This article is about a/an Ranger in the Power Rangers comic sub-franchise by Boom! Studios. |
Jason Lee Scott is the Red Ranger, and leader of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. He also served for a time as the team's Yellow Ranger. After his departure from the Mighty Morphin team, he became the Red Omega Ranger, leader of the Omega Rangers.
During the events of Go Go Power Rangers Jason also gained the forms (temporary) Yellow Ranger and Green Tyrannosaurus Ranger.
During the alternative canon BOOM! Studios comics Jason became the second Red Omega Ranger, leader of the Omega Rangers, later giving his powers as Red Omega Ranger to Trini Kwan.
History[]
Rise of Drakkon[]
Jason was chosen by Zordon to wield the Tyrannosaurus Power Coin to become the Red Ranger, the leader of the Power Rangers team. He is a valiant athletic young man and dedicated martial artist. He shares his martial arts knowledge with his students at Angel Grove Karate school. Jason feels uncertain about sharing his position as karate instructor with Tommy as his Sensei suggests. It is revealed that when Jason was young, he was a bully like Bulk and Skull, one time even going so far as to break a bow and arrow made by a child much younger than him. Fortunately, Jason vowed to change his ways and was determined to become a better person.
Jason is very conflicted about Tommy's presence, wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt and trust Zordon's decision to include him but alarming signs consistently surface, causing tension between Jason and Tommy. As tensions rise, the coming of the Black Dragon leads to the loss of the core fives powers when Billy and his Power Coin are abducted. The Zords are let loose by Rita over the planet, so Tommy and the unmorphed Jason travel to the Moon in the Dragonzord in an unsuccessful rescue attempt. In a last desperate effort to stop the Zord's rampage, Tommy uses his Power Coin to re-power Jason and the others as Green Rangers - Jason complete with Dragon Shield. When Trini reclaims Billy's Power Coin and Zord, and by extension their original colors, Jason maintains Tommy's Dragon Shield in the battle against Rita's forces in the alternate future.
During Zordon's absence after the Lord Drakkon arc, Jason puts immense pressure on himself to step up and lead his team. This pressure causes him to sometimes fall asleep in the Command Center after obsessively listening to hours of news reports for any trouble and scanning the Moon for any signs of activity from Rita or her monsters. While his team shows concern for Jason being so hard on himself, Jason simply shrugs it off and does his best to lead them even at the risk of his own health.
Shattered Grid[]
After Tommy's death at the hands of Lord Drakkon, Jason was given the Green Power Coin, giving him access to the Dragon Shield, Dragon Dagger, and the Dragonzord. COMIC STORY- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Boom! Studios) Issue 26 He later gave the Green Coin to Kimberly so she could lead the Megazord contingent while he commanded the ground troops. Necessary Evil[]
After the events of Shattered Grid, Jason leaves the Power Rangers, turning over leadership of the team to Tommy and his duties as the Red Ranger to Rocky DeSantos, ostensibly to join the World Teen Peace Conference in Switzerland alongside Zack and Trini. However, that is merely a cover story so that he, Zack, and Trini could head out into space under the direction of the Blue Morphin Emmissary, who bestowed upon the three humans (along with their new alien ally Kiya) the powers of the Omega Rangers. COMIC STORY- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Boom! Studios) Issue 40 Jason, described by the Blue Emissary as "dauntless and resourceful", was named the Red Omega Ranger. COMIC STORY- Go Go Power Rangers Issue 32
However, Kiya eventually betrayed the Omega Rangers believing that they were not doing what was really necessary after they almost let Drakkon destroy reality, she also released various Empowered individuals from their containment in order to fight the Rangers and during the fight Jason ends up badly injured. The Omega Rangers were later teleported out and saved by their robotic assistant XI before heading back to Earth in order to get some medical attention for Jason in the Command Center, revealing their secret to their friends in the process. While Trini and Zack went with Rocky, Adam, Aisha into space to find another empowered, Jason stays on Earth and trains with Tommy while at the same time they argue about their decision of leaving the team and going into space without telling them. COMIC STORY- Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Boom! Studios) Issue 48 Jason eventually goes back to Safehaven with the rest of the Rangers in order to stop Kiya, they eventually get help from the Ranger Slayer while the Omegas fight Kiya and the Anointed in their Zords, eventually defeating their former ally and making amends with their friends before returning to space. Alternate Timelines[]
Zeo[]
In a potential future that was separated by the Morphin Grid into its own pocket universe following the premature death of Tommy Oliver at the hands of Lord Drakkon, Jason, after leaving his old team, joined the Zeo Rangers as the Gold Zeo Ranger, fighting alongside Tommy who was now the Red Ranger. When the time came for him to leave Ranger duty again, Jason was presented with his old Power Morpher and Power Coin by the Rangers in the Power Chamber. Zordon used his powers to cosmetically restore the Morpher and Power Coin to its original appearance before the destruction of the Thunderzords, though Jason was warned that to attempt to use it would be extremely dangerous.
Before taking his leave, Jason shared a candid talk with his old friend Tommy. Little did Jason know, however, this "Tommy" was actually Lord Drakkon, who had abducted the real Tommy before killing his counterpart after making off with Adam's Zeonizer.
