Icon-ryusoulgerThis article is about an episode in Power Rangers Dino Fury.

New Leaf is the seventh episode of Power Rangers Dino Fury season 2, and the twenty-ninth episode overall. It's the first part of a three-part story to Void Knight's defection from the Void Family and redemption, along with Void Queen taking over as the primary villain of Season 2. It features the only appearance of the Ptera Rex Zord and the debut of the Ptera Smash Ultrazord.

Synopsis[]

Ollie is dismissive of Amelia when she interviews an old Professor of his, but a poisonous problem plaguing Pine Ridge forces him to break his mean attitude.

Plot[]

At Area 62, now that Santaura has become Void Queen, she has seized control of the Void Family from Void Knight and decides to enact her revenge against the humans. Using her telekinetic powers, Void Queen opens up the machine and pulls out a Sporix Cell that hatches into the Sporix Beast, Squashblight. When Mucus joked about it being Halloween, Squashblight threatened to use his toxic venom on her, which frightens her. She orders Void Knight to take Squashblight to the city so the latter could make the humans pay. Void Knight tries to convince Void Queen to let go of her hatred as he never wanted to hurt the humans, but she argued that her lover had no problems endangering civilians when he was gathering the Sporix Cells. Void Knight said he wasn't trying to harm people, and he only needed energy from the Sporix Cells to help her. However, Void Queen is unconvinced and tells Void Knight to help her make the humans suffer, and after that, then they can leave Earth. Seeing that Void Queen will not budge, Void Knight reluctantly takes Squashblight to Pine Ridge to figure out where they should hit first.

At BuzzBlast, Zayto, Izzy, Javi, and Aiyon are drinking smoothies, while Ollie is on a video call with his mother who's still in Japan. She informs him that Professor Drake Floyd is coming to Pine Ridge to speak at the Science Symposium. This excites him as Professor Floyd was his professor back in school who he hasn't seen in three years, and he asks the other Rangers where the symposium was. None of them know where the symposium is exactly, but Javi mentions that Amelia is interviewing Professor Floyd for BuzzBlast. Ollie sees Professor Floyd come in and the two reconnect as Amelia comes by to talk with the professor about their interview. After giving her a flash drive with his slideshow on it, Professor Floyd takes notice of Amelia’s bracelet as she explains it has magnets that helps to balance a person’s energy. However, as usual, Ollie puts down Amelia’s accessory as complete nonsense, embarrassing her and making her feel bad, though Professor Floyd does compliment how the bracelet suits her.

As Amelia leaves to set up the slideshow, Professor Floyd comes down on Ollie’s know-it-all attitude and sees his old student hasn't changed a bit. Surprised to hear this, Professor Floyd reveals some truths about what happened when Ollie was in school: Ollie's attitude back in school made his classmates not want to work with him, which is why Professor Floyd always ended up doing his experiments with him. However, Ollie arrogantly brushes that aside, believing that his classmates were simply jealous of how smart he was. After Professor Floyd leaves, Ollie tries to ask Amelia if what his professor said was true. Even when she tries to give him an answer, Ollie cuts her off and starts talking about hearing a pin drop. Seeing that he doesn't want to listen, Amelia tells Ollie that she has work to do and leaves him.

At the community pool, Jane is doing an investigative story of Opal the Octopus, who escaped the Pine Ridge Aquarium. Jane plans to capture the octopus at the pool with bait on a line while she and J-Borg relax in the hot tub. However, Opal sneaks through the grates, takes J-Borg's phone, and adjusts the hot tub, so the whirlpool functions spins both Jane and J-Borg out of control until they launch into the water. J-Borg realizes the bait and her phone are gone as Opal leaves in a taxi.

