Kai Ozu (小津 魁 Ozu Kai) is the Red Mage MagiRed (赤の魔法使いマジレッド Aka no Mahōtsukai Maji Reddo) of the Magirangers. He is the youngest child and son of the Ozu Family. He uses his proficiency with alchemy and his power over the element of fire to fight evil.
History[]
Magiranger[]
The youngest of the Ozu siblings, Kai is a Red Mage, a wizard who has power over the Burning Flame Element (燃える炎のエレメント Moeru Honō no Eremento). Despite being the youngest, he still follows the tradition of his fellow Red Rangers of being the team leader. He's a high school student who is good at soccer and bickers often with his older brother Tsubasa.
During the course of the series, he inherits many of Isamu's techniques, mainly his "Blazing Storm" and lives by his father's saying "Chance is something you make yourself."
His primary attack is Magi Magika Red Fire Phoenix, where his body is engulfed in flame creating a Phoenix image which burns any adversary it flies through. As Red Mage Legend MagiRed (レジェンドマジレッド Aka no Mahōtsukai Rejendo Maji Reddo), Kai's "MagiBolt" summons a torrent of fire, which is more powerful than Red Fire.
In the special "Tokusei Magiranger Special", Kai drops his MagiPhone into the Mini Garden Spring while dueling with MagiShine and the Goddess of the Mini-Spring gives him the option of getting either a Silver MagiPhone or the Gold GripPhone and so he lies to gain the Golden GripPhone and with it, the ability to become Heavenly Hero KaiShine (天空勇者カイシャイン Tenkū Yūsha Kaishain). As KaiShine, he wears MagiShine's armor, with a red neck scarf in place of MagiShine's flowing golden cape. However, he accidentally transforms himself into a duplicate of Hades Beast Spider and since he lied to get the Gold GripPhone, its magic is closed off to him. Fortunately, the Goddess of the Mini-Spring is able to use magic to restore him when he pledges to never be dishonest again and his normal MagiPhone is returned to him.
He and his siblings finally learn from their father that their mother is still alive.

At the end of the series, he becomes a sort of a liaison between the "Surface World" and Infershia. He also now dresses in his father's traditional Magitopian robe and which implies that he will carry on his father's legacy as a great warrior of magic.

In the VS movie with Dekaranger, it is shown that Kai carries a picture of Yuka Yamazaki, whom he has a crush on, in his MagiPhone. When Ban asked him that if, in ten years on the next Fantastic Happy Day, they themselves would have families of their own.

A few years later, Kai fought alongside not only his own team, but every single Sentai Ranger in existence, against the Empire of Zangyack when it attacked the Earth in the Great Legend War. After fighting against hundreds of Gomin and their Sugomin commanders, Akarenger noticed the fleet moving towards them. He gathered all the Rangers together and gave them the order to sacrifice their powers to wipe out the first invasion's armada. When the Gokaigers landed on Earth, their guide Navi told them to find "A man dressed in black". TV STORY-Ep. 2: The Worth of this Planet This man turned out to be none other than Kai, now 23 years old and calling himself "A magician who has forgotten his magic" and challenged Gokai Red and Gokai Green.

An iteration of MagiRed was selected to participate in the Chou Super Hero Taisen tournament as a member of Sentai All Red to try and win the right to become the Goriders (with MagiRed as a candidate for Ki-Rider). Personality[]
During the series, Kai is initially childish and causes trouble during battles due to his impulsive nature. As the series progresses, he matures gradually and also understands the existence of his father which he refused at first since was still a baby when his father left. But as the leader of his team despite being the youngest, he shows his leadership in troublesome situations, and never gives up as he is the bravest member of the team.
His straightforward and impulsive behavior often leads to him making mistakes. But Kai is kind at heart and very brave for his age. He hates to be babied and wants to be treated like an adult. However, his frequent bouts of impulsiveness and naivete often bar him from being treated like a mature adult. He was most upset about his mother's apparent death at the hands of Dark Magic Knight Wolzard, and swore vengeance for it, until he learned that Wolzard is his father.
In Gokaiger, he is more mature, as he calmly faces Marvelous and Don in his challenge.

