Hokuto Dan (弾 北斗 Dan Hokuto) is a kendo master, champion motorcyclist, and inventor from Hokkaido who's dream is to create an engine that does not cause pollution. He is able to transform into DynaRed (ダイナレッド Daina Reddo), the Red Ranger and leader of the Dynamen[1].
History[]

Becoming a Dynaman[]
Hokuto Dan is going to Yumeno First-Dream Invention Center when he sees a mysterious creature with some henchmen in black outfit abduct a girl. When he is about to chase them, a woman hops into his motorcycle. With no much time, he takes the woman and chase the truck used for abducting.
Then in an empty place, Hokuto free the hostages before he and the woman is joined with two other men who had been chasing after the truck and later another one adressing himself as Ryu Hoshikawa. The five fight against the henchmen, with Hokuto using his Kendo skill.
Later the henchmen reveal themselves as Tail Soldiers, while the creature who adresses himself as Crab Evo makes his presence known. Hokuto and the others do not have much power to fight them and get thrown under a cliff.
Some times later, Hokuto arrives safely at Yumeno Invention Center. Seeking a suspicious man, he attacks the man, who is revealed to be Ryu from earlier. The other three are also make it to Yumeno Invention Center to also fulfill a request about each one's invention. The five are greeted by Kendo Robo, and later Kyutaro Yumeno with his sweet potato-powered train. Dr. Yumeno then takes them to the underground base called Dyna Station. They are explained about Tailed-People Clan Jashinka Empire before being given each one a Dyna Brace. They change into Dynamen (with Hokuto as DynaRed) and take on DyJupiter as ordered by Dr. Yumeno.
At DyJupiter, DynaRed orders DynaBlack to launch Dyna Missiles into the Jashinka base and Gizmosquitos. Later, the Dynamen greet Prince Megiddo and his army. The two sides have a fight. After the Dynamen finish the Tail Soldiers, DynaRed fights Prince Megiddo and his bodyguards until the former slashes one of the prince's tails, forcing him to retreat and counting on Crab Evo. Finally, the Dynamen finish the Evolution Beast with Super Dynamite.
As Crab Evo enlarge into Super Crab Evo, the Dynamen utilize vehicles stored in DyJupiter (with DynaRed riding Dyna Mach) and combine into Kagaku Gattai Dyna Robo for the first time. Eventually, Dyna Robo destroy the Evolution Beast for good.

Pursuing His Dream[]
While the Dynamen are fighting Rhino Evo on a volcano, Prince Megiddo interrupts the fight to seek revenge to DynaRed for slashing his tail before. Having a fight with tne prince, DynaRed struggles to encounter his Evil God Sword. Their fight is then halted by an erruption on the volcano.
In Yumeno Invention Center, Hokuto is repairing Kendo Robo while the children learn that he comes from Hokkaido with a dream to create a non-polluting racing machine strong enough to win world championship. Later on a training, Hokuto is seen training kendo. Desperate of his incapability, Ryu comes to help with his training, to the point he masters a new double sword technique.
While DynaRed is ready to face Megiddo, his training bears a fruition. DynaRed's new Dyna Swords technique, Wings of Dreams overwhelms the prince into the point of him retreating.
After the Dynamen defeat Rhino Evo, they are on Yumeno Invention Center, witnessing two boys training with Kendo Robo repaired by Hokuto. Struggling to beat the robot, Hokuto warns them that it won't hold back. TV STORY-Ep. 2: Warriors Who Chase Dreams
Zenobia Arc[]
Hokuto once solves a problem involving a girl named Midori Ogawa, whose deceased mother looks like General Zenobia. While Zenobia manifests this matter by kidnapping Midori and believing the latter's mother is still alive, Hokuto and his team succesfully ruin the plan while fighting Rainbow Chameleon. Hokuto cannot forgive Zenobia's act of manipulating such a child's emotion only to assault the Dynamen. TV STORY-Ep. 45: Mama is Zenobia?