Suddenly, Squashblight and Void Knight teleport down as the Sporix Beast drips his venom into the pool, where a woman calls the Ranger Hotline about their appearance. The Rangers teleport down and see what Squashblight's venom does to people: those who are affected by it freeze in place and turn into human-shaped trees, including Jane, though J-Borg is unaffected due to being an android. Void Knight witnesses a father distraught over his daughter being affected by the venom and realizes what his actions have caused. Aiyon fires several Mosa Blasts at Squashblight, but his attacks ricochet off his gourd-like skin. The core five Rangers throw their Dino Daggers at Squashblight, but the same thing happens. Void Knight has had enough and teleports Squashblight away from the pool, though the latter plans on using his venom to turn all of Pine Ridge into trees. Before leaving, Ollie collects some venom so he and Solon can make an antidote and restore Squashblight’s victims. In the meantime, the other Rangers will contact Warden Garcia and warn civilians to stay away from water sources before the six of them teleport away.

At Dinohenge, Ollie is hard at work on the antidote and asks Solon if there are any more slides, where she makes a joke about them being at the playground. Unamused by the joke, Solon goes to find more slides for Ollie. Amelia teleports in and tells Ollie that thanks to Javi, Warden Garcia has closed all pools and beaches until Squashblight is taken care of. Amelia sees the pool water Ollie collected is starting to boil over and tries to warn the latter twice, but Ollie brushes it aside and that she should leave the science stuff to the scientist, which makes Amelia feel bad once again. However, Amelia’s concerns prove true because just as Solon returns with more slides for Ollie, the pool water does boil over and splashes her, turning their friend into a tree as well. Ollie realizes that had he listened to Amelia about the boil, Solon wouldn't have gotten turned into a tree, making him understand what Professor Floyd told him earlier was true. Knowing that they do not have time to go into self-pity, Amelia points out that they have to save everyone, including Solon. Ollie knows she's right, but tells Amelia that he can't make the antidote only, so she offers to help him finish it. She grabs the slides that Solon brought out and the two get to work.

Back at Area 62, while Mucus is fanning Void Queen, Squashblight complains about the pool closures in Pine Ridge. Void Queen tells her minions that they need to be more ambitious than going after just pools. Slyther points out that there are pipes under the city and that Squashblight could go into the sewers to affect the citizens. However, Squashblight turns down that suggestion as he's afraid of rats and reveals his armor-like shell wilts in the dark, which interests Void Knight. So, Wreckmate suggests they infect the city's water supply, which Mucus points out is the river, which excites Void Queen as it would poison every home in the city. Seeing that things have gone too far, Void Knight confronts Void Queen and says he's proven his loyalty and begs her to stop this madness before more people get hurt. He shows her the spaceship he finished fixing and says they can leave Earth now, surprising the generals who did not know that Void Knight had a spaceship and are confused by this. Void Knight begs his lover to leave the planet with him after everything they have lost. However, Void Queen rejects Void Knight's offer and destroys their spaceship before blasting at the latter.

Back at Dinohenge, Ollie and Amelia have finished the antidote and try to use it on Solon, but it does not work. Ollie realizes the iron content is too high, but he has no idea how to remove it, as building a molecular filter for it would be difficult. Amelia suggests using her energy bracelet, which he jokes that he does not need to balance his energies, but she urges him to try. Despite mocking it before, Ollie finally swallows his pride and apologizes to Amelia before asking her how could they use it. She points out that the bracelet is made with magnets, and Ollie realizes that they could attract the iron molecules in the antidote. He places the energy bracelet into the antidote mixture, and it manages to attract all the iron in the liquid, turning it from orange to clear white. Ollie and Amelia test the antidote again on Solon and it works, restoring Solon to normal. Happy that their friend is alright, Izzy calls Amelia's communicator and tells her that Squashblight and Wreckmate are at the river. Before they leave, Ollie tells Solon how to make more of the antidote.

