"Come on!"

"Huh?!"
―Magmavore when confronted by the Supertrain Megazord and his final word before his destruction.[src]

Magmavore was a giant rock golem and later lava golem Demon who served as the main antagonist of the episode "Lightspeed Teamwork" and later on the central antagonist of the episode "Rising From Ashes".

History[]

Diabolico orders Jinxer to create a monster to destroy Mariner Bay so Jinxer summons a meteor to crash into the city.

As the Rangers deploy in their Rail Rescues, Magmavore emerges and attacks the city with his fireballs which cause a large tower full of people to catch fire. Whilst the Rangers are saving people, Magmavore goes into a sort of hibernation within the volcano to regain power.

After the Lightspeed Rangers save the people from the tower using tools from the Rescue Bird, the monster returns and attacks Carter in Pyro Rescue 1 and gets it stuck in the solidified lava and bits from the building which he has just pushed over on top of although Joel in Aero Rescue 3 lifts him free before Magmavore can crush it. Realizing that they need to end this for the fate of Mariner Bay, they form the Lightspeed Megazord to fight against the monster. The monster tries to prevent it from being formed by shooting it with his fireballs but Aero Rescue 3 opens fire on him and stops him from preventing it from being formed. Magmavore can't defeat the Megazord and is easily overpowered by the Lightspeed Ladder Arms. The Rangers' Megazord then uses its extending arms and throw him into the meteor volcano, causing him to explode. Tvicon TV STORY-Lightspeed Teamwork

Upon returning to Earth, Queen Bansheera resurrects Magmavore into his advanced form where he gains a giant cudgel and he rises from the ground which causes the caves Miss Fairweather and her crew are in begin to collapse.

The Lightspeed Megazord tries to battle the monster but is quickly defeated and even the Lightspeed Megazord Saber is destroyed. Bansheera then resurrects Trifire and the two monsters defeat the Lightspeed Megazord and send it into a pit. Following that, Diabolico sends Trifire and Magmavore into hibernation within the volcano to prepare for the eruption.

After the Rangers rescue Ms. Fairweather and her crew, they go back to the Megazord and try to battle the monsters again but to no avail although they manage to hold their own this time.

When instructed by Miss Fairweather, the Rangers take the Lightspeed Megazord apart and bring the individual Zords back to the Rail Rescues which they then take into the skies to form the new Supertrain Megazord. The Megazord shocks the monsters and it easily destroys Trifire with its Gatling Blasters and finally Magmavore with its Turbine Super Charge which makes him faceplant and explode.

However, his destruction sends fireballs flying towards the volcano, setting it off. Luckily, the Supertrain Megazord puts the volcano on ice with a couple of freeze missiles, which ends the monster's final attempt to destroy them once and for all. Tvicon TV STORY-Rising From Ashes

Personality[]

Magmavore was a very violent and destructive monster who destroyed everything at his path. He was very stubborn and primitive but very dangerous and in his original appearance, he only spoke in loud roars. After being resurrected, Magmavore retained the same personality but had gained enough intelligence to speak.

Forms[]

LR Magmavore

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Chest Fireball Barrage: Magmavore could fire a barrage of huge orange-brown fireballs from his chest. They were powerful enough to rip right through the middle of buildings and cause large explosions on impact.
  • Burrowing: Magmavore can burrow up or under the ground.
  • Magma-implosion: Whilst underground, Magmavore could make fire pillars erupt from the ground and spread magma on the ground.

Abilities[]

  • Strength: Being a giant rock golem-themed monster, Magmavore possesses a great deal of raw strength, being able to push a burning skyscraper over on top of Carter and his Zord and smash through the outer layer of his meteor with little effort.
  • Durability: Thanks to his rock-like skin, Magmavore is extremely durable.

Weaknesses[]

to be added

Arsenal[]

  • Fists: Though lacking a weapon, Magmavore could fight with just his bare fists.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Burrowing: Magmavore can burrow up or under the ground like he did in his original form.
    • Earthquake Causing: Magmavore's burrowing caused the mountains and caves he was at to rock and shake.
  • Resurrecting Vision: Magmavore could fire red energy lasers from his eyes that brought Trifire back to life and powered him up into his advanced form.
  • Chest Fireball Barrage: Magmavore retained his ability to launch a barrage of orange-brown fireballs from his chest like before, but they are more powerful than the original and he can fire red fireballs too.
    • Final Barrage: When he was destroyed, Magmavore launched them at a mountain as a final attempt to burn down Mariner Bay.

Abilities[]

  • Strength: Magmavore was ten times stronger thanks to Queen Bansheera resurrecting him, as he was able to smash the Lightspeed Megazord's Saber with one strike of his club.
  • Durability: When empowered, Magmavore possesses thick skin that's more durable than before, being able to shrug off a slash across his stomach from the Lightspeed Megazord Saber.
  • Speech: After his revival, Magmavore appears to have gained the ability to speak.

Weaknesses[]

to be added

Arsenal[]

  • Magma Club: Unlike his original form, Magmavore was armed with a huge club for combat which was strong enough to break the Lightspeed Megazord's Saber with a single swing.

Behind the Scenes[]

Portrayal[]

  • Magmavore was voiced by Kim Strauss (who voiced Ninjor five years before and Jinxer in Lightspeed Rescue) the first time although he only provided roars.
    • Magmavore was then voiced by David Lodge (who also voiced Loki in the same season) in his advanced form. In his advanced form, he was capable of speech.

Design[]

  • Although not made clear in Power Rangers, Magmavore was based upon a lava variation on the golem, an animated anthropomorphic being from Jewish folklore that is magically created entirely from inanimate matter.

Etymology[]

  • Magmavore’s name was not stated in his original appearance and only revealed in “Rising From The Ashes.”
    • It is unknown how the Rangers knew Magmavore's name since they never heard his name during their first encounter with him.

Notes[]

  • In GoGoV, Magmavore was the first monster of the week and Ghouligan was American exclusive.
    • This was changed to have a heavier focus on the characters for Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue's first episode.
  • Magmavore is the first monster in Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue to be a giant and not be created by Jinxer's card.
  • Magmavore was the first villain in the post-Zordon Era to attack a Megazord during its transformation and combination sequence and the second villain overall to do so. The first villain to accomplish this was Astronema, when she attacked the Astro Megazord in its first transformation.
    • Magmavore is however the first monster in the entire franchise to attack a Megazord whilst it is forming.
