Necessary Evil is a 2019-2020 crossover story event created by the staff at Boom! Studios and Hasbro that spanned across issues in both Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Go Go Power Rangers. The event ran from June 2019 to June 2020 and included the conclusion of Go Go Power Rangers.
The New Green Ranger story arc sets up the next crossover story event, Unlimited Power as well as the two new ongoing relaunch titles, Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers.[1]
Synopsis[]
The storyline showcases the events of the White Ranger's first year as the leader of the Power Rangers and Jason, Zack and Trini's activities as black ops Rangers in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic. Meanwhile, the Go Go Power Rangers tie-ins show how the three left the team and the comic's version of the events of "White Light". It also deals with some lingering consequences of the events from Shattered Grid, such as an intergalactic cult of Morphin Grid empowered individuals who threaten the existence of Rangers everywhere in the universe.

History[]
On February 17, 2019, BOOM! Studios announced plans for a new creative team and direction for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers following the Beyond the Grid story arc. Go Go Power Rangers writer Ryan Parrott was revealed as the next writer working alongside artist Daniele Di Nicuolo starting with Issue 40. They teased the debut of the White Ranger along with finding out what happened after the Mighty Morphin team disappeared following the events of Shattered Grid.[2]
During WonderCon 2019 on March 31, BOOM! also announced the addition of Sina Grace to the creative team as co-writer for Go Go Power Rangers alongside Ryan Parrott and artist Francesco Mortarino starting with Issue 21. They mentioned the introduction of the Green Ranger to the series for the first time along with the recontextualization of iconic series moments.[3]
On January 22, 2020, BOOM! announced that the Go Go Power Rangers series would end at Issue 32 on April 22, 2020, concluding with the end of the Necessary Evil story arc. However, the final issue was delayed to June 10, 2020.[4]
On July 15, 2020, BOOM! announced that the long-running Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic series was also coming to an end with Issue 55. The series would be replaced with two new ongoing relaunch titles named Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers.[1] MMPR officially ended in October 2020 and both Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers launched the following month with new Issue 1s in the kickoff to the Unlimited Power story event.