Squashblight releases more of his venom into the river as four of the Rangers confront him and Wreckmate, before Ollie and Amelia join them. Wreckmate summons a squad of Hengemen as the Rangers morph. Wreckmate does all the heavy lifting during the fight takes down Aiyon and the Garcia siblings before yelling at Squashblight to fight the Rangers. As before, Squashblight is unaffected by the Rangers' weapons and attacks before leaving to grow giant on Wreckmate’s orders, leaving the Rangers to battle the robot pirate. Meanwhile at Area 62, Void Knight recovers from Void Queen's attack, where she asks her husband if he has learned his lesson. He tells her he has learned: that she must be stopped before teleporting away, with Void Queen saying that was a "big mistake".

Wreckmate blasts the Rangers with his shoulder cannons. Zayto tells Solon to send out a Zord to deal with the giant Squashblight since they're preoccupied with Wreckmate. Solon sends out the Ptera Rex Zord, a combination of the Ptera Freeze and T-Rex Champion Zords, and the Zord takes on Squashblight. As Wreckmate tries to finish off the Rangers, Void Knight teleports in, which distracts Wreckmate for Aiyon to fire a Mosa Blast at him, knocking him down. Before the Rangers attack Void Knight, he tells them that he did not come to fight them and warns them about Void Queen, which confuses them as they thought he sent Squashblight to attack the city. He tells them what Squashblight’s weakness is, which Wreckmate hears and deems him a traitor before retreating to Area 62 to inform Void Queen of his treachery.

After telling the Rangers this information, Void Knight leaves as Squashblight unleashes a giant venom cloud to make it rain over the city. However, Ollie says they can weaken him if they could get Squashblight into the dark cloud. Going with that idea, Zayto summons the Pacha Smash Zords and combines them with the Ptera Rex Zord to form the Ptera Smash Ultrazord. The new Ultrazord fights Squashblight on the clouds before knocking him off them and into the dark clouds. When the Ultrazord attacks Squashblight, the Rangers see that Void Knight was telling the truth as their attacks are more effective than earlier. Zayto summons the Mega Fury Saber as the Rangers defeat Squashblight with the Fusion Ultra Punch. As the cloud clears up, Squashblight turns back into a Sporix Cell, which Zayto claims with the Freeze Battle Armor. The rest of the Rangers go back to the pool and use the antidote on the victims, restoring them to normal.

Back at BuzzBlast, Zayto cannot understand why Void Knight would help them after leading the Sporix Beasts against them, while Javi wonders who Void Queen is. Meanwhile, Amelia finishes her interview with Professor Floyd as Ollie tells Professor Floyd that he was right about his know-it-all attitude and thanks him for being honest, where he points out that Ollie has done a lot of growing. Ollie also apologizes for his rude attitude when he was his student, which Professor Floyd forgives him for and shakes his hand before leaving. Ollie then thanks Amelia for helping him with the antidote and apologizes for all the times he was rude to her about her supernatural beliefs. Amelia accepts the apology, but tells Ollie that he will help her look for any paranormal activity that comes up. Instead of being a jerk about it, Ollie sincerely accepts it.

Dino Fury Keys in New Leaf:

Errors[]

  • After Squashblight turns the water in the pool to a purple poison, Jane and J-Borg are shown and the pool behind them appears normal. In the next scene few seconds later, it's purple again.

Notes[]

  • Total Sporix Beasts Collected:
    • Void Queen: 14
    • Dino Fury Rangers: 15
  • This episode debuts a new intro, which features Void Queen in place of Void Knight, as she's the main antagonist of Season 2.
  • When Professor Floyd is concluding his interview with Amelia at the end of the episode, his slideshow behind him discusses the applications of the "atomic realm" in the future with three talking points: "Super speedy computers!", "Possibility of time travel?", and "Direct implications for law enforcement". The starting letters of these points are a reference to Space Patrol Delta of Power Rangers S.P.D.,[1] a law enforcement organization that is intended to be established or come into prominence in the near future.
  • It was never revealed what happened to Opal the Octopus after she rode off in the taxi.
  • When Void Knight sees the father distraught over his daughter being turned into a tree, it hints that he is or was a father at some point too.
