But it's only a matter of time before the enemy breaks through, and it will take the combined might of every surviving Ranger to enact their plan![1][2]
Plot[]
The comic opens with a monologue from Lord Zedd, stating that he always believed he would be victorious even when he failed. Even in his darkest hour, he believed that his failures were trials that would strengthen him and show him how to survive. He even believed that Rita would be guided by fate and destined never to lose, yet she has. Now he wonders if there is no way out and he has truly lost everything, is this the moment where he gives in to despair? He walks away, having sealed Rita back in her dumpster and keeping it beneath the palace. He takes her wand and then leaves.
At the Promethea Bermuda compound, Billy is walking through the hallway and stops to clean his glasses, only to hallucinate seeing Grace’s dead body. Billy thinks that he really needs to get some sleep, only to hear Dr. Morgan cry out for help and upon racing into the shield generator he sees her fighting Kiya. Kendall explains that Kiya has tried to steal a Power Egg and destabilized the shield, which Kiya responds that she is doing them all a favor, with both Kendall and Billy not seeing how getting rid of their only line of defense is helping. Billy thrusts his Power Lance into Kiya and Kendall decks her hard with a punch, knocking her out cold. Billy asks what she did, which Kendall doesn’t know the answer to but they need to work fast to fix the problem before they completely lose their Planetary Shield and the bad guys breach inside.
Elsewhere, a montage of events happening with the Rangers is shown, with Tommy and Kimberly meditating in Angel Grove Park, Aisha and Matt having a boxing sparring session in Promethea and Trini and Zack are on the Moon fending off some Thralls. Tommy trips and falls when he tries to start a jog with Kimberly, Aisha accidentally punches Matt hard in the jaw and Trini and Zack finish off the Thralls.
Kimberly checks on her boyfriend to see if he’s okay, but Tommy shakes it off, saying that his time being held captive has thrown him off a bit. Kimberly feels the need to apologize about their arguments earlier about the Stone Canyon Trio. Tommy says it is okay but she says nothing is okay right now especially her, Tommy says he is here for her and she will be okay. Kimberly starts to cry saying she doesn’t know what they are even fighting for anymore as the Rangers are losing and asks Tommy when will they ever get to win this, worrying about when the Planetary Shield will fail. They have already lost half of their friends to Dark Specter’s control, but Tommy knows things look bleak but reassures her that he believes every moment they are together and can fight freely they are winning. Kimberly hugs him, saying he is right and thanks him for keeping her hope alive.
Aisha apologizes for hitting Matt, giving him an ice pack and applying it to his cheek, but Matt says it is fine, sparring is like a dance and she just needs to communicate with her partner. She understands that, when she was with Rocky and Adam, they were in perfect sync almost like a hive mind. Matt reassures her that they will get them back, reminding her that he was corrupted too so they are still there under all that dark magic. She asked what it felt like, with him describing it as like perpetually drowning underwater. Matt apologizes for describing the corruption, but Aisha is grateful because this means their friends are not dead and there's still hope. Aisha gave Matt a kiss for giving her hope.
Zack and Trini are sitting down and he notices that she injured her shoulder. She says that she did not even notice, but Zack says she will notice tomorrow if she doesn’t get it checked out. Trini hopes by then they will have reinforcements, but Zack thinks that they are doing fine with just the two of them. Trini disagrees, saying that they have lost all their Omega teammates and cries in despair that maybe she was never meant to be a Red Ranger. Zack assures Trini that they still got each other, and they won't lose as long as they have each other. Trini thanks Zack for being her friend as the two kiss.
On the Moon, Rita suddenly hears the voices of Squatt and Baboo outside her dumpster, who snuck into the underground chamber to bust her out. Baboo insists that they hurry because if Lord Zedd finds out there will be dire consequences for them both. Rita asks Squatt how he managed to escape Dark Specter’s watchful eye, to which he says that the evil being is injured and distracted by being in constant pain and the two of them managed to slip away. The two are going to try and get her wand back and then propose an alliance with Zedd to try and stop Dark Specter while he’s vulnerable. Rita calls them both fools, as they have already secured Dark Specter’s victory.
On Safehaven, Dark Specter writhes in agony on his throne. Angel proposes to aid him in the conquest of the Grid, but the cosmic despot thinks a mere human is a poor substitute for Rita’s magic. Angel thinks that his knowledge and patience would serve his master well as he recreated his entire universe for the sole purpose of reclaiming it. He will launch an attack on Earth to deal with the remaining Rangers while enticing Dark Specter with the chance of greater power by “claiming a prize” elsewhere. Angel then orders a corrupted Tanya Sloan to give details about The Void that she originally told him to Dark Specter and a certain location, which the corrupted Zeo Ranger is all but too happy to divulge to her master.
At Promethea, Kiya is doing pushups in her cell until Trini walks in, she remembers Kiya abandoning them at Safehaven and then just suddenly shows up to do pushups in a cell. Kiya says at least Trini didn’t give her own powers to a cat, which Trini claps back that Yale earned his right to the Blue Omega powers and he deserves it far more than Kiya ever did. Kiya knows Trini isn’t here to dissect their complicated friendship, with Trini coldly saying that they stopped being friends when she tried to kill her. Kiya says that is fair and she would try to kill her all over again, but they are both past that now.
Trini starts to interrogate Kiya, asking why she tried to steal the Power Eggs, to which Kiya says she needed them for something bigger as the Shield was failing and wouldn’t last forever. Trini points out that it is Kiya’s fault for destabilizing the shield, but she says that she had no other options. Kiya reveals that she ran away after blowing up the Master Arch, trying to outrun the Grid infection and gather her own team of allies. She went to Edenoi, but it had already fallen under Dark Specter’s control and had to fight Thralls unmorphed to escape. She went to Python XI and found the Cosmic Fury Rangers but they became infected upon trying to morph despite Kiya pleading them not to do so. She soon realized that the infection is everywhere and there is nowhere left to run.
