Magical Project S[]

In episode 12 of Magical Project S (otherwise known as Pretty Sammy TV in Japan) which is a spin-off of Tenchi Muyo, there is a TV show called the Aozora Sentai Cool Ranger (青空戦隊クールレンジャー Aozora Sentai Kūru Renjā) where the main character of the Tenchi series, Tenchi Masaki serves as a director of the series and he meets the main character Sasami Kawai at her family's CD Store. Sasami later visits the studio and finds Tenchi in trouble due to people doubting his talent as a director, she decides to have her alter-ego Pretty Sammy guest star in an episode of the series to help him. Her archrival, Pixy Misa intervenes and summons a monster who wants Pretty Sammy to sacrifice herself as part of the original script, but Pretty Sammy stands up to them and destroys the monster and convinces Tenchi to change the script to where she would fight alongside the Cool Rangers instead.

There are also numerous references to Super Sentai's history as well, such as after her first encounter with Tenchi, Sasami learns from her parents that the show is one of Japan's legendary programs that has been on the air for the last twenty years. Her father Ginji Kawai tells her about how it started with Naisho Sentai Goninger (内緒戦隊ゴニンジャー Naisho Sentai Goninjā) and other hero shows they filmed, though her classmate Konoha later explains that it is for pre-schoolers. The Cool Rangers also have their own Giant Robo, the Cool Ranger Robo.

Later in Episode 23, Tsunami's bodyguard Overly Splendid Oryo (portrayed by Tenchi Muyo's Ryoko) arrived to help Pretty Sammy and was disguised as Cool Red.

The Mahora Sentai Baka Rangers from the live-action series

In Ken Akamatsu's Negima, there were a group of students in Class 2/3-A that always scores the lowest in their exams and were known as the Baka Rangers.

All five characters would show up in all series, However, how they are portrayed in the various media are very different. The manga just portrays the five as simple underachievers and the "Baka Rangers" name is just a nickname for the group. The versions shown in Magister Magi Negima!? portray them in 90 second shorts with Makie being the target of the series' pranks and pratfalls. The versions shown in the 5-minute Baka Ranger shorts give the illusion that this would be played straight, but never really showing any sort of big fights outside of the opening titles.

Changing the white Genome Soldier into a pink will also change his gender to female and causes his voice to become feminine. The character descriptions references character archetypes in Super Sentai.

Red Soldier "A Genome Soldier awakened to the color red by the Heart of Justice. While not outstanding in any respect, the Red Soldier definitely stands out in a crowd. Takes the initiative and is the driving force behind his team. Has a strong sense of responsibility."
Blue Soldier "A Genome Soldier awakened to the color blue by the Heart of Justice. The Blue Soldier is highly capable and level-headed, but doesn't like to display emotions. As a result, tends to remain aloof in battle. In reality, though, has more passion inside than anybody else."
Green Soldier "Genome Soldier awakened to the color green by the Heart of Justice. The Green Soldier has a warm personality and a wealth of experience, earning trust and admiration from other members of the team. Enjoys the occasional cup of strong tea."
Yellow Soldier "A Genome Soldier awakened to the color yellow by the Heart of Justice. The Yellow Soldier's cheerful personality lights up any situation. Generally perceived as mood makers, but dependable in a fight. Loves a good bowl of curry."
Black Soldier "A Genome Soldier awakened to the color black by the Heart of Justice. The Black Soldier is extremely capable and a jack-of-all-trades, but prefers solitude and is misunderstood by other soldiers."
Pink Soldier "A Genome Soldier awakened to the color pink by the Heart of Justice. A gentle demeanor and sharp senses give the Pink Soldier a keen insight into all types of problems. They support their team by being alert to what's going on around them at all times."

The "Germa 66" (pronounced "Double-6") is a family squadron that controls the Germa Kingdom. The squadron is lead by the members of the Vinsmoke royal family, from whom Sanji, one of the Straw Hat Pirates, is a disowned member of. The five Vinsmoke children were modified from birth to be powerful genetically enhanced soldiers for combat, led by their father, Vinsmoke Judge. Except for Sanji, whose' mother Sora took a drug that prevented his enhancements from awakening, they were given Raid Suits to further enhance their abilities.

Sanji received his Raid Suit during the Whole Cake Island arc, but did not use it until the Wano Country Arc when he was forced to hide his identity as "Soba Mask", a name he gave himself due to his hatred for his family's creations and by extension, the suit's official name "Stealth Black". Sanji later destroyed the suit after he discovered that the continued use of the suit had awakened his genetic enhancements, which was ultimately instrumental in him defeating Queen during the raid on Onigashima.

