- "Able bodied and dragon-muscled! Don Doragoku! (And Don Torabolt!) (筋骨隆々!ドンドラゴクウ!(ドントラボルト!) Kinkotsu ryūryū! Don Doragokū!)"
- ―Roll Call
Jiro Momotani (桃谷 ジロウ Momotani Jirō) is a young man who believes himself to be a natural hero and transforms into Don Doragoku (ドンドラゴクウ Don Doragokū), the Sixth Ranger and the Gold Ranger of the Donbrothers. After merging with his original personality, he has evolved into Stable Jiro (安定のジロウ Antei no Jirō)[1] and gains the ability to switch into Don Torabolt (ドントラボルト Don Toraboruto) in battle.
Jiro is 21 years old at the time of his first appearance in the series.
History
Childhood
Twenty-one years prior, a child was sent to Earth inside a peach-shaped capsule from Ideon, that had dropped into a creek near a mountain village. He was found by a resident and raised at the village orphanage until he turned sixteen then moved out on his own. During that time, the child's original self created a split personality, which was more jovial, in order to fit in with the residents of the village. This personality eventually became the dominant one that people used to identify with Jiro Momotani, as his original self regressed back into the subconscious.
Jiro spent most of his life devoted to training himself, guided by the inner voice within him to become a hero. He was fond of a girl in the village called Rumi, often sharing his dreams with her. During a high-school trip to Tokyo, Jiro encountered Taro Momoi for the first time, and admired him as a true hero after watching him beat a gang of delinquents without raising a fist. TV STORY-Don 15: Welcome Back Taro
Unbeknownst to Jiro himself, the village where he was raised only served as a cover to hide the Juto Forest's secret portal with the policeman who had been acting as his adoptive father being the guardian of said portal. Both Jiro and the policeman himself were the only two real people who lived in the village with everyone else including Jiro's love interest, Rumi, and his local friends actually being realistic illusions that had been generated and manipulated by the policeman. It was his intention that Jiro lived out a happy life in the village, so that he could be groomed into the guardian's role to protect the Juto Forest's secret portal. TV STORY-Don 46: A Natsumi Night's Dream
Present
When Taro disappeared after being hit by Sonoi's Baron Sword, the inner voice that guided Jiro told him it was time for Jiro to become a hero that appeared before the world. Jiro quit his newspaper delivery job in the local village, said goodbye to his girlfriend Rumi and local friends, and moved to Tokyo TV STORY-Don 14: Substitute Jiro. Despite a few difficulties, he managed to get his own weapon - the Ryuko no Geki - and transform into Don Doragoku. With this newfound power, coupled with Tsuyoshi Kijino's help, he successfully saved Taro from the Noto's dimensional prison.
In spite of Jiro's heroic actions, the other Donbrothers were not enthusiastic about having him as a comrade, due to his eccentric traits. While Taro himself did not have any reservations, he only considered Jiro just another companion and not an equal. This reawakened his original personality - Dangerous Jiro - which was more competitive and vicious. Jiro often had to rein in Dangerous Jiro whenever the latter acted out of line. His frequent and abrupt switches in personality only further made the other Donbrothers wary and unaccepting of him as a member.
Over time, Jiro and his original personality developed something of a rivalry with Don Murasame. They clashed quite a few times with each other. On occasions, Murasame and Jiro shared their experience of having multiple personalities inhabiting the same body. He also returned to his hometown to visit his friends from time to time, even showing his Don Doragoku transformation to Rumi in private.
Eventually, in one of Jiro's trips back to the village, his adoptive father revealed how he had been grooming Jiro to be his replacement as the guardian of the Juto forest. Jiro also had to face the truth that his childhood memories had been nothing more than a lie created by his father using the Juto's illusions. He became overwhelmed by depression upon learning this, and was unable to fight for some time. It was at this point that Dangerous Jiro convinced him to merge their split personalities into one being, dubbed "Stable Jiro".
Jiro came back to fight with the Donbrothers, helping them defeat the Noto's inspectors. After the final battle with Sonoya and Sonona, Taro entrusted his duty as a leader to Jiro before losing his memory.
Post-Series
Following the events of the main series, Jiro had become a successful person, managing to provide the other Donbrothers with capital and assets for them to start their own businesses. His desire for total control over the team, however, had dampened their morale so much that they wished to quit being Donbrothers. Even Taro's return could not convince them otherwise, and he died fighting Kikaiki alone. When Sonoi helped Taro come back to life, Jiro was forced to relinquish command.
In the ensuing battle with Kikaiki and Kashiwa Mochi World, Jiro could not stand Taro's leadership and attempted to strike him from behind, only to be stopped by Sonoi. He was last shown heavily injured in a hospital, cursing Sonoi, afterwards. He met a nurse, who resembled Rumi in appearance, as he smiled happily.
Personality
Jiro is a hot-blooded man who has came to Tokyo from the countryside as a "substitute for Taro". He has a pure personality and often runs through the world like a child.[2] However, even though he tries his best to get others to like him, his naivety often rubs others the wrong way, as he sometimes does or say things that may come off as awkward and off-putting. Despite his prowess as Don Doragoku, Jiro's insensitivity means his team often disregard his opinion and good intentions, making it difficult for him to inspire trust in them.
Since he was young, Jiro has always wanted to be a hero, and does his best in whatever he can do to become one. Driven by an uplifting motivation, he eventually begins to idolize Taro and strives to become as good as him. However, this idolization has also at times disappointed him, whenever he is deemed not worthy enough to be Taro's replacement, leading to the release of his long suppressed original personality.
Despite the misgivings and misunderstandings arising from the actions of his "dangerous" persona, Jiro has not faltered in his quest to become a hero, and is also quick to accept his dangerous persona after being made aware of and meeting him face to face for the first time. In fact, this has only served to spur him on in his goal to surpass Taro in a positive manner.
Jiro loves his home village and the people there greatly, as he only has fond memories whenever he talks about them. He returns to visit them every once in a while, enthusiastically sharing his exploits as a hero with them. In fact, upon realizing that his childhood in the village is completely fake, Jiro becomes despondent, to the point of hallucinating his "friends" still playing with him. It takes Dangerous Jiro for him to regain his composure and make peace with his past.
A year after Taro has retired and passed the torch to Jiro, Jiro lets the power of leadership go to his head and forces everyone to follow all of his commands. He uses the inheritance that he has gained as a means of blackmailing his teammates into obedience. Jiro even kicks out Sonoi from the team for not falling in line, and ignores the enemy that he has to face and goes to strike Momoi instead. The only thing that can calm his bad behavior is the presence of Rumi or anyone who shares her appearance. TV STORY-Avataro Sentai Donbrothers vs. Zenkaiger