At first Trini thinks Kiya is now just cowering in the safety of their shield, but Kiya reveals that she tried to steal the Power Eggs because she needed them to make a bomb of pure Grid Energy by hacking the Grid to trigger the explosion. Trini thinks that is completely insane as that would completely shatter the Grid permanently, but realizes Kiya already knows that. Kiya says that Dark Specter has already won and there are no more options, unless Trini has a better idea. Billy is watching the two from the monitors from the security room and thinks for a minute.
He returns to the Command Center and makes a proposal to Zordon that they use both White Tiger Coins as a means to halt the corruption since the White Light by design cannot be corrupted, Kendall thinks that they could diffuse the power of the White Light to protect more than one user like it did with Ranger Slayer and Tommy. Ranger Slayer Kimberly asks if that is even worth the effort since they have lost a considerable amount of Rangers, with half the Omegas, almost all of the Drakkon Rangers and two of the Mighty Morphin team infected. She also notes that the Hyperforce Team has been gone for days with no contact. Kendall says for now the important thing is to cobble together a team and go on the offensive by having a means to morph and fight outside the shield without getting infected.
Kimberly knows that Tommy would not be able to morph if his coin gets taken to be used in this plan. Zordon sees her point, asking Kendall if just one coin can provide the results that they need, to which she says that isn’t possible. Kimberly objects to this idea and Billy tries to explain that they need both coins to keep the White Light energy stable, comparing it to completing an electrical circuit. Kendall says there is no other option since the Planetary Shield is starting to fail and Kiya’s meddling with the Power Eggs accelerated the process. There are fluctuating gaps in the shield and in moments it will shut down permanently from power depletion.
Kimberly is stubborn about this, saying that they are going to take their strongest Ranger off the battlefield especially since they already lost Drakkon, but her older alternate self says that if there is anything they learned from Drakkon it is that no one Ranger is stronger than a team. Kimberly decides that it should be Tommy’s call and not theirs and Zordon agrees. Tommy says being a Power Ranger is the most important thing in his life and who he is, but what is far more important is that he keeps his friends and teammates safe, deciding to give up his White Ranger powers to protect everyone.
With the shield weakened, Angel is able to teleport in with an army of Thralls as well as the corrupted Mighty Morphin Red and Black Rangers near the Bermuda compound, with Angel hoping to take control of its Master Arch. Taylor, Aisha, Coinless Trini and Matt try to hold them off, noticing that the Planetary Shield is now gone and a miasma of infection has started. The infected Rangers target Aisha, taunting and tormenting her psychologically and emotionally as well as trying to attack Matt. Angel faces off against Taylor and Trini, proving to be a bit too fast for them to keep up with. The group is overwhelmed, with Coinless Trini saying that they need to Morph, Taylor is worried about the fact they are vulnerable to infection without the shield but Trini says that a fellow Yellow should have faith.
They all morph, only to be surprised that their costumes have been altered to have bits of the White Ranger’s outfit and they are all still themselves rather than being evil puppets of Dark Specter. They wonder how this is possible, only to see Angel get shot in the back by Kendall and Billy saying that they found a workaround to morph.
The 10 Ranger team prepares to face off against Angel and his forces, but Angel decides to retreat for now. Aisha swipes Ranger Slayer’s bow which surprised her and she wonders what she is doing. Aisha says that she will not lose her friends again and if this method worked on Ranger Slayer, it would work on Rocky and Adam. She shoots both Adam and Rocky before they can teleport away, the White Light arrows causing them agony and to pass out but frees them from the infection. The Rangers carry them and teleport them to the Command Center. Zordon says Rocky and Adam are fine physically but mentally they need a bit of time with Aisha saying that Matt is staying with them to help them with that. Ranger Slayer Kimberly says it is not easy to shake off the trauma of being controlled as the memories of what you have done linger, but her younger self says that they can be positive since they have a way to purify Rangers and get their friends back.
Kim says that her optimism is a little premature as they don’t know how many Ranger teams are now under Dark Specter’s control, with the worst case scenario being all of them and the White Tiger Coins only have so much bandwidth. Billy says that it is not necessarily hopeless, as they can create a large pulse of pure Grid energy to not only purify the Rangers but sterilize the entire Morphin Grid of Dark Specter’s infection. Kendall says that kind of power can be created by morphing but they need to amplify it, Zack and Trini wonder where they could even look to find something like that. Trini says even with all ten of them or the surviving Rangers, it would not be enough power to make a dent in Dark Specter’s infection. Kendall suggests using the Power Eggs, but Phantom Ranger says that is a bad idea as they are now unstable and could obliterate the Grid entirely.
Kim remembers her time in The Void and has an idea, they could cross dimensions and go to the Splintered Star, a planet made of Zeo Crystals, to amplify their power to create the pulse. If they can get there, then they have a chance to win this.
Back on the Moon, Squatt is trying to convince Rita to leave her Dumpster after failing to open it but won’t give up on her. Rita on the other hand is in despair and says that the Rangers can have their hope and faith whatever the outcome, she has resigned herself to remaining imprisoned and tells Squatt that he and Baboo are free of their servitude to her. They must run away to somewhere safe and just carry on without her. She says that she is done with all of it, having stripped herself of her Mistress Vile armor and letting her hair down, wearing a pure white dress…
