Mujina (ムジナ, Mujina) is an artist-themed giant Mujina Yokai.

History

Around New Year's Eve, and Day, Mujina created a manga that sent the Kakurangers, magically into another world, where they were the target of assassins. His human guise was a manga artist, and his Ninpo seemed to only work around the time of the New Year. He wielded a paint brush-themed magical staff that could create assassins, as well transform him into the various assassins. He could also use the brush to enter and exit the manga world. Sasuke (Ninja Red) managed to gain a hold of his brush staff and used it to bring himself, the other Kakurangers, Mujina, and the assassins into their world, where they defeated said assassins. Mujina enlarged himself afterwards and was destroyed by Samuraiman & Super Kakure Daishogun. TV STORY-Ep. 46: The New Spring Manga Hell

Mujina reappeared, along with all the other defeated Yokai, within the Seal Door after their master Daimaou was finally contained there by the Kakurangers. Reeling that they were now powerless in captivity, the Yokai all vowed that they would one day be reborn and regain their power, cursing humanity. TV STORY-Final Ep.: Sealing!!

• His design is based on an artist and a Mujina which is described to be a Japanese badger-like Yokai.

Etymology

• Mujina's name traditionally refers to a badger yokai, while the character is in fact a tanuki (raccoon dog). However, in some regions of Japan, "mujina" and "tanuki" are used interchangeably.

Notes

• The costume worn by Mujina's Amazoness assassin is a reuse of that worn by TigerRanger, Boi, from Zyuranger.
• When he was disguised as a police officer, Mujina's English line ("Today is Friday in California") before shooting Saizou has became a source of memetic redraws and fan art in late 2021 and early 2022.
  • This was later officially acknowledged by the Bandai Candy Staff Blog, where both lines are mentioned on the post of the upcoming Shokugan Modelling Project Ninjaman kit.
  • The Shout! Factory release of Kakuranger, however, translates this line as "Today is a fine day in California".
