Synopsis[]
NECESSARY EVIL CONTINUES! The ALL NEW OMEGA RANGERS discover a shocking betrayal from one of their own! As Safe Havens turns into a RANGER VS RANGER battleground, not everyone will make it out alive.[1]
Plot[]
Somewhere, the Power Rangers are fighting a monster called Snakenstien in a city using their Thunderzords. Rocky is trying to use the Red Dragon Thunderzord to blast the giant serpent but he has trouble using its fire breath. Their battle isn’t going well with multiple buildings on fire and all of them struggling to contain Snakenstien as it keeps growing longer. Aisha gets sent flying by the snake whipping her Griffin Thunderzord followed by the Red Dragon being knocked down out of the air. Adam is forced to run away as Snakenstien tries to eat him alive inside his Lion Thunderzord until Tommy arrives in the White Tigerzord and given all the damage and the raging flames around the city, he commands Alpha 5 to end the simulation and chalks it as a loss. The Stone Canyon trio apologize to Tommy for their failure, Aisha was trying a new strafing maneuver that backfired and Rocky still can’t get the hang of aiming the flame breath weapon of the Red Dragon.
Kimberly tries to be strict and stress that everyone should train with their Zords on their own time and not during a simulation where the goal is to win without Tommy’s help. She wants to run the simulation again but Tommy says that maybe they should call it a day, encouraging everyone to get home safely, do their homework and get rested up so that they can try again tomorrow.
Irritated, Kimberly asks what that was all about when they leave the simulation room, Tommy just thought that everyone needed a break and he was hoping that the two of them could check out an escape room. Kimberly cannot believe that her boyfriend is asking her out on a date after the team “got their butts kicked by a make believe snake”. Tommy knows it is taking a while for the others to catch up but he feels that the team is getting there. Kimberly argues that it will not happen soon enough if they end up doing things for them. Tommy says there is no Rita or Zedd and Goldar is such a non-threat that he and Kimberly can take him on by themselves.
He used to think that the fate of the universe rested solely on them, that one mistake would be game over for everyone, finding out that there were other Rangers puts his mind at ease and maybe she should ease up on the rookies and try to enjoy herself. Kimberly understands that the White Light turned Tommy into a one man army but the Trio are Rangers too, they want to prove themselves and the both of them owe all three of them a chance to do so.
Back at the abandoned gas station, Squatt is made the volunteer to test the repaired Z Staff while everyone else hides behind a blue rusted 1960 Plymouth, thinking that Squatt is going to explode. Squatt fires a lightning bolt from the staff, which sends him flying back and landing hard on the ground while the scarecrow target has its bucket head turned into a monster. Finster sees that the staff isn’t strong enough to create a full monster but at the very least Squatt survived. Goldar is willing to trade Squatt’s corpse for a new staff any day and insists that they need to get the Z Staff working or none of them will leave Earth alive.
Back on Safehaven, XI discovers the Blue Emissary’s dead body and is distraught, he attempts to contact the Omega Rangers for help only for something right behind him to stop his attempt. Zack thought he heard XI try to contact him on his Omega Morpher’s communicator, but thinks it was nothing and he resumes helping Trini with mortar to build a brick wall for the village. Jason asks if Trini responded to Kimberly’s texts, with Trini unsure what to say, that it bums her out that her best friend got attacked by an alien dog but they were in a geopolitical debate in Switzerland and that she is glad everything worked out.
Zack thinks that either their friends will become suspicious about them being the Omega Rangers and hate them for lying or that they don’t care enough to show up when they are in trouble and that they all hate their friends now. Neither option is great, but Trini tries to be sarcastically optimistic by saying at least they don’t have to go back home anytime soon.
At the Youth Center, Billy gives an update on the search for Goldar and the others while Kimberly listens and simultaneously does gymnastics practice. Billy is certain that his scans are getting closer to pinpointing their location, assuming that they are still on Earth. Kimberly is sure Tommy will be thrilled and then think they need to “hang up their helmets” but based on her past experience with them going from Rita to Zedd, she is certain something worse will come at any moment.
Billy tries to reassure her that the Omega Rangers will come, but she points out that they don’t know who they are and if they will even return when they need them and she is not comfortable just stepping aside and letting someone else deal with the problems they face. Billy believes that they will all have to step aside eventually, pointing out that Zack, Jason and Trini already did and he had hoped on going to college someday. He fully admits that a few months ago, he was terrified of not being the Blue Ranger to the point of losing sleep, but now they have new Rangers and “new colors” (the Stone Canyon Trio) things just change. He then asks Kimberly if she has any idea what she wants to do with her life when her battles are over. She says she doesn’t know and despite gymnastics being a possibility, she says that it is selfish to want to abandon her role as a hero and things are not as exciting in gymnastics when you have fought evil on the Moon. Billy says it is not selfish to have hopes and dreams of your own, being a Power Ranger is a gift, not a prison sentence. Kimberly says even if she was ever done with being a Ranger, it would never be done with her.
