Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4 is the fourth issue of the five-part crossover mini-series between the Power Rangers of the Boom! Studios comics and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from IDW Publishing.

Synopsis

It's the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as you've never seen them before vs Shredder! No, really. Just imagine the coolest thing we could do and, yeah, we're doing it.[1]

Plot

As Wyldfyre and the Putty Patrollers ravage New York City, April and the Ninja Turtles arrive and morph for the first time, dubbing themselves the "Turtle Rangers". Meanwhile back in the Turtles' lair, the Rangers are arguing over if they should be sitting around doing nothing, or if that's all they can do without their powers. Splinter reminds them they are Power Rangers because of who they are, they are not who they are because they are Power Rangers. The Rangers arm themselves with weapons and stealth gear around the lair, dubbing themselves the "Ninja Rangers". The five leave with Casey Jones to find Tommy.

On the streets the Turtles and April are enjoying their new powers as they fight the Putties, and are able to cut loose on them without fear since they aren't human. Wyldfire also gets more serious and begins shooting fire around them, forcing them back. April takes charge of the group and fires arrows from the Power Bow, but Wyldfire burns them up and mocks her for trying wooden arrows against fire. The Turtles realize this may be a bigger challenge than they thought. In the sewers Casey drives the Turtle Van with the Rangers. Billy planted a micro-transmitter on Shredder during their fight and is trying to hone in on the signal to track him. He gets the reading and the group shortly arrives at an underground cavern with the Technodrome. The six sneak in and stealthily take down some Foot without being noticed and begin to search. Baxter Stockman is preparing to gather some tissue samples from Tommy, wanting to study how the energy of the Morphin Grid has affected his body, but the Rangers arrive and Stockman retreats. With Tommy freed the group begin to leave the Technodrome but are ambushed by more of the Foot led by Tyler.

The Turtles and April struggle against Wyldfire, unable to get close with his fire attacks everywhere. Raphael saves a civilian from being crushed by a falling streetlight and she thanks him. Realizing the civilians are in danger the longer the fight continues, the five combine their weapons into the Power Blaster, and with a shout of "Cowabunga", destroy Wyldfire. The five celebrate their victory and bask in the applause of the grateful civilians, not used to the adoration. Meanwhile the Rangers and Casey fight the Foot in the Technodrome. Stockman calls to them over the intercom and reveals the next "evolution" of the Foot Clan - the Putty Soldier Elite, hybrids created by combining the Foot Elite with some of the substance used to create Putties. The Putty Soldiers Elite attack everyone in their way, including Tyler and the other Foot, shocking them that they would attack their allies. Tommy saves Tyler and urges him to realize the Foot doesn't care about any of them, and asks him to escape with him, refusing to leave him behind again. Tyler takes Tommy's hand and the Rangers and Tyler's Foot flee.

Rita and Shredder trade barbs, Rita is furious that Shredder allowed the Rangers to rescue Tommy and Shredder retorts that Rita's monster wasn't able to defeat the Turtles. Rita suggests asking Shredder's allies in Dimension X for help, but he refuses, as the cost of their involvement would be "too high", and they must appease them by delivering them the Rangers' morphers. With their alliance not yielding results, Rita is dubious if it is worth it, and Shredder suggests a more direct approach instead of blaming each other. The Technodrome surfaces in Central Park and Rita makes Bebop and Rocksteady grow. The Turtles and the Rangers watch on the news and are worried about the level of destruction the enlarged brutes could cause. Zordon and Alpha haven't yet managed to restore the Rangers' connection to their Power Coins, so the only option is for the Turtles and April to take control of the Megazord and face Bebop and Rocksteady.

Covers

Errors

  • To be added

Notes

  • The cover by Diego Galindo is a homage cover to Raphael Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (April 1985)
  • The Turtles take up the Rangers' morphers to match colors, with Leonardo and Raphael staying blue and red, Michelangelo taking yellow, Donatello taking black, and April, the lone female of the group, taking pink. As an allusion to their usual colors, in some panels the neon lighting of Times Square casts a purple hue on Donatello and an orange hue on Michelangelo.
    • Some of their weapons are changed to fit their fighting style; Leonardo wields the Power Lance in its separated form, Raphael dual-wields two smaller, sai-like versions of the Power Sword, and Michelangelo's Power Daggers are combined with his nunchaku. When the group forms the Power Blaster, they refer to the Power Lance as the Power Blades, the Power Sword as Power Sais, the Power Daggers as the Power Chucks, and the Power Axe as the Power Staff (though its appearance is unchanged).
    • While April's Ranger outfit is the same as Kimberly's, the Turtles gain golden armoring over the front and back of their torsos with a white diamond in the center. The armoring evokes the imagery of their shells and resembles Tommy's Dragon Shield, though much larger.
  • The Rangers dub themselves the Ninja Rangers in their stealth attire. Jason's outfit bears the emblem of the Tyrannosaurus Power Coin on the chest, much like the Ninja Ranger outfits.
