Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind is a side-scrolling action-adventure video game developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Hasbro Retro Arcade and Atari, Inc. The game is based on characters from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.[1][2]
The game was released digitally on December 10, 2024 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.[3] The game received a physical release on May 30, 2025 for the PlayStation 5 and Switch alongside a deluxe edition that includes a steelbook, poster, lenticular postcard, and six collectible Power Ranger trading cards.[4]
A comic book tie-in published by Boom! Studios was announced for release on August 6, 2025.[5]
Development[]
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind was announced during Summer Game Fest 2024 on June 7, 2024.[6]
In November 2024, Digital Eclipse announced that online play would see some delays. PlayStation and PC platforms will support two-player online play at launch while two-player online support is expected to be added to Xbox and Switch platforms within a few weeks after launch. Support for additional online players for all versions will launch soon after. The Switch version was originally going to be delayed to December 19 but was pushed back up to its original December 10 release date.[7][8]
Voice recording was done during the 2024 SAG-AFTRA video game strike, though the studio had signed an interim agreement to allow union-based actors to work on the game.[9]
A week after release, a major update patch was released by Digital Eclipse in response to the many criticisms reviewers cited towards the game's physics, difficulty and user interface. In addition to tweaking the gameplay physics and adjusting enemy health to better balance the game, both online co-op and the ability to change Rangers without quitting the story mode were added.
Deluxe Edition contents
In February 2025, Digital Eclipse announced several new features were coming in a free update to all platforms. The additions include upgradeable Rangers with stat point allocation, new gameplay modifiers called Morphers, a new Power Blast attack, ground recovery update, and remappable controls. They also mentioned plans for a spring update to include an online multiplayer option for up to six machines.[10]
The game received a physical release on May 30, 2025 for the PlayStation 5 and Switch alongside a deluxe edition that includes a steelbook, poster, lenticular postcard, and six collectible Power Ranger trading cards.
Gameplay[]
The game is primarily a retro-styled arcade beat ‘em up where players fight through waves of different enemies and bosses throughout the levels. Interspersed throughout these levels are Super Scaler-modeled levels where players pilot their Zords or vehicles while avoiding enemy fire and shoot back at the enemies on screen or pilot the Megazord in first-person combat during the final phase against a boss.
Story[]
In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind, the team faces off against a robotic reincarnation of the Power Rangers' long-time nemesis. Robo-Rita has conjured a portal to send herself back in time so she can finally vanquish the Power Rangers by forming an alliance with her younger self. Working together, Robo-Rita and Rita Repulsa rewind, rewrite, and remix the past in an attempt to stop the very formation of the Power Rangers, altering the course of history. Will the two Ritas and their army of monstrous enemies from across the MMPR timeline finally succeed in destroying the Power Rangers? Or will these teenagers with attitude learn to work together and counter this catastrophic chronological collaboration?[11]

Notes[]
- As revealed by the game's story, the game explores a "what-if" scenario to the events of the Netflix special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always. In this scenario, Robo Rita's plan goes further, and she manages to use the time portal.
- During a roller coaster segment shown in the trailer, there are color-coded coaster cars for each Ranger, as well as a sixth green coaster car. This implies Tommy Oliver (as the Green Ranger) will be an unlockable character. This was eventually confirmed on August 28, 2024.
- Once the game's story mode has been completed and the Green Ranger is unlocked, Tommy can be selected and used in the games earlier levels. This means he can also be used against the Evil Green Ranger and Dragonzord in the game's later levels.
- The individual Zord used during the game's Super Scaler segments are determined by the chosen Ranger. The Dragonzord becomes playable after completing the game and unlocking the Green Ranger, but the Megazord is still used in boss battles.
- The game's end credits pay tribute to both Jason David Frank and Thuy Trang.