By using the Don Doragoku Avataro Gear Alter, Don Doragoku's soul separates from his body and transforms into the 20cm tall Don Doragoku Alter (ドンドラゴクウアルター DonDoragokū Arutā) in a manner similar to an online game's player switching to their alternate account. Once engaged, the Don Doragoku Alter can change between a humanoid form resembling Don Doragoku for active combat or an armored dragon form in defensive situations.
Although the Don Doragoku Alter is effective in combat, its usage has the side effect of leaving Don Doragoku's real body limp and vulnerable to attack.
The Don Doragoku Alter can also be used when Don Doragoku is untransformed, though that usually means that his real body tends to be left limp without his soul.

Rangers
- Donbrothers
- Taro Momoi/Don Momotaro: Jiro looks up to him, adoring his capability to face bullies during his high school youth. The most interesting part is the fact that both Taro and Jiro are members of the Don Clan, which has been brought up by Jiro to indicate they might be brothers. While adoring Taro, he dislikes how he only sees him as just another ordinary companion rather than an equal. Time after time, he and Dangerous Jiro come into conflict over how to deal with Taro, with the latter insisting that the former can never grow unless he stops always looking up to Taro.
- Shinichi Saruhara/Saru Brother: Jiro openly views Shinichi as an ally and future companion when Jiro accomplishes his dream to replace Taro. However, his bad deeds have tarnished his relationship towards Shinichi. While Jiro still wants to do his best so he can be acknowledged by Shinichi, Shinichi often pays him no mind, considering him an unreliable wild card due to both sides of his personality. Later on, Shinichi admits that Jiro isn't so bad after all and accepts him (or at least tolerates him) as a member of the team.
- Haruka Kitou/Oni Sister: Jiro openly views Haruka as an ally and future companion when Jiro accomplishes his dream to replace Taro. However, his bad deeds have tarnished his relationship towards Haruka. While Jiro still wants to do his best so he can be acknowledged by Haruka, Haruka does not share the same sentiment. However, Haruka is not open too much to how much she dislikes Jiro due to the fact that she is already tired of her bad luck. Just like Shinichi, Haruka eventually changes her mind about Jiro as part of the Donbrothers.
- Tsubasa Inuzuka/Inu Brother: Jiro mistakes Inu Brother for an actual dog once when they meet each other, which rubs Tsubasa the wrong way. The two do not interact much outside of battles.
- Tsuyoshi Kijino/Kiji Brother: Jiro openly views Tsuyoshi as an ally and future companion when Jiro accomplishes his dream to replace Taro. However, his bad deeds have tarnished his relationship towards Tsuyoshi. While Jiro still wants to do his best so he can be acknowledged by Tsuyoshi, Tsuyoshi is wary of Dangerous Jiro. He is still open to have him as an ally as long as 'Dangerous Jiro' doesn't rampage.

Behind the Scenes
Portrayal
- Jiro Momotani is portrayed by Raizou Ishikawa (石川 雷蔵 Ishikawa Raizō). As Don Doragoku, his suit actor is Shigeki Ito (伊藤 茂騎 Itō Shigeki) in his third Sixth Ranger role in Super Sentai. When Don Doragoku and Torabolt split from each other and are on-screen at the same time, his suit actor is Kazuya Okada (岡田 和也 Okada Kazuya), who is also the suit actor for Inu Brother.
Design
- Don Doragoku's helmet is designed off of a Chinese Dragon.
Etymology
- His last name translated to English means peach valley, referencing his similar origins to Taro and his brief stint and goal to surpass him as the Donbrothers' leader.
- Doragoku is a portmanteau of Dragon (ドラゴン Doragon) and Son Gokū.
Legend Sentai Devices
The Don Doragoku Ranger Key (ドンドラゴクウレンジャーキー DonDoragokū Renjā Kī) is one of Jiro's personal Ranger Keys released as part of the "Ranger Key Memorial Edition - Anniversary Heroes and Donbrothers Set". As with all Ranger Keys, should it exist, it would be able to transform one, i.e. Gokai Silver, into Don Doragoku.[4]
Notes
- Don Doragoku is themed after Son Gokū/Sun Wukong, the main character of the Chinese novel Journey to the West, which was initially planned to be the basis of the Donbrothers before Momotaro was chosen instead.[5]
- The stories of Journey to the West and Nansō Satomi Hakkenden (the theme for Jiro's fellow additional Ranger Don Murasame) had both featured in the film Saber + Zenkaiger: Superhero Senki the previous year.
- Jiro's "hero clothes" were designed by Naoto Hiroōka.[6]
- Jiro is the only member of the Donbrothers whose Ranger name has no similarity to his surname.
- Jiro is the first sixth Ranger to be a leader, albeit temporarily.
