This article is about an episode in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Lions & Blizzards is the forty-fourth episode of the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Synopsis[]

The Rangers and their friends win the grand prize at the annual Oddball Games: The Noble Lion Trophy. However, Bulk and Skull steal it only for Rita to transform the trophy into the ferocious Goatan monster! Said monster can manipulate the weather and has the potential to destroy the world. Can the Rangers stop him in time?

Plot[]

The Rangers are all participating in the annual Oddball Games, and as is to be expected, their team is winning against Bulk and Skull’s (and Angela’s). For the tiebreaker, Mr. Caplan announces a tug-of-war, which the teens also win, along with the Noble Lion Trophy. Afterwards, Zack helps Angela out of the mud.

In the Moon Palace, Rita seizes upon the Trophy as the target for her next plan: transform it into the evil Goatan.

However, the Trophy disappears soon after, to everyone’s dismay. Bulk and Skull have stolen it as they are using the nearby lake to wash off the mud. As the teens go after them, they are attacked by Putties, but manage to defeat them. However, the Putties retrieve the Trophy, and Rita casts her spell on it by quoting "Scabs, weasels, moons of Cryon. Make me a monster -- half goat, half lion." Goatan is created and Bulk and Skull are scared into the lake.

Returning to the Juice Bar, Jason comments on Angela, but Zack says he’s given up on her. As he speaks, Angela walks in, and suggests they go to a matinee. Zack leaves with her as Goatan begins to create a storm. By the time it reaches tornado watch as Ernie advises everyone in the Juice Bar to get to the basement, Zordon contacts Jason, Billy, Kim and Trini, summoning them to the Command Center and debriefing them. Alpha is unable to contact Zack, who is focusing on trying to win over Angela (with limited success).

Morphing, the other Rangers face Goatan, who traps them in a cyclone. Zack finally notices his communicator watch just as Angela starts to warm up to him, and Zack reluctantly leaves. His attack forces Rita to make Goatan grow, and the Rangers summon their Zords. During the fight, the monster freezes the Megazord solid, but Zack suggests they spin to knock the ice off. It works, and the Megazord then easily disposes of Goatan.

As Rita struggles with another headache, Zordon congratulates the Rangers on their victory (and regrets that their trophy was destroyed along with the monster), and Zack remembers Angela alone in the theater and has to head back or it's "curtains" for him. He slips back inside, claiming it was a long line to get the popcorn, and Angela promptly leaves after upending her popcorn bucket on his head.

In the Juice Bar, a police officer drags in the mud-soaked Bulk and Skull asking if anybody knows them. After some teasing, the teens identify them. Discovering something (a frog) moving under his clothes, Bulk freaks out and hits the ladder where Ernie is watering a plant, promptly getting doused with water.

Errors[]

  • At the start of the episode, when Jason, and Bulk cross tires if the viewers look closely at the bottom left corner, there appears to be a crash mat used for Bulk when he trips. However in the close up of Bulk after he trips, the mat is now gone.
  • A shot of Goatan when he looked at the fallen four Rangers on the beach had trees present, despite his battle with the Rangers taking place on a rocky shore.
  • Goatan sends Jason and Billy flying in a completely different direction with a hit from his log, yet all four still landed on the same beach.
  • During a shot of the Rangers' feet when they were in the tornado, the tornado suddenly disappears.
  • Kimberly vanishes after she is shot by Goatan's arrow, and does not reappear until she goes flying with Trini from an apparent log swing.
  • When Zack arrives to help the other Rangers, he's shown with a bandage and some blood stains on his left glove due to the scene being unedited from Zyuranger.
  • When the Putties jumped up to fight Billy, one shot had them jump up forwards but the next had them jumping backwards.
  • During the Putty fight, one of Zack's grunts were cut off.
  • Whilst fighting three Putties at once, Zack split kicks and ends it only for the next shot for him to split kick again.
  • When Bulk and Skull fall in the lake it washes them clean of the mud, but when they show up at the Youth Center they are again covered with mud.
  • Alpha 5 mispronounces 'Chimera'.  It should be 'kai-MERE-uh', but he says 'shih-MARE-uh'.

    Genie's Lamp

  • The Megazord was missing its back cannons and the mammoth feet that it was supposed to be connected to while frozen.
  • The Genie's magic lamp from "Switching Places" is visible in the Command Center, sitting on the main console in front of Zordon, despite having been destroyed in that episode.
  • When Angela leaves Zack, a man in a blue collared shirt behind has his hand up. But in the close up shot, it's down before he raises it again.

Notes[]

  • The Zord battle with Goatan is the first time a Ranger other than Jason calls for the Power Sword.
  • Zack summons the Zords when Rita grows Goatan to giant size, despite the fact that Jason is present.
  • This episode marks the rare time that a monster is created from an object which is not restored after the monster's destruction.
  • This is the last episode to use footage from Zyuranger as its primary source.
  • This is the first episode to fully play the song Fight.
