Jam Session is the sixth episode of Power Rangers Dino Fury season 2, and the twenty-eighth episode overall. It features the debut of the Ptera Freeze Zord, since its flashback in Destination Dinohenge. It also marks the debut of Ptera Freeze Zord Battle Mode, Freeze Battle Armor, Santaura as Void Queen and the Snooze Dino Key.

Synopsis

A Ranger crisis forces Javi to tell a white lie and miss the Warden’s medal ceremony - but when the lie is discovered, the Warden is furious. Javi realizes his father wants the best for him, while the Warden realizes the hurt he has caused.

Plot

In Area 62, Santaura marvels at one of the Sporix Cells she secretly pulled out of the machine as Tarrick enters their room. Santaura asks Tarrick why they are being secretive around the generals and not showing their true faces. Tarrick says he wants to keep himself safe from his henchmen and he uses the Void Knight armor and gruff demeanor to show strength and gain their control. Santaura wants to use the Sporix to gain more power, but Tarrick is against it as he wants to leave Earth. Tarrick takes the Sporix and returns to the main room as Slyther finishes building the Zord Jammer. Just as Tarrick was about to place the Sporix Cell back into the machine, it flies out of his hand and rehatches into Doomsnake. Tarrick is not upset as he could use more muscle but warns Doomsnake that this is his last chance. With the Zord Jammer finished, Tarrick says it is time to go to work.

At BuzzBlast, the staff is preparing for a livestream concert of the Screaming Zombies band as Javi jams to his guitar at his desk. However, Carlos is not impressed that his son has gone to another instrument, accusing Javi of being unfocused. Carlos hands Javi a suit to wear for his medal ceremony, expecting his son to be with the family at two o clock. Afterwards, members of Screaming Zombies come to Javi, having been impressed with his music. However, their leader Blair rudely tells his bandmates to go back on stage for set up and criticizes his guitar player for his hairdo. Javi asks Blair if he always talks like that, and the latter claims it's part of his leadership role in the band. When Blair shows Javi his pancake shirt, the latter notices that he is wearing a blue Dino Fury Key as a necklace. Blair said he found it in Blackwood Valley during their last music video shooting. When Javi tries to tell him that the Rangers might need it, Blair refuses to give it up as he believes it belongs to him now.

Javi returns to Dinohenge and tells the Rangers what he saw. To confirm Javi’s findings, Zayto asks his friend if he could read his mind. Javi allows Zayto to do so, and the Red Ranger pears into his friend’s mind. Zayto confirms Javi’s discovery, explaining that Blair is in possession of the Freeze Dino Key Which can grant amazing abilities, and also activate the Ptera Freeze Zord as Solon shows the Rangers the Battle Mode on the monitor. Just then, the alarm goes off with a Sporix Beast sighting, putting the key plan on hold for now.

The Rangers teleport down to the city and confront Tarrick and his minions. Tarrick orders Slyther to start the Zord Jammer up while the others keep the Rangers busy. The Rangers morph and fight against Tarrick’s Hengemen, Doomsnake, and the evil knight. Slyther activates the Zord Jammer and sends it up into the air, where it grows giant. Zayto asks Solon for the Zords, but they do not respond due to the Zord Jammer’s waves. Tarrick is pleased that the Jammer is working and tells Zayto how he recorded every signal from their Zord fleet to his advantage. So, Zayto and Aiyon focus on destroying the Zord Jammer, but none of their attacks work as the device is protected by a forcefield. This spells trouble for the Rangers, significantly since Doomsnake could grow at any moment without warning. Fortunately, Ollie uses the Snooze Dino Key to put Doomsnake to sleep, forcing Tarrick and Slyther to take the sleeping Sporix Beast back to Area 62.

The Rangers regroup and discuss how they can take down the Zord Jammer without their Zords. Ollie brings up how Tarrick’s forces do not know the Ptera Freeze Zord exists, which means they could summon it without the fear of its signal getting jammed. However, they need the Freeze Dino Key to find the Zord, and Javi said he might need their help to convince Blair to give it to them.