Magiphoenix (マジフェニックス MajiFenikkusu): MagiRed's Majin Form. Wields the Phoenix Sword (フェニックスソード Fenikkusu Sōdo), which combines with the Mermaid Lance to form the Dragon Lancer (ドラゴンランサー Doragon Ransā), which Magiphoenix wields while riding MagiDragon (the Dragon Lancer combines with the Dragon Tail to form King Calibur).

Design[]
He wears red spandex with a short red cape, which is an outline for a large "M", which goes all the way down to his boots. His belt buckle is also in the shape of an "M". His helmet bears the symbol of the Phoenix.
Etymology[]
Kai (魁) typically means "leader", which reflects his role as the leader of the Magirangers.

The MagiRed Ranger Key (マジレッドレンジャーキー Maji Reddo Renjā Kī) is Kai Ozu's personal Ranger Key and what became of his powers after he, along with the rest of the 34 Super Sentai, sacrificed their powers to end the Great Legend War.
This key along with the majority of the Ranger Keys were collected by the Red Pirates and later used by the Gokaigers. The MagiRed Ranger Key was mainly used by Captain Marvelous (Gokai Red), who used it to fight as MagiRed. It was also used by Gai Ikari (Gokai Silver), Luka Millfy (Gokai Yellow) and Ahim de Famille (Gokai Pink) on several occasions.
- Ahim became MagiRed as part of an all-red Gokai Change when the Gokaigers traveled to the past and fought against Shitari of the Bones and his Gedoshu during the Goseigers' team-up with the Shinkengers. The Magiranger keys, along with all the Ranger Keys of the first 33 Super Sentai, were briefly taken by the Black Cross King and turned into Ranger puppets that were fought by the Gokaigers and the Goseigers. Out of all the Red keys, this is one of the most used Red Ranger keys by the female Gokaigers. The other key being GekiRed.
Magiranger Zyudenchi
The Super Sentai Zyudenchi (スーパー戦隊獣電池 Sūpā Sentai, Super Squadron Beast Batteries), alternatively named Legend Sentai Zyudenchi (レジェンド戦隊獣電池 Rejendo Sentai Jūdenchi, Legend Squadron Beast Batteries) in the toyline, are a special line of Zyudenchi that contain the likeness of the Sentai teams before Kyoryuger (represented by the main Reds). These Zyudenchi are in the same fashion as the "Legend Rider" lines of Collectible Devices in the Kamen Rider Series.
Magiranger Ressha
The Legend Sentai Ressha (レジェンド戦隊レッシャー Rejendo Sentai Ressha) are Ressha based on the mecha, specifically those belonging to the Red heroes, of the ToQgers' preceding Super Sentai teams. They can form a unique combination of ToQ-Oh reminiscent of past Sentai Robos by switching with Red Ressha. The ToQChanger toy is shown to have sounds for Legend Ressha of all 37 previous Sentai.
The Magiranger Ressha (マジレンジャーレッシャー Majirenjā Ressha) appears as an SG Ressha.
The MagirangerSoul (マジレンジャーソウル MajirenjāSōru) as yet only exists as an unused sound in the Ryusoulgers' Ryusoul Ken.[3][4]

Magiranger Ring (マジレンジャーリング Majirenjā Ringu) - A Sentai Ring based on the Magirangers. It was used by Universe Warrior MagiRed until they were eliminated at some point, with his Ring being used by Rei Gushima.

- Abilities: Ash (
灰化 Asshu) is the unique ability of the Magiranger Ring. This ability allows emotional infusion to kindle MagiRed's flames, allowing them to grow stronger in proportion to the infusion. This ability was also used on the Zenkaiger Ring, which turned Rei's Zenkaizer form into Zenkaizer Black.
- Blank Ring: When absorbed, it allows the user access to the MagiRed form.
- RyoTegaSword: Allows the user to perform Red Fire Slash.

- He is the first Ranger Legend to give his team's Greater Power in Gokaiger.
- Kai is the first Red Ranger to have a Phoenix motif, followed by Houou Soldier several years later. Both also have similarly styled visors.
- He is the first Red Ranger in an all-sibling Sentai team who is not the first-born child in the family, but instead the youngest sibling.
