment: The greater the despair and hopelessness Octomus' enemies had, the stronger he became.
- Laser Vision: Octomus could fire massive red colored energy lasers from his eyes.
- Energy Tornado Vision: Octomus could fire a red energy tornado from his eyes. This was presumably his strongest attack as it caused a huge force that destroyed everything around the Mystic Realm.
- Lightning Bolt: Octomus could launch powerful red lightning bolts.
Abilities[]
- Power: Being the leader of the forces of darkness and the supreme master of the underworld, Octomus the Master was the strongest and most powerful villain in Mystic Force. He was much more powerful than Koragg, Necrolai, Imperious, Morticon, and all Barbarian Beasts and Ten Terrors combined.
- Strength: Octomus has a great deal of pure strength, powerful enough to break free from the Mystic Mother's strongest spell, push both Leanbow and Daggeron's strongest magic attacks back at them, and destroy the Manticore Megazord with just a few hits.
- Armor: Combined with pure strength, Octomus also had armor strong enough to take many hits as he suffered very little damage from Nick Russell's kamikaze attack.
Weaknesses[]
- Armor Limit: The Master's armor has limits since it can be cracked open with enough force.
- Magic Absorption/Consumption Limit: On his own, the Master was very powerful and lethal, but his critical weakness came from his ability to absorb and consume magical energy-based attacks. Whilst very effective, it is shown that he cannot absorb too much magic or else he would bulge up and explode like a balloon. This became the cause of his destruction in the second/final part of the two-part series finale.
Arsenal[]
- Tentacles: Octomus retained his tentacles from his original form that he can use in combat as well but they lacked the dragon heads and he gets two new abilities with them:
- Energy Tentacles: Octomus could release his tentacles as red energy tendrils.
- Lightning Empowerment: Octomus could charge up his tentacles with red lightning to lash and tangle an opponent with maximum force. This was powerful enough to temporarily kill Daggeron.

Behind the Scenes[]
Portrayal[]
- Octomus was voiced by John Leigh.
Design[]
- Octomus' main form for most of the series was designed to resemble an octopus whereas his true form resembled a squid/devil-like creature.
Etymology[]
- Octomus's name is possibly a corruption of octopus, owing to his initial resemblance to an octopus or squid.
Notes[]
- In the series, he was only referred to as "The Master". However, an episode description at the iTunes Video Store for an episode of Power Rangers: Mystic Force lists his name as "Octomus".
- Octomus is one of the few villains in the series to actually kill a Ranger, or in this case, two (although they were each later revived).
