Etymology[]
- Natsume's surname, Tsutsumi (堤), meaning "embankment," is a pun on Tsutsumi (包み), meaning "packed stuff," referencing his portrayal actor's previous role as a delivery man.
- The first two letters of Natsumi's given name, "Natsu", meaning "Summer" (夏 ), may be inspired by the first two pronounced letters of his portrayal actor Haruhi Iuchi (井内 悠陽 Iuchi Haruhi)'s given name, which can mean "Spring" (春 ) as in the season, alluding to how Summer follows Spring.
- According to the Toei Entertainment website, the name "Natsume" refers to jujuba (棗 natsume), used in tea ceremonies. It was given by Akiko Inoue who is a tea ceremony amateur, thinking Natsume is a courteous person.[1]
- His wish to be No.1 in the music band industry is a pun on the name of his portrayal actor's previous role, Taiya Hando, by changing the pronunciation of Hando (ハンド) to Bando (バンド).
Notes[]
- On getting this role, Iuchi was surprised to have received the offer to appear given he had just finished with Boonboomger the previous year. As he was not reprising his Boonboomger role, Iuchi was left intrigued as to what type of character he'd be playing. During filming, he recognized the popularity of Kuwagata Ohger and did his best to not make the character feel "off" in any way.[2]
- According to Daigo Matsuura, Iuchi's filming for the role of Natsume happened at the same day of Boonboomger episode 44's premier, acknowledging how bizarre it was that while the viewers were watching the scene where Taiya mourns of Bundorio's death, his actor just so happens to portray a different character/Sentai warrior.[3]
- According to Toei's production blog, the idea of a Boonboomger actor to become a King-Ohger member is inspired by the idea of Superman trying to be Batman, a trope that had been revisited several times in DC Comics.[4]