Banso Sentai Kizuna Five

Banso Sentai Kizuna Five

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in an Another World (戦隊レッド 異世界で冒険者になる Sentai Reddo isekai de Bōkenjā ni naru), also known as simply "Red Ranger Isekai," is a Japanese manga series featuring an in-universe Sentai team called the Banso Sentai Kizuna Five (絆創戦隊キズナファイブ Bansō Sentai Kizuna Faibu), also known as Adhesive Squadron Kizuna Five in official English adaptations and localizations.

An anime television series premiered in 2025[1] and features multiple references, homages, and tropes to the Super Sentai franchise not seen in the manga such as turning the Kizuna Five into a show that ran for 50 "episodes", with each episode being called "Turns" (TURN(ターン) Tān).

With the sole exclusion of Red, the Japanese voice cast for the rest of the Kizuna Five are all alumni actors from the Super Sentai series:

Amongst other cast members, the anime has included voice actors that have worked with Super Sentai and other Tokusatsu:

Tsuchida's Kakuranger co-star Teruaki Ogawa (Sasuke/NinjaRed) served as major consultant for the series, having done motion capture for the Kizuna Five and was responsible for casting Sentai alumni as the Kizuna Five. Ogawa also voices Daigo Shindo, Togo's adoptive father and Kiyohiro's father.

Long-time Tokusatsu lyricist Shoko Fujibayashi wrote the lyrics to the anime's opening theme song and in-universe "Kizuna Five" theme song. Akira Kushida performs the anime's insert song for the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser.

The eighth episode was written by veteran writer Toshiki Inoue and includes animated cameos from himself and several other Super Sentai members such as:

As a meta-joke, the veteran cast of the Kizuna Five had also reprised their original roles with dialogue spoken. Matsukaze is credited alongide with his Megaranger co-stars Hayato Oshiba, Atsushi Ehara, Eri Tanaka and Mami Higashiyama as “students”. Ayumi Kinoshita is also credited alongside her Dekaranger co-star Kikuchi as "passerby civilians".

An English dub of the anime also premiered in February 2025.[3] Although the voice cast does not feature any veterans from the Power Rangers franchise, a select few have had roles in English dubs of recent live-action Tokusatsu and other Tokusatsu-based anime, and grew up watching Power Rangers as a child. They are:

Off-topic, Power Rangers Wild Force-star Phillip Andrew has reacted to episodes of the series and had expressed interest in joining the dub cast.[6][7] Power Rangers Dino Charge-star Brennan Mejia also reacted to episodes of the series and stated his interest in auditioning for the dub cast but did not know how.[8]

The Freshmen and their team cannon, the Rolling Bomber

Rolling Bomber Special is a 7-minute short film featuring Shingo Katori (a member of the boy band SMAP, who were also involved in Kamen Rider GIcon-crosswiki) as a regular guy who was suddenly assaulted by the Chikyu Sentai Freshman which are a parody of the 1986 Super Sentai Choshinsei Flashman (with the word "Chikyu" derived from Chikyu Sentai Fiveman), claiming that he is the destroyer of the world despite having no idea of what they're accusing him. He unintentionally defeated them in their first encounter and since then, he received threats upon waking up (brought by a flaming arrow). A ShockerIcon-crosswiki-esque group called Zarray soon sent him a message, telling him that he's the one that they've been waiting for in order to take over the world. In the end, a shot from the Freshmen's Rolling Bomber revealed his robotic appendages with him still wondering about his real identity.

Juushouman

Juushouman

Tokusatsu GAGAGA is a 2017 weekly Tezuka Cultural Prize nominated manga series featured in Weekly Big Comic Spirits. It centers around a young 26 year old office worker named Kano Nakamura who is a "TokuOta" or Toku Otaku. She loves tokusatsu superheroes and tries to live by the principles of those heroes every day. She stays loyal to the genre by watching all the latest episodes, collecting the various toys and goes to amusement parks to watch the stage shows. However, due to the stigma that tokusatsu is a children's medium of entertainment, she is alienated by her personal fears of being seen as "weird". Nakamura's favorite show is called Juushouman, a Super Sentai-like series with a three team member group of big cat motif Rangers with two males and one female (who also shares her color and cheetah motif with her counterpart) like Gekiranger. Being a manga about tokusatsu, it is full of references to Super Sentai, from various toys to the designs of the Rangers resembling those or having motifs of past Sentai series.