He appeared with his fellow Red Rangers led by his Liveman successor Red Falcon with his predecessors from Akarenger to GoggleRed to his successors from Red1 to TimeRed in Gaoranger vs. Super Sentai.

The first 38 Sentai projected into Wild Tousai Shuriken King.
DynaRed appeared as part of a conference of the first 38 Reds led by Red Falcon, whom addressed the Ninningers and Zyuohgers as the greater Super Sentai pantheon intervened to save them from defeat at the hands of the titanic Gillmarda. Empowering the Combination Nin Shuriken to form Wild Tousai Shuriken King, the first 38 Super Sentai further imbued their successors with the power to perform the Zyuoh Ninnin Super Sentai Burst, destroying Gillmarda with the combined power of all 40 Super Sentai. Chou Super Hero Taisen[]
An iteration of DynaRed was selected to participate in the Chou Super Hero Taisen tournament as a member of Sentai All Red to try and win the right to become the Goriders (with DynaRed as a candidate for Ao-Rider). They faced Rider All Blue in the first round, with DynaRed engaging Kamen Rider Wizard Water Style. Finally, Sentai All Red were beaten by Rider All Blue. Super Sentai Strongest Battle[]
Hokuto joined the Super Sentai Strongest Battle as a member of Brain Team. It’s unknown whether he participated in any of the matches, but his team was eliminated either after losing the second round against the Gunman Team or the third round against the Swordsman Team.

- Hokuto Dan is portrayed by Satoshi Okita (沖田 さとし Okita Satoshi).
- As DynaRed, his suit actor was Kazuo Niibori (新堀 和男 Nībori Kazuo), who previously played GoggleRed.
- In the parody of Dynaman, he is voiced by Peter Alves.
Design[]
- DynaRed has a spandex suit, with a white main body seen in the legs with a red stripe along the sides, with the torso covered by a red "short-sleeved" shirt with a yellow stripe down the middle and along the cuffs, similar to the appearance of a baseball jersey. Both his gloves and boots are red in color; while a holster on the right side where he holds his DynaRod and a pin on his left torso with the Dynaman logo on it. His belt surrounds his waist with a buckle in the shape of the DynaBrace. His helmet is red, with a black visor rounded at the bottom and a gray mouthpiece. The top of the helmet has a black stripe rising up triangularly with a yellow logo inside: the top with a "I" symbol (the Roman Numeral "1" and the letters "DR" (which stands for "DynaRed"). The logo and the visor are separated by a raised silver "lid" similar to a baseball cap.
- DynaRed's mask was designed by Katsushi Murakami (村上 克司 Murakami Katsushi).
Etymology[]
- The given name, Hokuto (北斗) has the following meaning: 北 (Hoku or Kita) means "north", meanwhile 斗 (to) is an obsolete unit of liquid measure equal to about 18 liters. When combined, it means "Big Dipper".[3]
- The surname, dan (弾) as an affix means "projectile".[4]

The DynaRed Ranger Key (ダイナレッドレンジャーキー Daina Reddo Renjā Kī) is Hokuto Dan's personal Ranger Key and what became of his powers after he along with the rest of the 34 Super Sentai sacrificed their powers to end the Great Legend War.
This key along with the majority of the Ranger Keys were collected by the Red Pirates and later used by the Gokaigers. The DynaRed Ranger Key was mainly used by Captain Marvelous (Gokai Red), who used it to fight as DynaRed. It was also used by Joe Gibken (Gokai Blue) and Gai Ikari (Gokai Silver) on one occasion each.

Dynaman Ressha
The Legend Sentai Ressha (レジェンド戦隊レッシャー Rejendo Sentai Ressha) are Ressha based on the mecha, specifically those belonging to the Red heroes, of the ToQgers' preceding Super Sentai teams. They can form a unique combination of ToQ-Oh reminiscent of past Sentai Robos by switching with Red Ressha. The ToQChanger toy is shown to have sounds for Legend Ressha of all 37 previous Sentai.
The Dynaman Ressha (ダイナマンレッシャー Dainaman Ressha) appears as a toyline-exclusive SG Ressha.
