Dangerous Jiro (危ないジロウ Abunai Jirō), also known as Dark Jiro (闇ジロウ Yami Jirō),[1] was the original personality of Jiro Momotani, who would later go on to assume the form of Don Torabolt (ドントラボルト Don Toraboruto), the Silver Ranger[2][3] of the Donbrothers.
History[]
Dangerous Jiro was the original personality of Jiro Momotani when the latter was sent to Earth in a peach - shaped capsule. When he was young, a group of kids invited him to play a game of Kagome Kagome with them and he won. His victory, along with the praise received from the kids, would cause him to become repressed as a friendlier Jiro Momotani was created, replacing him as the dominant personality. TV STORY-Don 29: Mourning and Murasame
Dangerous Jiro first manifested himself again when Jiro Momotani was deemed unworthy of replacing Taro as the leader of the Donbrothers. The resulting feeling of discontent reawakened his original personality, which promptly took over, attacking everyone and stealing their power for himself. Dangerous Jiro wanted to defeat Taro by force, and used the stolen power to battle him. This was short - lived, however, as a slap from Haruka Kitou snapped Jiro back to his jovial personality. Since then, Dangerous Jiro had resurfaced regularly to challenge Taro and/or attack everyone in sight, forcing the friendly Jiro to wrest control of his body back from him every time.
At the same time, Dangerous Jiro met and fought Don Murasame, empathizing with the latter's sorrow from not knowing what its purpose in the world was. Jiro and Dangerous Jiro alternated between each other to show Don Murasame what it meant to lead a meaningful existence.
When Taro was struck down by Sonoi and put into critical condition, Dangerous Jiro saved him from being executed by Murasame, bringing his unconscious body back to Kaito to be revived. Jiro's own injuries from the battle, however, kept him away from action for some time as Taro recovered and gained the new Omikoshi Phoenix.
Near the end of the series, the two Jiros had to face the fact that their childhood had been nothing but a lie, their friends in the village an illusion created by their their adoptive father, all in order to groom them into being a new guardian of the Forest of Slumber. Seeing his friendly personality in a slump due to the reveal, Dangerous Jiro proposed that they merge with each other into one. This helped Jiro come to terms with his past and return to battle with the Donbrothers.
Personality[]
Unlike his dominant regular self, he is much more cruel and hostile, attacking anyone who has ever treated him with disdain. In particular, Dangerous Jiro has developed a vendetta towards Taro Momoi due to the latter being so much better than him in everything, and has made it his goal to take down Taro and replace him as the one and only hero and leader of the Donbrothers. He often takes over Jiro's body in unexpected situations to cause trouble, which harms the latter's chances of fraternizing with the Donbrothers. Dangerous Jiro desires that he should be the only hero the world ever needs, dismissing the others as either nuisances or stepping stones.
Dangerous Jiro dislikes his other self for the latter's huge idolization of Taro, claiming that this is the reason why Jiro will never truly surpass Taro. However, he does not go so far as to overtly antagonize prime Jiro, who is quick to accept him, being able to rein him in when he gets out of control. In fact, upon seeing a despondent Jiro unable to deal with his emotional baggage, Dangerous Jiro offers to merge their personalities, agreeing to let the friendly personality be the dominant one for good.
Despite his hostility, Dangerous Jiro has an oddly-empathic side, able to sense the "sorrow" coming out of Don Murasame, refusing to fight an emotionally - compromised foe. He is also capable of civilized conversation, talking with Don Murasame with the same amount of sympathy and spirit normally found in his other self.
While aggressive and ruthless, Dangerous Jiro does show himself as an honorable person, saving Taro's life by taking him under Kaito's care so as to have the opportunity to take leadership under respectable terms. He believes that he and he alone has the right to kill the latter.

Unlike his core teammates, each form retains its belt buckle, with Don Torabolt instead continually donning the Tiguardora during each transformation.

Dangerous Jiro resolves to take down Taro and replace him by any means necessary. That said, he is willing to save Taro's life, mainly so that he can take leadership on respectable terms.

- Jiro Momotani/Don Doragoku: His split personality which Dangerous Jiro dislikes because of the latter's idolization of Taro, which he believes will only hold them back. However, he does not antagonize Jiro himself and genuinely wishes for him to be a better hero, although he will resort to unsavory means to do so.
- Don Murasame: Dangerous Jiro is rather affable to Murasame, able to sense (and converse about) the ninja's existential crisis. Murasame is the first (and so far only) person other than his alter ego that Dangerous has had an extensive conversation with, much less given his backstory to.

Behind the Scenes[]
Portrayal[]
- Dangerous Jiro is portrayed by Raizou Ishikawa (石川 雷蔵 Ishikawa Raizō), who also portrayed his original self. As Don Torabolt, his suit actor is Shigeki Ito (伊藤 茂騎 Itō Shigeki) in his third Sixth Ranger role in Super Sentai. Ito also serves as Ishikawa's body double whenever both Jiros are separated and seen in the same shot, the latter still performing the voices for both. Furthermore, when assuming the forms of the other Donbrothers, Jiro's suit portrayal depends on the character's respective Ranger suit actor.
- As Inu Brother, his suit/motion capture actor is Kazuya Okada (岡田 和也 Okada Kazuya), who also performs in-suit as Don Doragoku when both Jiros are transformed in the same shot.
- As Saru Brother, his suit actor is Yasuhiro Takeuchi (竹内 康博 Takeuchi Yasuhiro).
Design[]
- Don Torabolt's helmet is designed off of a White Tiger.
Etymology[]
- Torabolt is a portmanteau of Tora (トラ Tora, lit. Tiger) and Thunderbolt.
Notes[]
- Jiro's "hero clothes" were designed by Naoto Hiroōka.[4]
- As Don Torabolt, he shares the same name as the character from Tetsuwan Tantei Robotack.
- Jiro's forms being based on a dragon and a tiger corresponds to the motifs of the first two Sixth Rangers, DragonRanger and KibaRanger, with the torso armor being a nod to both.
- Don Torabolt is so far the only Sixth Ranger who has not gotten his own Ranger Key.
- Don Torabolt is so far the only Donbrother whose mecha color does not match his ranger color, as Don Robobolt is colored purple, which is the color of another ranger in the series.
- Don Torabolt's tiger motif, in addition to Don Doragoku's dragon, is a reference to the ancient concept of yin and yang which represents the tiger as yin (darkness) and the dragon as yang (light), fitting with how Dangerous Jiro is also named as Dark Jiro.[5]