A 7 episode TV adaptation premiered January 18, 2019 on NHK. Furthering the comparison to Super Sentai, Toei Studios assisted with the tokusatsu elements, with long time suit maker Rainbow making the suits.[9][10]

X-Men: The Animated Series[]
X Cameo

In the episode "The Juggernaut Returns" (aired on May 6, 1995), when the new Juggernaut tries to stop Cyclops and Wolverine from escaping after they take back the Ruby of Cyttorak (to give it to the original Juggernaut Cain Marko to restore his powers), his failure to disable the Blackbird (the X-Men's jet) leads to him falling into a TV studio. Inside, he encounters Blue and Pink Ranger characters – as well as men in monster suits. He immediately flees the studio upon seeing this, and a musical arrangement resembling the PR theme is briefly heard. Tvicon TV STORY-The Juggernaut Returns

This parody is due to the fact that like Power Rangers, the 90's X-Men series - along with other Marvel Comics properties – were also being produced by Saban around that time; and this aired during season 2 of the original show. The studio that the new Juggernaut falls into is named "Banzai Film," an obvious parody of Bandai.

The customer attempted to sell it for $150, but was turned down by Corey and Chumlee.[14]

In episode 22 of season 17, one of the helmets of the movie Piranhatrons was brought in by a customer who had worked on Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, where it was almost sold for $1,000, but was passed on due to some paint issues.[15]

In the Pokémon remakes of the first Generation III games, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, a group of local heroes named the Hoenn Rangers Coexistence Force are mentioned in six different locations in the game. Unlike most Power Rangers references, the team is of equal amounts of female and male members, where traditionally males outnumber the females.

As described by an NPC located in TV Mauville, the show had apparently ran into unfortunate timing, as when they aired, the Contest Spectaculars also began becoming popular, shoving the Hoenn Rangers aside from the limelight and airwaves. Posters and toys of the characters are found in various places, with the interactive toy boxes mentioning one of the Hoenn Rangers, whose personality traits have been used as traits for rangers in the past and future. The toys themselves have their price tags either torn or made illegible.

A face board of one of the Hoenn Rangers in a simple pose, this one being Lilycove Viridian, can fittingly found on the roof of the Lilycove Department Store, whose appearance appears to be based off of MMPR Green Ranger.

  • In Season 2, Episode 25, the Red Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (which is actually an Auto Morph Jason action figure) is the interview subject during the flu season segment. He says how the Power Rangers offer great health insurance but even a Ranger can get flu and call in sick. The scene cuts to the consequences, a Megazord with one zord arm, fighting a giant crab. The toy depicted is a Deluxe Lightspeed Megazord (from Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue). Additionally, since a single zord makes up the upper torso and arms, it's technically missing part of a zord, rather than one whole zord.
  • In Season 3, Episode 43, Randy is dressed as a Pink Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in his worst Halloween and School Day. The costume is not accurate to the show however, since there are two white circles on the chest instead of white diamonds, the costume lacks the morpher buckle, and has no diamonds around the gloves and boots.
  • In Season 5, Episode 85, Mesogog ends up working as a manager at a Wendy's fast-food restaurant after he is defeated by the Power Rangers. The sketch focuses on forgotten characters from 1990's popular culture, but Mesogog is from Power Rangers Dino Thunder, which aired in 2004 and therefore isn't part of the 1990's. However, the Rangers that are seen fighting Mesogog are from 1993's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
  • In Season 5, Episode 100, the series is spoofed along with Yogi Bear in a sketch titled Power Forest Rangers. In the sketch, Ranger Smith morphs and splits into the five Power Forest Rangers as a last resort attempt to get Yogi Bear to stop stealing picnic baskets. Yogi, in retaliation, transforms into a live-action Sentai/PR-based bear monster, and engages in a tokusatsu-style battle with the Power Forest Rangers. After a battle scene, the sketch cuts to a man in a boardroom in Japan, saying to the board members, "And that is how you bring Yogi Bear to Japan! You're welcome!" The board members disinterestedly leave, one placing a sword on the table and pushing it towards the man, implying that their message is that the man should kill himself by committing seppuku.
  • In Season 6, Episode 116, the series is spoofed along with Teletubbies in a sketch titled Mighty Tubby Power Rangers. In the sketch, the Teletubbies are recruited by Zordon to save the Earth.
  • In Season 8, Episode 152, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are in their Megazord fighting a twelve-story tall moss monster. After the monster smashes into the apartment wall of a married couple, Herb and Glynnis, they enter the moss monster's anal cavity, mistaking it for a cave. Herb makes the bad decision to ignite a lighter when he drops his flashlight. The lighter ignites a methane pocket and triggers an explosion, launching them out of the monster's anal cavity and killing them upon the impact of their landing. Herb and Glynnis' grave, seen at the end of the sketch, has a stone-carved moss monster sculpture with a flaming rear end atop it.
  • In Season 9, Episode 175, Rita Repulsa advertises "Rita's Magic Wand Natural Male Enhancer", which allows her to enlarge one's penis size with her Magic Wand.
  • In Season 10, Episode 198, a sketch sees Rita Repulsa managing to reduce the Power Rangers from brave heroes to irresponsible drunks by exposing them to alcohol, and finally defeats them by reporting them to the police for underage drinking.

