The New York Toy Fair also known as the American International Toy Fair is an annual trade show event which takes place in New York City, backed by The Toy Association non-profit trade group, which has taken place every year since 1903. Toymakers from over 30 countries attend annually as of 2013, with attendees from over 92 countries visiting every year.
Its function is to promote the toy industry, support toymakers from around the world, and let investors know what toys companies are manufacturing as prototypes and concepts are displayed. Since it is a trade show, it is only open to the press, investors, retailers and businessmen tied to the toy industry. Toy companies present at the show range from small independent businesses to large corporations such as Bandai and Hasbro.
Hasbro utilizes the trade show to show off their new toys and toylines and what is going on with their IPs in the coming months, even live streaming the event on the Hasbro Pulse Facebook page. After the acquisition of Power Rangers, Hasbro would sometimes announce new products and new details on the TV series as well as the Boom! Studios comics at the show.
