Synopsis[]
The penultimate issue heats up as the Mutant Rangers are in dire straits, but a familiar mentor brings new allies to turn the tide!
But the battle also rages in Dimension X, where the hero and villain roles continue to blur as they fight old foes and unfamiliar monsters.
The Mutant Rangers shouldn't celebrate too soon though, as their worst enemy arrives in a monstrous new form![1]
Plot[]
The Turtles and Shredder explore Dimensions X, which is a wasteland of ruins and debris, and they briefly take cover from a sandstorm. Though the Turtles are dubious if Shredder knows where he's going, he assures them otherwise and leads them on. The Turtles are disgusted by the state of the area and Shredder muses that Dimension X may have looked very much like Earth, before Krang conquered it and turned it into an engine of war, so they could be seeing a glimpse of their future. Michelangelo asks Shredder why he wants to take over the world, and Shredder responds by asking why the Turtles fight to protect people who despise them. Michelangelo says it's the right thing to do, but Shredder asserts they believe that eventually the people will learn to love them, while Shredder wants them to fear him; love may get you friends, but fear gets you a statue. The group finally comes upon the Technodrome and Shredder tells them he can get them inside undetected, assuming they haven't discovered the way he got out in the first place.
As the Mutant Rangers and Splinter fight in Angel Grove, the Rangers are frustrated as how some of them have adjusted to their mutant bodies better than others, but Splinter tells them to let go of what they were and embrace what they are, attempting to fight as humans will do no good since they are no longer human. Instead they must rely on their animal instincts and their forms' unique attributes, embracing their power and ferocity. The Rangers heed his advice and turn the tide, making significant progress in thinning out the enemy. At the command center, Rita angrily rebukes Bebop and Rocksteady for letting April free their hostages and leaving their forces to be decimated, but they protest they ran for a good reason, they had some special hostages to bring to her. The two present Rita with Bulk and Skull and tell her that they claim they're best friends with the Power Rangers, but Rita recognizes them and is not amused. However, she orders them interrogated on everything they know regardless. The two mutants are angry they were tricked and threaten the bullies, but Skull suggests that instead of hurting them, they could make them rich and famous, which gets their attention. Bulk explains that someone will have to document the battle, and they're in the perfect position to do it.
Rita and Krang observe the viewing globe showing the Mutant Rangers destroying their forces, and Rita concedes it was to be expected they would find a way to fight back, given how resourceful the Rangers have proven to be before. She asks if Krang wishes the rest of their forces to engage them, but Krang instead orders her to have General Traag cut off the Rangers' escape routes and Stockman block their teleportation, to ensure they don't flee before he is ready to unveil his final gambit. Rita relays his orders and meets with Casey, and explains their plans to move on to invading major cities once Krang has destroyed the Rangers, which will suffice as a show of force to make the rest of the world surrender. Casey asks about the Turtles and Rita reveals she knows about his betrayal; she knows Casey gave them the means to go to Dimension X, but they'll be walking into a trap. Casey tries to attack Rita but she calmly stops his strike by raising a hand and sends him flying back. She never trusted him and has learned from past experience to never give away power without taking precautions. But she's not done with Casey yet, and she prepares to cast a spell on him.
In Dimension X, the Turtles fend off rock troopers while Shredder and Donatello search for the power node, but find no trace of it, to Shredder's confusion. Meanwhile Michelangelo finds the broken Dimension X morphers and decide to take them. With no concrete information on the location of the power node, the group goes deeper into the fortress and Shredder suggests they split up, when they find Karai in a holding cell. She calls out to Shredder and explains they abducted her and offered to make her a Ranger if she led the Foot Clan for them, but she refused out of loyalty to Shredder. Shredder orders Donatello to release her and he obliges when she says she can take them to what they're looking for. They fight their way to the power node, but find it guarded by a force of Rita's monsters, including Goldar, Squatt, Baboo, and Finster. Though they fight hard, they are outnumbered and eventually cornered and have no escape.
Michelangelo notices the Dimension X morphers are glowing. Donatello is amazed, as the morphers don't look functional, but there can only be one explanation. The Turtles each take one of the morphers and shout "power up, power eXtreme", morphing into the Dimension X Rangers. With their new powers the Rangers easily defeat Rita's monsters, and Donatello deduces that the proximity of the power node must have reactivated the morphers. With their numbers faltering, Goldar leads Rita's other lieutenants in retreat.
On Earth in the command center, Bulk interviews Bebop and Rocksteady, addressing them as "so-to-be global overlords", and asks about their impending victory over the Rangers and how they defeated them when no one else before could. Bulk awkwardly ends the interview with a small plea for help. Outside the Mutant Rangers have finished off the last of the rock soldiers and the citizens have been evacuated, and they call Alpha to teleport them out, but there's no answer. Suddenly a building collapses and Krang calls out to them that their world is about to become extinct. The Rangers look up in horror to see a giant Krang towering over them in a new robot body built out of the Megazord.

- Jordan Gibson's Variant Covers:
- The Variant Cover C featuring the Rangers in their Mutant Forms references the style of the original Ninja Turtles cartoon from 1987, the cover also references the artwork for the TMNT VHS Hot Rodding Teenagers.
- The Variant Cover D featuring the Turtle Rangers is done in a style referencing Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger.
- The modified Megazord Krang uses as his new body does not have the Pterodactyl Zord form its chestpiece, which is instead a large golden frame with a window for Krang to pilot from. The Pterodactyl Zord is instead integrated into the Megazord on the back, granting it wings.