Back at Safehaven, Jason, Trini and Zack are in the woods, with Zack worrying about the local alien wildlife that could exist on the planet. Trini reassures him that XI told them most of the more dangerous creatures are further inland, but Jason messes with Zack by saying everything except the giant flying tree snakes. Trini finds the Blue Emissary’s cloak, noting how odd it is that they would leave it in a tree, with Zack also finding that odd because Blue can fly and doesn’t need to climb a tree. They consider contacting XI, only for Garrison Vox to appear with the mangled remains of XI’s head. Trini wonders how Vox got out of the Vault and Zack thinks that they need Kiya again to take him down.
Kiya suddenly appears and they are relieved but Vox says that “we” will take the Rangers down amongst his boasting. Jason readies his team to morph, but Kiya punches him with her super strength and knocks him so hard into the ground that it forms a small crater and he lies unconscious. Trini and Zack are confused as to why Kiya would do that, to which she says it was necessary to prevent escalation of a fight, she demands Trini as a friend to surrender. The two figure out that she was the one who let Garrison Vox out and she has betrayed them and is responsible for whatever happened to the Blue Emissary. Kiya says that the Emissaries and Rangers have had their chance to defend the universe and nearly destroyed it.
Trini and Zack morph and the latter gets grabbed by Vox, who mocks him as he could not defeat him last time without help. Zack proves him wrong by doing a super punch that sends Vox flying, but the brute gets up and laughs, enjoying that his opponent “has a bit of bite to him”.
Trini faces Kiya, who demands that she hand over her Omega Morpher. Trini doesn’t understand why Kiya is doing this, after all they have done for her. Kiya responds that they made her into a weapon for them to use and contain. Trini tries to explain that they defeated Drakkon, fixed reality and are left picking up the pieces ever since and somehow they are to blame for this according to Kiya. Kiya rants that they plot to cause another Shattering by making another Drakkon and she will not let them succeed, calling for Cavotas. Cavotas emerges from the woods and apologizes to Trini and Zack, then unleashes his explosive Grid energy attack on them. The two fall to the ground after the explosion and struggle to get back up, their visors cracked and shattered. Kiya continues speaking her doctrine, believing that the first Shattering was not a mistake, that the Grid gave people like her the blessing of power to be its new chosen guardians through the energy they received and the time of the Rangers is over.
Trini says that Kiya has gone too far and if she wants to stop the Rangers she will have to kill them first, but her speech is interrupted by a teleportation by XI to the Spectrum. Zack is surprised that the android is still alive, to which he say humans are so arrogant to believe that every robotic being has its brain in its head, revealing that he is currently just a hand. Trini interrupts their conversation to tell XI that Jason is in really bad shape and they need to go somewhere to give him medical attention, Zack knows where they need to go but “they will not be happy to see them” as the Spectrum goes to warp speed.
Kiya is disappointed that they escaped, she wanted the deaths of her former allies to be quick and painless. Vox says that there is no fun in such a thing and Cavotas apologizes for being a failure and he begs her not to go back inside his canister as punishment, insisting he will try harder next time. Kiya grabs Blue’s cloak and walks towards the Vault, as they still have preparations to make.
On Earth at Angel Grove, Bulk got suckered into going on a field trip to the Petrified Forest with Candace and Skull, which he is angry about as he thinks it is lame. Candace thinks it could be fun as the fossilized wood is as old as the dinosaurs and a part of history. Skull asks Mrs. Appleby to stop the bus as he sees Goldar right in front of him. Goldar asks the “pathetic citizens of Earth” to volunteer for an experiment as he uses the Z Staff to create monsters from different vehicles in his path, including the school bus that Bulk, Candace and Skull are on, calling out the Power Rangers to come and face their doom.
In the Command Center, Zordon and the others talk about the possibility of ending the Power Rangers. Tommy thinks that he wants to be sure Zordon needs them since the Omega team is active and if they have failed the expectations of the sage. Zordon says that there is nothing more devastating than how one imagines things are supposed to be. He once dreamed eons ago, that his work would be finished, that he would no longer have to put good people in harm’s way again and be able to move on from his current form.
Zordon starts to say that maybe the day is finally coming, but he is interrupted by the loud sound and blinding light of a large teleportation. Zack and Trini are carrying Jason unmasked and pleading for help as he needs emergency medical treatment, blowing their covers as Omega Rangers to save their friend and leader.
