Hiroyuki Shimozawa (下澤 廣之 Shimozawa Hiroyuki), better known as Hiroyuki Sanada (真田 広之 Sanada Hiroyuki) is a famed Japanese actor who had a few Super Sentai roles early in his career.
Biography[]
As a child, Sanada was scouted as an model but aspired to be a action movie star. He began playing baseball and trained in karate under Sonny Chiba as a member of the Japan Action Club. Though he appeared in some shows and films, he temporarily exited from entertainment to live a normal childhood and view entertainment as an audience member. In the 80s, he returned to showbiz and began appearing in Hong Kong action films alongside famed actors Michelle Yeoh and Jackie Chan.
In the 90s, Sanada had his first English-language role with the Fool in a British stage production of King Lear. Since then, Sanada has taken roles in overseas non-Japanese produced films and dramas, such as The Last Samurai, Rush Hour 3, Lost, The Wolverine, Avengers: Endgame, and the recent Mortal Kombat film.
In 2022, Sanada was a starring member of Bullet Train alongside Brad Pitt. In 2023, he starred in John Wick: Chapter 4. In 2024, Sanada executive produced and starred as the main character in Shogun, which debuted on FX and Hulu to critical acclaim, having won multiple Emmy awards.
