For the comic story based on Power Rangers Jungle Fury, see Master Plan (Jungle Fury).

Master Plan[1] is the ninth/penultimate episode of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. It serves as the second/penultimate part of the three-part series finale, marks the debut of Ollie as the Cosmic Fury Blue Ranger, Master Zedd, and the Cosmic Blaster, as well as the only appearance of the Cosmic Fury Ultrazord, the destruction of Inkworth and the Cosmic Fury Zords, and the final appearance of Zayto's Cosmic Fury Zenith Ranger Form.

Synopsis[]

The connection to the Morphin Grid is in danger, unless the team can travel to Eltar and take back the Master Captivator and Ollie — without backup. [2]

Plot[]

During Billy's visit to the Cosmic Fury Ranger's ship, the team briefs him on Zayto's condition - the use of the magic the Morphin Masters used to revive him will eventually cost him his life. Efforts to find ways of reversing or slowing the process had failed.

The Rangers then receive a transmission from Eltar, with Zedd gloating that the plan to return Ollie Akana to normal by destroying the Tricera Statue had failed. He could no longer morph into a Dino Fury Ranger, but Slyther and Mucus were now captured and set to be tortured. Bajillia also reveals that she survived her last encounter with the Rangers, having regenerated her body from a single tentacle.

As Zedd gloats, Ollie shoots him and Bajillia with the Tricera Blaster, revealing the plan did work and he's good again, having faked remaining evil since the Tricera Statue was destroyed. He quickly uses the transmission to warn the Rangers that Zedd planned to absorb the Morphin Masters in the Master Captivator to become one himself. Zedd blasts him to the ground, imprisons him, and cuts the feed.

Zayto explains that while the Morphin Grid cannot be destroyed, its link fueling Rangers can be if something as evil as Zedd uses Morphin Master power to access it. Amelia declares that the team needs to go to Eltar now to rescue Ollie, Slyther, and Mucus and stop Zedd. As she preps the engine, Billy advises against going immediately. Eltar will be heavily guarded due to it being Zordon's home world, and all the other Ranger teams are too busy fighting Zedd and transporting refugee aliens to Newtech City. Amelia acknowledges the risk but thinks it's their only choice. Reluctantly, Billy wishes her luck with a "May the power protect you" before teleporting off the ship.

As the Rangers arrive on Eltar, Inkworth grows giant to keep them from Zedd's fortress. The team forms the Cosmic Fury and Cosmic Dragon Megazords, but Inkworth uses ink from his mouth to make the sky rain such ink on the Zords. The Zords take heavy damage until Aiyon uses the Gold, Silver, and Pink Zords to clear the sky. That accomplished, Amelia orders the combination of the Megazords into an Ultrazord, using the combination to defeat Inkworth.

Inside the fortress, Ollie is trying to break free of his restraints, with a Copyguard holding his Tricera Blaster and taunting him. He laments the evil things he did and wonders what Amelia will think of him now. As Slyther tries to cheer him up, explosions from the Rangers' assault on the fortress reach the hallway. The Copyguard joins the fray, only to be defeated along with the rest of the guards and slide the blaster back into the room. Javi and Amelia free Ollie, Slyther, and Mucus before the group demorphs. Amelia hugs Ollie, reassuring him that she doesn't blame him for anything he did while brainwashed and that their relationship is intact.

Picking up the Tricera Blaster, Ollie warns the team that the Master Captivator's modifications to pour Morphin Master energy into Zedd are complete. Before they can leave, however, Bajillia remotely seals the chamber and activates a 20-second detonation timer for a bomb powerful enough to kill everyone inside, even in Ranger form. With the doors sealed and teleportation blocked, not even Ollie has a way out.

Zayto decides to use his magic to generate a shield powerful enough to protect everyone from the bomb, even as it blows a hole through the ceiling. As the dust settles, Zayto faints, having used the last of his magic. The Morphin Grid appears above them to collect Zayto's soul. Refusing to accept the situation, Aiyon's soul grabs ahold of Zayto's, causing his body to fall unconscious as Zayto's body disappears. Zayto's Cosmic Morpher and Morphin Master Staff remain, and the Rangers bring them along as they teleport to the ship.

