Personality[]

Mai is a masculine, tomboyish and headstrong woman with a rough and aggressive fighting style. She is strong-willed, independent and determined as she rises above challenges like her motif, the Phoenix. Despite this, Mai is also a very caring and kind person, willing to help others and save them with her life. She is good friends with Sayaka, despite Sayaka having an intelligent, elegant and graceful personality.

Like the other Changemen, Mai was blessed with the Earth Force. In her case, she received the Earth Force of the fiery Phoenix.

  • Mai Tsubasa is portrayed by Mai Ooishi (大石 麻衣 Ōishi Mai).
  • As ChangePhoenix, her suit actor was Yuichi Hachisuka (蜂須賀 祐一 Hachisuka Yūichi).
  • In the Korean dub of Changeman which aired in South Korea by keeping the Japanese title as Lightning Squadron Changeman, Mai is renamed Lee Joo-yeon (이주연?), while she keeps his ranger designation (체인지 피닉스 Cheinji Pinigseu?). She is voiced by Kim Seong-hui (김성희?).

The ChangePhoenix Ranger Key (チェンジフェニックスレンジャーキー Chenji Fenikkusu Renjā Kī) is Mai Tsubasa's personal Ranger Key and what became of her powers after she along with the rest of the 34 Super Sentai sacrificed their powers to end the Great Legend War.

This key along with the majority of the Ranger Keys were collected by the Red Pirates and later used by the Gokaigers. The ChangePhoenix Ranger Key was mainly used by Ahim de Famille (Gokai Pink), who used it to fight as ChangePhoenix.

The Changeman Keys, along with all the Ranger Keys of the first 33 Super Sentai, were briefly taken by the Black Cross King and turned into Ranger puppets that were fought by the Gokaigers and the Goseigers. The puppet Changemen fired their Power Bazooka alongside the Flashmen, Maskmen, Livemen, and Turborangers, only to be swiftly defeated by the individual finisher attacks of the Gokaigers and Goseigers as they emerged from the resulting fireball.