An unmorphed Javi meets with Blair with a morphed Zayto and Izzy behind him. They ask Blair for the Freeze Dino Key, but the latter says he will give it to them on one condition. He needs a new guitar player for Screaming Zombies’ 2 o clock gig after his last one recently quit over his poor attitude. Blair asks Javi to perform with the band, and he will give the Rangers the key. Javi is reluctant to join Screaming Zombies as his dad is expecting him to be at the medal ceremony at the same time, but he asks Izzy to cover for him by saying he was needed for BuzzBlast work. Javi agrees to Blair’s deal and heads back to BuzzBlast to prepare for the concert. Unknown to everyone, Mucus hears everything and leaves to warn Tarrick. Once Tarrick learns about the Ptera Freeze Zord in Blackwood Valley, he orders everyone to search for it before the Rangers do. Once everyone leaves, Santaura leaves her room and activates the machine.

At two o clock, Izzy makes it to Pine Ridge Park headquarters and tells Carlos and her mother why Javi is not with her. However, Carlos is not happy with the news, and the ceremony begins. Back at BuzzBlast, the concert begins as Javi plays with the Screaming Zombies. The crowd responds positively to the band, and Javi loosens up and plays a solo. Izzy sneaks a stream of the performance on her phone after the ceremony, but Carlos catches her watching the band and sees Javi playing on the stream. Believing that his Javi blew off the awards ceremony for his music, Carlos storms off to BuzzBlast.

After the show ends, Javi gets some compliments from the Rangers as Blair makes good on the deal and hands him the Freeze Dino Key. Unfortunately, Carlos shows up and angrily scolds Javi for not attending the ceremony, Javi tries to explain to his father that he had to play to help the Rangers but Carlos rudely interrupts him and asks if he doesn't want to support him, Javi finally gets fed up with Carlos' stupid behavior and tells him that he is a big hypocrite, Carlos is surprised to hear that and Javi blames him for wanting Javi to support him and his medal when Carlos never supported him in anything, Javi leaves with the Rangers and they leave Carlos stunned after his son berates him, then Jane approaches Carlos and shows him a recording of Javi playing the guitar.

Meanwhile, the morphed Rangers arrive at the Ptera Freeze Zord’s location as the Freeze Dino Key glows, confirming they are at the right place. Javi sees a giant rock in the field, realizing that is where the Ptera Freeze Zord is resting. However, Tarrick and his minions teleport to stop the Rangers from getting the Zord. In the fight, Zayto faces off against Tarrick but finds that not even the Hyper Dino Key is enough to take down the knight. As Izzy fights Doomsnake, Javi goes to free the Ptera Freeze Zord. Javi punches the rock to chip away the casing using the Smash Battle Armor, eventually freeing the Ptera Freeze Zord. Zayto activates the Freeze Battle Armor, managing to overwhelm Tarrick with the armor’s ice abilities.

With the Ptera Freeze Zord released, Javi asks it to attack the Zord Jammer. The Zord does so and freezes it as Zayto flies to it. Doomsnake goes after Javi, but the Black Ranger takes down the Sporix Beast with a Fury Smash. Doomsnake reverts back to a Sporix Cell, and Izzy claims it for the Rangers. With the plan in ruins, Tarrick and the generals retreat. While the Rangers make a quick trip to drop off the Sporix Cell at Dinohenge, Zayto makes it to the Ptera Freeze Zord and activates it’s Battle Mode. The six Rangers regroup in the cockpit as ice forms around the city. Using the icy terrain to its advantage, the Ptera Freeze Zord Battle Mode flies above the Zord Jammer and destroys it with a Freeze Strike.

When Tarrick’s forces return to Area 62, Mucus notices that the machine is turned on. Sensing trouble, Tarrick turns off the machine and heads back to the room. To his shock, he sees Santaura in her stasis pod as the power of the Sporix mutates her into a monster. Santaura leaves her pod and calls herself Void Queen, showcasing her new power thanks to the Sporix. Tarrick can only react in horror to what Santaura has done to herself.

Back at BuzzBlast, the Rangers revel in their successful day when Javi sees Carlos arrive and goes to talk to him. Carlos tells Javier that he saw his performance with the Screaming Zombies, apologizes for his bad behavior and not accepting his taste in music and promises to accept that music is part of Javi. Javi thanks his father, but acknowledges that Carlos was right about Javi only playing music for fun, but after playing with Screaming Zombies, he wants to use his musical skills as a career. Carlos says he will support Javi on this as the two hug, Izzy happy that her stepbrother and stepfather finally made amends.