Slyther confirms Aiyon's alive but without any brain activity, leaving it unclear how to wake him up. Meanwhile, the Rangers find the energy signature of the Master Captivator in the mountains and theorize Zedd must be there. Ollie explains that the Morphin Masters' energy will make Zedd a hundred times more powerful than even the Nemesis Beast. Javi and Fern note that they'll at least have the element of surprise on their side, but Ollie says they'll need something more powerful to prevail. He proposes combining all of the Cosmic Fury weapons, plus his Tricera Blaster, into a superweapon that might be able to hit Zedd. As he gets to work, Solon notices the Zenith Cosmic Orb change color to become the Blue Cosmic Orb.

Back on Eltar, Zedd has fully absorbed energy from the Master Captivator before the Rangers arrive, leaving him impressed that they escaped Bajillia's trap, but doesn't know Aiyon did as well since he is back on the ship. Zedd then stands up, fully engulfed with Morphin Master energy before effectively transforming, complete with a cape and a new staff, and demonstrates his new power by carving a 'Z' into a mountainside, but the angle makes the Rangers think it's an 'N'. Amelia then remarks to Zedd that he doesn't scare them before Zedd rephrases himself as 'Master Zedd', sarcastically thanking Ollie for his part, then claims it was cruel to drag him along when he can't morph.

However, Ollie shows off Zayto's Cosmic Orb, now sporting the Triceratops spirit before the Rangers morph with Ollie using Zayto's Morpher. The Rangers soon combine their weapons, including Aiyon's, to form the Cosmic Blaster and fire at Zedd, who easily blocks it before firing his staff at them, knocking them all down, and losing their Cosmic Blaster. Javi soon summons the Cosmic Zords, only for Zedd to easily destroy them all before he starts to fire at Izzy, Javi, and Fern, with Amelia using it as a distraction to fine-tune a new strategy before the three try to shoot Zedd with their Cosmic Morpher, but he isn't fazed. Amelia and Ollie strategize a new plan by using the Master Captivator, intending to absorb Zedd into it, however, Scrozzle beats them to the punch by having the Zentinels guarding it to fire on Zedd, sending him into the Master Captivator, on Bajillia's order, as she arrives with the presenter and a film crew before some Zentinels pick up the Cosmic Blaster and shoot the Rangers, knocking them down and causing them to demorph before more Zentinels surround them to make sure they don't move as Bajillia is interviewed over her triumphant deception against Zedd. Scrozzle then arrives to inform them that with Zedd inside the Master Captivator, destroying him inside will create a wave, just like Zordon's, but with pure evil energy, wiping out all that is good, including the Rangers. Mucus and Slyther tell Solon to call additional Rangers for backup while they try to find a way to create a diversion.

Bajillia and Scrozzle then reveal how they used Zedd's vengeance against the Morphin Masters to gain his trust, invade Earth, and absorb the masters to become one himself before the ultimate betrayal. With the Rangers surrounded, the Zentinels holding their Cosmic Blaster turn to aim at the Master Captivator, preparing to fire as Bajillia, Scrozzle, and the host begin a countdown for them.

Errors[]

  • The Rangers refer to the Cosmic Fury and Cosmic Dragon Megazords as the "Cosmic Fury and Dragon Fury Megazords."

Notes[]

  • Cosmic Fury Megazord Combinations:
  • Cosmic Dragon Megazord Combinations:
  • Cosmic Fury Ultrazord Combinations:
  • Much like the Ninja Ultrazord and the Shogun Ultrazord from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the Cosmic Fury Ultrazord is only used once.
  • Several references to past Power Ranger seasons are made.
    • Slyther says "A countdown. To destruction?" which is a reference to the two-part season finale of Power Rangers in Space.
    • Bajillla Naire's plan of using Lord Zedd to sacrifice him to create a wave similar to the one created by Zordon, only with the reverse effect of wiping out all good in the universe is also a reference to the two-part season finale of Power Rangers in Space.
    • Billy mentions the planet Eltar being the home of his former mentor Zordon, and that Lord Zedd is proud to have conquered the home of his former enemy.
    • Billy utters the catchphrase "May the Power protect you", a phrase that has been said by Zordon.
    • Lord Zedd mentions Dark Specter, the main antagonist of Power Rangers In Space.
    • Billy references Newtech City, the hometown of Power Rangers S.P.D., as the asylum for all aliens losing their planets in the battle against Lord Zedd. As Power Rangers S.P.D. takes place two years after Cosmic Fury, this line explains how Earth transitions from a planet where humans are a supermajority of all sentient life to one with a more robust intergalactic community.
  • The alien interviewer saying that Scrozzle has a real talent for voices is an in-joke referring to Scrozzle's voice actor voicing both him and Slyther.