Rugrats[]

The Nickelodeon cartoon series Rugrats had one episode, entitled "Mega Diaper Babies", have the babies watch a series called "Mega Hyper Heroes", which was a combination of Power Rangers (a team of teens who transform into heroes), Fantastic Four (four heroes using shapeshifting, super strength, invisibility and fire power), and Captain Planet and the Planeteers (using the rings to call up their powers and protecting the environment). When Angelica steals their figurines, the babies pretend to be their own versions of the heroes to go rescue them.

Sesame Street[]

Super Morphin Mega Monsters

Super Morphin Mega Monsters

Super Morphin Mega Monsters was a recurring Sesame Street sketch in the 1990s, spoofing the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers franchise, down to the logo & theme song.

The Mega Monsters team consisted of Elmosaurus, Zoeceratops, Telly Dactyl, & Rosita Raptor (in that configuration), who would "morph" into caped & helmeted outfits (rather than spandex and full-head helmets) when trouble arose. Their arch-enemy was the evil monster alien Zostic (parody of Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd), ruler of the planet Enormous, who would send his underlings to cause trouble on Earth in various ways.

In contrast to the fight scenes on the real Power Rangers, the Mega Monsters would run around and wave their arms in vaguely martial arts-style motions, but would only reason with others instead of attacking with punches and kicks (at least onscreen). They also do not summon a Megazord or Zords. However, they do have a "morphing" sequence (albeit without visible Morphers), and Telly using a Communicator-esque device that he only refers to as a "wrist computer". A school like Angel Grove High is implied in the 'morphing' stock footage, because Telly asks Elmo if he had studied for a math test. There is also no Command Center, and no mention of any equivalents to Zordon or Alpha 5. Additionally, rather than having a fixed team leader, each Mega Monster takes turns leading the team, an element only used rarely in Power Rangers and Super Sentai.

A still from the segments was used on the cover of the critical book Saturday Morning Censors.

The team consisted of Brain Attack (portrayed by Jason Gray), who seemed to lack some actual mind-related powers (like telekinesis) & fought using brainwaves & teleportation, Steel Blade (portrayed by Stacey Harker), who lacked actual weapons who fought using his hands which seemed to contain Qi-like energy, & Rotting Flesh (portrayed by Mallory Everton), who suffered from leprosy.

Justice Rangers It's Lunchin' Time

Studio C later made another sketch entitled "Justice Rangers: It's Lunchin' Time", which may be inspired by the 2017 reboot film.

In the sketch, the Justice Rangers face Rita Repulsa (portrayed by Mallory Everton) in the high school cafeteria, when they're suddenly joined by the lunch lady, Miss Sammich (portrayed by Stephen Meek). Miss Sammich manages to defeat Rita before suddenly going rogue. With Rita's staff in her hand, she manages to clobber the Justice Rangers to the ground. Just as she's about to finish them off, however, Miss Sammich is stopped by the school custodian (portrayed by Whitney Call), who happens to be in love with her. After the two embrace, Miss Sammich reveals her first name to the Justice Rangers—Cindy—before she & the custodian fly away.

Ultra Meteorite Fighters

In the 26th episode of the 4th season entitled "Imaginary Friend", the Baby Bears create a spacesuit-wearing bear called Silver Bear to be their imaginary friend after seeing a kid in the park watching an episode of "Ultra Meteorite Fighters" on his portable TV. He is a superhero who wants to fight crime 24 hours a day. He also tends to impart what appears to be wholesome lessons from time to time. Wanting to help, the trio gain powers of their own and transform into Power Rangers-like heroes and fight with bear-themed mecha, with the mute Ice Bear summoning his with a flute a la the Green Ranger. However, their love of the violent action show causes the Baby Bears to have their imaginations run wild and Silver Bear goes out of control, encouraging them to hurt others by imagining people are monsters they need to fight.

Eventually, Silver Bear becomes corrupted and transforms into a villain called Blackstone that the Baby Bears must defeat using their mecha. After Silver Bear fades away, the Baby Bears decide not to use their imaginations for the rest of the day. Tvicon TV STORY-Imaginary Friend

To add to the massive homage, the voice of Silver Bear is done by the late Jason David Frank, complete with some of his signature kiai. Silver Bear's turn to evil also mirrors that of Jason David Frank's role as Lord Drakkon.
